2024 St. Ignatius Football

So, I went to the X vs. Iggy's game last week. I am an X grad, former player from a long, long time ago (before Iggy's popped up) and have watched a lot of high school football in particular this year all in SWO. Here are my observations about St I's. First, not much talent. By that I mean nobody really "shined" on either side of the ball. Secondly, some of the basic skills were lacking (particularly in the shotgun snaps and long snaps to the punter). And finally, the Wildcats were a little undisciplined for a Wildcat team. Not horribly undisciplined like Lakota West But surprisingly so. And honestly, X wasn't much better. Just a little more talented and maybe one or two guys on defense that showed up. And for X, they were not very disciplined either. My take about Saint Ignatius is that recently, football is not very important to the institution. Soccer is important. Hockey certainly is important. Football is not important anymore. At Ed's, football is important. Just my observations from other end of the State so take it for what it is worth.

Iggy actually has talent its just not being showcased

Hard disagree. Goul is the worst of all NEO sports writers. You like him because he's a Cleveland hack. Always discounts any other area.
While he doesn't have his finger directly on the pulse of teams outside the PD coverage area, I'm not even aware of another sports writer in the state who covers the Ohio high school sports scene like he does these days. Media coverage, especially of high schools sports, has taken a jump off a cliff in the past decade or so. Can you point us in the direction of someone more credible that bothers to put out weekly state and local rankings, game previews, etc.?

After FanVu hopefully fixes their problems with streaming, they and the ROCK network should get together for some type of weekly roundtable show that is either broadcasted or recorded and posted (preferably both).

There are plenty of great Twitter/X follows, including plenty of people directly involved with programs, but it's so hard to find all the accounts and a lot of it is just complete bias (which is expected).

Spectrum sort of got my FanVu idea going but it ended up just being their halftime and brief postgame show. Would be great if there was a weekly half hour or hour show that went around the state and covered everything. I'm sure there are guys out there willing to do it.

The Plain Dealer had a dearth of hs coverage; it went the way of local college coverage ( who even knows any scores or records from B-W, JCU, Akron, Kent, Mt. Union, etc?). Cleveland.com is all about the pro teams and the daily five articles about OSU. Then, Goul came, and suddenly we were reading about hs sports again, and not just the occasional article, but daily multiple reports, previews, and interest stories. If it weren't for Matt, we would have the same coverage as the local colleges.

No doubt Ignatius has quite a few talented kids (more than most teams), but:

  1. Most of them are young, they have more Sophs and Juniors than Seniors on the roster and the fewest Seniors by far that I’ve ever seen on an Ignatius team. There isn’t even a Senior QB on the roster at all
  2. Some position groups have limited talent and have struggled all year
  3. A bunch of the best players have been injured (Haddad, Washington, Conroy, Conrad) and the depth isn’t what it used to be
  4. They’ve gone through 3 QBs, who had combined experience of about 10 freshman games and 5 JV games. 0 returning Varsity snaps
  5. Tons of turnover at the coaching staff at all levels of the program in recent years
  6. The murderers row schedule while being young and rebuilding has left the kids looking dejected at times and made it hard to see incremental improvements
  7. The coaching staff hasn’t done a good job putting the kids in a position to be successful
If the staff gets it together and can prevent another mass exodus from the program, and the kids work hard in the weight room, there is no reason this team shouldn’t be competitive next season. The current senior group has had a ton of attrition and always struggled up front and with depth. But I think there are no more excuses after this year - the ‘26-28 classes have good talent and depth across the board.

Ignatius needs to improve dramatically in the strength and conditioning area. I see there is a posting for the job. Really hope they hire someone with real experience in those areas.

The development physically has been an issue for years now. Add it to the list.

How about a little less crap on this thread today while a legacy coach is laid to rest this AM
send a pm to the new poster footballdad, his son is not getting enough play time and he can't comp[rend english!
I knew Chuck and Nick since 1967, great men, yes they would not tolerate #27.
