Outside of Spencer Steer, Friedl has been the Reds MVP this year. I'd still take Steer due to his full season body of work and his ability to play so many positions.Just need to pass two of the three, so hopefully the Suzuki misplay snowballs on the Cubs, and the pitching injuries filet the Fish. Just keep winning Reds - it can happen.
BTW - Friedl is just amazing. 1.229 OPS in September - tops in entire MLB. He was platooning in LF/RF at the start of the season and now he has 100% earned the everyday CF job. Not even Bell can sit him now.
Also - Luke Maile - wow was I wrong about him.
FInally - nice to see Elly break out last night. As Welsh said, he has to feel like the weight of the world is off his shoulders.
Elly's first homer was on a 79 mph changeup, maybe not a big deal but I think it shows some maturity from him. 2 strikes and he took a pitch in the dirt previously, a pitch he's struck out on alot. Look it's going to be a process with him. So many were getting down on him already. He's a long lanky guy so I do think you will see him go in and out of slumps. His plate discipline has been better, but what a talent. Did you see the single by Maile to put the Reds up for good? Elly was on 2nd, that was a bullett to the left fielder, who wasn't playing deep, a two hopper and Elly beat the throw home. Even a great throw doesn't get him. It's insane his physical tools. I do feel going into 2024, he needs to be near the top of the batting order. You want him with as many at bats as possible.
