2024 Elder Football

"While Doug’s success speaks for itself (two state championships), I have watched him coach his boys, develop young men of character, and sustain a culture that far exceeds the playing field. A wonderful offensive tactician, Doug does things the right way and has never cheated the system. Elder High School has been blessed to have him for the past 25-plus years."

Why is this topic always propositioned as one way or the other? Were the state title teams filled with low character players? No.

And Ramsey is without a doubt the best coach in Elder history. It would just be nice if Elder could give him a little more talent to work with in the end of his career. He could very easily have 3 more state titles if Spencer Ware & Corey Kiner had come to Elder.

Grit is definitely not overrated. Grit wins games, and a lot of them. If it wasn't for grit, the teams with the most talent would always win every game, and we'd might as well crown the team with the most college recruits as state champ each year. But that's not how it goes.

Grit matters more than talent. It allows you yo punch well above your weight class. Grit matters almost as mug as coaching does. You will see grit in action week one against a Withrow team that most likely has more talent on paper, definitely more speed, but Withrow's lack of grit will work in Elder's favor. I don't expect the game to be all that close.
Also, throw the WR from Withrow committed to UK on Elder and that transforms their offense. IDGAF if he’s a bad perimeter blocker

Forget the Panther, meet Elder’s new mascot, Gritty.

I wish that were true but somehow I don’t believe Elderlover69 is credible. Was the username PurplePanther420 taken?

As far as Uran being injury prone I wouldn't call playing week one with Mono and then it lingering all year being injury prone. Its also not rocket science to understand the best players need to play a little both ways especially when the weather breaks and cools down. Maddox getting a short yardage carry, Brayden rushing the passer in a big passing down, Uran running a reverse, taking the top off a zone or returning a punt. The top programs allow their best players to help out on both sides and I believe Coach Ramsey understands that. 100% one way and 25% on the other side of the ball is not out of the questions for Div1 athletes. Scheme is important but the players are the most important aspect. My prediction is the Panthers play better than many of the expectations here and will have a great season.
No one said injury prone.. what was said is missed 5 games. Uran is injured now i was told. Some reps both ways yes.. full time both isn’t smart. No in gmc or ecc.. sure

It’s cringe af. Expand the talent pool, grit is overrated. That’s the lamest bs description in all of sports.
Winton woods had a “d1 team last yr. Both tackles, qb, 2wr, entire defense…. They lost 4 games! Milford, Anderson, withrow, & Lebanon! Lesser schedule
We lost 5 games.. 2 to state champs and national top 10 team.
With 5 d1 offer players.

Talent vs less comp produced 1 more win. It’s not just about talent.

Not just talent, but mostly talent.

Let uran be great on d. Ramsey Knows usage for guys what’s good.
Brass didn’t play varsity junior yr and has to go down as one of the best qb’s.. elder players.. ever. He is talented.. but.. that kid had grit.. tough.. whatever you want to call it!

Not just talent, but mostly talent.
Umm.. come on! You talking about ghey… you are talking out of the side of your mouth! No disrespect.. this is social media.. people get brave on these things.. i don’t mean to disrespect you. It’s the exact opposite of what you always post. Trust 37 yrs of coaching.. Payton Ramsey who could be playing on Sundays… other coaches who have state championships and are great coaches.. mostly elder grades…elders kids.. give this team a chance to complain about them. I heard Re came back. What makes elder great is the people and community but what makes them a top 20 team in this decade is the carry your pale, blue collar, punch you in the mouth type kids that’s been elder since I’ve been on west side the last 20 yrs.

Everyone on here knows who I am. And I’m not trying to disrespect anyone’s abilities. I’ve said many times, I wasn’t even good enough to start in grade school, much less play at Elder. I sucked, I was a horrible athlete.

That said, the program needs a little bit (not much more) talent. The lunch pale, blue collar ethos is kinda meaningless when it costs what 12k/year and you have an advanced weight room facility.

On the college level when you hear blue collar, undersized, gritty, etc, you think of programs like Iowa, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Kansas St. Programs that generally have a solid winning tradition but never real threats to win a Title. That’s not where you want to be if you’re Elder.

That is still last years roster with updating kids grade level. A lot of kids graduated. New kids added. Elder has not published this years rosters yet.

I’ll be at the scrimmage tonight. Not expecting to see much on Offense, Elder always keeps it very vanilla, I want to see how the Lines perform.

This RB duo will not work. They need to really explore other options

OL and Offense as a whole look bad, they’re getting their a** kicked. Estep definitely looks like the better QB

outside of the Elder front 7, not much good to report on. The Offense has just been plain bad. They have big problems on Offense.

A fumble nearly gets returned for a TD. The Defense scored more points than the Offense in this scrimmage.

Respectfully, this is a 4-5 win team. The Offense is going to struggle all yr. They simply have no run game. The RBs are not big enough to break tackles.

Tonight was very ugly offensively. We do not have a Brass to save it. Estep will not last the season running quarterback draws unless this was a State Champion defense that West brought.

They have to either bring up Craig or rotate Arnold & Uran. This is an issue that cannot be ignored, bc it will cripple this team,

I also was impressed with Willig. Our small running backs were tossed around like rag dolls.
Did he get any carries? I would’ve thought I’d notice him. Regardless, if they meet West in the playoffs again, it will be a repeat of the last 2 yrs. The D will kind of keep them in the game while the Offense sputters bc they don’t have the playmakers. Realistically, Elder is 2 yrs away from being a team that could compete for R4.
