2024 St. Ignatius Football

BW is not stable though, they are facing massive budget cuts. The university is in trouble and has cut programs across the board. Also BW cannot advance to playoffs because of that giant juggernaut located in Alliance. JCU beats them regularly too. Ignatius could make it worthwhile financially for Hilvert. I guarantee he’d listen.
BW is going to close, it’s inevitable.

And what is that supposed to be? This is a meaningless HS football message forum- not the board room of the school.

Some of us pay and have paid for tickets for decades and will have a son in the program. Stop acting like you know what’s going on because you don’t.
One has to “know what’s going on” to feel grown men talking about kids on the internet is garbage? Nah, get over yourself. And I know more than you think, coached a few of the players and I’m good friends with a few parents. Agreed it’s not an ideal situation and the parents of CURRENT players are much more invested than many people on this site and they don’t even bitch and moan as much as people on here. And that’s even after a few bourbons. Good luck to your Alma Mater this weekend.

I think the only respectable option for the Cats to do at this point is to forfeit the playoff game. Somehow it’s less embarrassing… just voluntarily end your season after losing to this team from Canada… give Mentor a bye week. It’s more respectable. They have zero business being in a playoff spot.
Why would you forfeit to Mentor when you only lost to them 20-14 during the season?

Because you have a bunch of morons making these comments. And we lost to mentor 20-14 despite having the ball first and goal twice and coming away with zero points both times.

Put yourself in Mentor’s shoes. You have a team
Playing Parma Normandy in week 11 and they go 10-0 and draw a team they beat by 6 earlier in the year. Is CH out for the year? Pretty incredible that he is going to OSU with like 7 games under his belt junior and senior year.

BW isn't going anywhere anytime soon. All colleges have been going through budget restructuring, getting rid of unprofitable majors with low enrollments and other cost cutting. Enrollment there is up to pre-covid this year and they have a $178 million endowment. Hilvert was at Thomas Moore for years, did three years at Lasalle and then hoped right back into college at BW. To me, a college D3 gig would be a way better life balance not putting up with the BS than a HS gig where if you were not in state championship games you are probably in trouble. Money alone is not always worth it.

Amen. You do have seniors trying to finish their high school playing “careers” strong, yet you have these supposed “men for others” on here saying they should just quit. It’s shameful.
A wise man for others once said “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

If they replay Mentor again they will lose by at least 30. The regression has continued, I was dead wrong about rock bottom being last season. They are still falling in the abyss and with no bottom in sight yet.

I hope the staff after this season articulates a clear plan to the players and parents about how they’re going to put the kids in a position to be successful. There is young talent in the program, more than enough to be competitive again, but they need to keep the kids there and engaged. And that requires trust that the staff has a competent plan beyond throwing a bunch of underclassmen out to the wolves every week. Maybe this is already happening behind closed doors, but it doesn’t sound like it, and there is some real trust building that needs to happen as nothing about the on field performance has established any credibility whatsoever.

To be fair, I haven’t posted anything to single out any particular kid on the team, and I haven’t seen anyone else talk badly about the kids personally. It’s fair game on a football forum to critique the kids and coaches’ abilities. None of us are mad at the kids, I am angry with the AD and the school’s athletic department in general for allowing this to happen to the football program in the first place.

That is a failure on Fitzpatrick and Franzinger… I have zero problem calling the adults in the room out.

Well, it's called coaching and politics. What high school team uses three runningbacks, and who uses the wildcat as its primary offense?
curious, which running back would you sit? They are three very different backs.

The wildcat was run out of necessity last week. They still used what was in essence their 5th string qb on the depth chart after last season for a substantial portion of the game. There is A TON to criticize this coaching staff about. Not going to take shots at them over these items though.

And I would feel just like if I were a grad of St. Ignatius. It just stinks to see kids being crapped on, it’s unnecessary.

There is obviously a cultural problem that needs addressed.

A good friend of mine holds chains for Mentor and always talks about the different teams and how they are coached etc getting the unique perspective of the different staffs and cultures, how the kids talk, how coaches interact with each other and so on.

He was always impressed with Iggy when Kyle was there , if a kid said a swear word at any point , coming off the field , just in the background or any time , he said there were three coaches that would immediately turn around “Hey!!! What are we doing !!!”

That is not how this group operates, it’s a bit of a Wild West feel at least from the two games at Mentor last year.

Now swearing aside as it isn’t a big deal but it shows you the level of discipline that Kyle demanded of his team , this turns into success in many other areas.

NEO football is always better when Iggy is good , I really hope they get back to that.

A plan? That should have been in place starting last season.

I expect that injuries have derailed whatever the coaches thought would work and now there aren’t many options.

Instead Ignatius is basically playing their JV against Varsity teams- something that looks like it will happen again next season.

Publicly calling out individual high school kids for their performance in a children’s game while posting under a pseudonym is craven behavior. I haven’t seen it here recently but it’s happened in the past.

I agree 100% ..

On a side note, even though I had to google it (public education ) great use of the word craven here ! This is why I like the Iggy thread , I learn stuff and thangs.

Start with a sane schedule. Put the kids in a position to be successful.
