2025 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Remember how the fans kept saying the Reds needed another OF bat but the FO was like “nah, let’s give Nick Martinez 26 mm.”

I’m going to say it, the medical staff ruined McClain. Which physical therapist is head jr banging? That has to be the only reason to keeps these tards around.

It was really noticeable last night that the Reds’ most dangerous looking hitters were slotted in at 7th and 8th in the lineup (Wynns and Trevino).

McLain at 2 is getting plenty of attention, but Friedl at 1 is also terrible. Both those guys should be at the bottom of the lineup right now, and arguably Friedl should’ve been benched in favor of a more talented acquisition in the offseason.

It’s eye rolling at this point to see the pitching getting wasted day after day. At least the Cubs bullpen (Pressly) had another major implosion in the 11th last night.

If the Reds don’t provide some direct resistance to the Cubs during the Cubs’ circled stretch above, the Reds could find themselves with a bunch of ground to make up by early June.

The Reds’ only notable easy stretches left on the schedule are White Sox-Guards-Pirates starting next week and Marlins-Rockies the week before the ASG.

Nothing is more Reds than blowing a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th, your 3,4,5 hitters getting blown away on 7 pitches in the top of the 10th, and immediately giving up the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
With a random call-up from AAA getting the honors to pitch the 10th.

I was busy having my heart ripped out by the Cavs, flipped to the Reds in time to see the 9th. Fun evening!

For how infrequently De La Cruz actually sees a fastball, he seems content to watch an awful lot of them go right by him down the middle of the plate.

Elly leads the team in HR / RBI / Runs / SB and probably some other things. he is third in drawing walks. If we are looking for Reds issues to complain about, his improved selectivity at the plate is way down the list.

It's really is an odd phenomenon.

It can't just be "luck" anymore, but it's also hard to pinpoint exactly why this continues to occur. All I can come up with is that it's simply a team that constantly does stupid things to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This is where the fundamentals and intangibles come into play, and they are just not improving there.
Last night is exactly why. The Reds lose that game 9/10. Low strike out rate bullpen and not enough bangers in the lineup to win close games.

He’s improving, I’m not sure I’d be satisfied in being the best hitter in this particular lineup, but I digress.

My point was that what makes a good hitter great is all the things he’s doing and then when the pitcher either screws up or challenges you by giving you a pitch to hit, hit it. He got a belt high fastball in the 10th and watched it go right by.

Once Candelario comes off the DL I’ll go back to complaining about him, but I feel like I spread out my complaints pretty evenly.

In the 80s and 90s, they played harder and were never injured even close to this much. Players rarely went on the DL.

They are babied, and very few have a strong will to win. Put simply, they don't care enough.

Makes you wonder if conditioning has even been part of Spring Training. Hayes hurt running first to home. Fraley hurt running to first. Marte hurt…somehow, nobody seems to know exactly how. I’ve heard maybe hit by a pitch in the minors weeks ago.

Yup I think we all share that concern. Except maybe @14Red - he is just happy they are playing.
Sometimes baseball, even mediocre baseball, becomes part of the rhythm of summer, especially for those of us who were around to start following the game in 1950's.

The 2025 Reds appear at best a .500 ball club. Reflecting the mediocrity of their ownership. Still the fans will follow the Reds because of Hunter Greene and ELDC and simply because of tradition.

Mediocre? No, fully fledged regards.

The inept training staff will ruin this team.
I said that in the off season, we need a new training staff not a new manager. We have the worst medical staff in all of sports. These injuries have been happening way too frequently over the last five years or so.

It’s not like a Pitcher blowing out his arm or a blow out knee from running the bases. These are soft tissue injuries, those are preventable.

Another blown 9th inning lead, another extra inning loss. The Reds go out of their way to get worse in extras. Reds start with De La Cruz on 2nd and 0 outs Braves start with Verdugo on 2nd. How much more of an advantage do you need?

The young core of this team looks like a bunch of shell shocked, PTSD guys. Worn down by injuries and front office management they know doesn’t have their back. You could bring Joe Torre in to manage this team and it wouldn’t matter.

I'm not questioning them playing hard, but how can there be so many injuries to today's athletes when they supposedly have the best training, best nutrition, best etc.... I just wonder if these guys are over trained, too muscular and fit to play a sport like baseball where endurance is key.

Not disagreeing but most other major league teams have the same amounts of injuries.

The Reds were IN POSITION to win 3 of the 4 games in this series, but because they could not hold onto leads. Both leads blown when the pitcher walks the leadoff batter in the key inning.
