2024 St. Ignatius Football

To be honest, the players and families know exactly what is wrong with the program. Just ask any of them and they will tell you in a diplomatic way. Also, talk to ignatius coaches of other programs— they have a good feel for what is wrong too. There are a lot of factors to play— and many of you are onto something with some of your statements— and totally off on other statements.

And regarding the posters who claim to have not taken shots at the players. There are 40 pages of comments that say otherwise. Urging these kids to “forfeit games” so anonymous keyboard warriors like yourselves won’t be embarrassed? Calling out some kids by name— or initials (or numbers). Come on. Don’t play innocent when in fact that’s what you have done.

What I really don’t get is whose life is so pathetic that they come on here at midnight on a Friday night to trash talk a football program they claim to care so much about?

I hope they play well next week, make the playoffs and make some noise. Not to satisfy anonymous posters, not for the coaches, not for the “program”, but for each other. These kids have had to go through some real crap the past two years and I hope their hard work pays off.
Can you illuminate us as to what the "problem with the program" is exactly? A couple of people in this thread may have pointed to specific players - and more specifically players who seem to have influential parents - but mostly the frustration has been squarely on leadership. It seems well acknowledged that the talent is pretty solid. So can you help everyone out since most don't have access to having these conversations with players & families?

The people seeing this stuff would rather be diplomatic than say something.

All this cryptic nonsense. Look at the records of the football teams. I disagree there is a lot of talent but way more then 1-9 and whatever the other two teams record is.

I have followed this board all year, if there ever was a post directed at a player it was from a "new member" and quickly panned by everyone else.

There's been plenty of frustrations about the direction of the program and rightfully so. At least it shows a lot of people still care and want the kids to be good. Ignatius should not have to be worried about making the playoffs in a new setup widely panned for "everyone" making the playoffs.

IMO, a failure to see the real problem and instead explain it away, or try to at least. The coaching staff is in over their head, which has been the prevailing sentiment on this board all year.

Yeah it's just the cryptic "Oh I know what's happening, but I'd never divulge that here". Okay then it's not necessary to comment. Everyone with eyes sees how poorly the team is coached and how the team behaves. That's all.

Sorry but you signed up for this when you aligned with St. Ignatius. It is a school with a deep history of academic rigor and success. It is a school with distinguished alumni all over the country. It is also a school with incredible athletic tradition that has experienced unparalleled success. With all of these things come high expectations and enormous pressure to continue the traditions. Many people outside of Ignatius are celebrating the fall of this program; I am not. Personally I think Northeast Ohio football is at its best when their is balance between Ignatius and Ed’s.
You replying to him is first time I saw he called me out as he is on ignore. It is what it is, the fact he has earned an ignore is all I need to recall. I know which parents are running the program, others could figure out by deduction

Leadership has allowed those parents to take control, hence some of the criticism. Not going to put their names on here.

If parents truly are running anything other than a popcorn stand then shame on the school and on those parents.

It's sad to read this. I love SI and am proud in so many ways but between the outrageous tuition, the constant expansion and reading these comments.... geezus SI, dial it back... a lot.

And one more thing, way too many kids at the school.

Chico, Nick, and Tony (Antonelli), the three pillars of Ignatius football during the glory years. Nick came back to coaching this year ( freshman quarterbacks), because he just couldn't stay away from the sport he loved. He was a proud Latin grad and taught at St. Joe's, but he placed his indelible mark on a long line of excellent Wildcat quarterbacks and on the students he taught. Rest in peace, my friend.

Coach Restifo was literally the force behind the championships - period.
Do the research look at the numbers. Coach Restifo actively went out and recruited players.
He then mentored them through the system. He spoke with them but more importantly he listened
to them. He both was able to relate and wanted to relate. He was also very honest with them,
but encouraged and motivated all. Had a strong sense of honesty and fair play. Believed
in and played by the books even if in past years the book did not favor Ohio team players.
Above all Coach Nick Restifo was a good man, a truly good man in the real sense of the word.
If he had to go, we could not have wished for a better place or time for him to begin his journey
which he was well prepared for. He started his journey with the players, the game, and the school the man truly loved. There is no doubt in my mind they were his thoughts as he slept.
Coach on my friend

Nick Restifo was a great man and those of us who had the privilege to know him as a coach and teacher were truly blessed. Very sad to hear this news. RIP Coach Restifo.

Coach Restifo was the man behind the pro style offense that seemed light years ahead of other D1 high schools in the 90s and 00s. Also responsible for a program that produced high level QB play year after year. Detractors want to say Iggy had the best talent, but they were out scheming everyone by a mile for 2 decades.

The man was highly respected in the classroom as well. Rest in peace.

2024 has been a very sad year for so many people that it has been stunning. The hits seem to just keep coming (and I don't mean anything sports outcome related)
