I think it's a very dangerous time for the Reds right now. This team through a quarter of the season has shown no ability to consistently produce offense. While you need an entire team effort, we've not got anywhere near the amount of production expected from Elly, McLain and Steer. If those 3 aren't leading the way for us, we'll never contend.
The pitching has been better than anticipated. Hunter Greene has been everything expected and then some. Lodolo, while has had some blips, has been solid. Singer, Abbott and Martinez has done their jobs. The bullpen was a question going into the season but overall has been really good. But this offense has been more than disappointing. Now there has been glimpses of good play. TJ Friedl has been excellent as a leadoff hitter. Jose Trevino, expected to be a solid backup catcher, all defense, little hit has played at an all star level. Santiago Espinal, career backup, has been great for the Reds. Elly hasn't been terrible, but he has stretches of strikeouts and his power has been up and down. If he's expected to be not only be good, but great, we need more from him. McLain looks lost, lots of strikeouts, not himself at all. I think Lux has been exactly what was expected.
3 with the White Sox, we're two games under .500. The division is kind of waiting around for us. Probably lucky we're not 6-7-8 games back at this point.
