U20 Worlds

Not sure how Kueter got the 5th point. Score changed to 3-3 Only two for a TD. Then Keueter was exposed. Brands in the corner protesting the call. I think they blew it. No idea how they don't call the TD and back exposure. Then if Kueter was exposed, he gained control again and should have gotten a reversal. He ends up 2 + 1. That may have been the reversal point? I need to see the replay later.

Start of 2nd. Kueter with TD and back exposure. No points awarded?? Now what?

Finally after consultation - they award 4. 7-3

Another Back exposure by Kueter 9-3

Obvious head butt by Kueter going for TD. Mongolian went down and still on the mat. No penalty. Actually was top of Kueter's head hitting bottom of the jaw as he drove for the TD. No points

Kueter in on legs and gets a turn. 11-3

I think there may have been another turn in there. Not sure.

May be over? Nope. Mongolian again seeking medical attention. Now they show it 15-3 So it is over. Now showing 13-3 I think that is the right score. Should be over. Now consulting some more.

It is over 13-3 Kueter into finals vs. Iranian I assume. That match was already over.

Medal matches from yesterday about to start up. Lilledahl will go for gold at 57kg. vs. Pavlov of AIN (who is rumored to be in the locker room making his dog drool for food...)

Lilledahl vs. Pavlov. Lilledahl up 2-1 with all scoring on passivity clock. :38 left

Gold for Lilledahl with 2-1 no action match. No matter. Gold is Gold. He showed more action than Pavlov who couldn't work any conditioned reflexes for a score. Still trying to make that work....

Bassett out for his bronze medal match vs. Beshidze of Georgia. Looks like this will be a tough one as well.

Bassett for TD and 2-0 lead. He looks like he wants an all out brawl in this one.

Freaking ref yelling at Bassett for using his knee to keep head down on mat. Another TD 4-0

Bassett just looks pissed because of his showing against the Japanese wrestler.

Works another TD 6-0

Followed by 2 turns Over 10-0 with :40 left in first. Must have some Brands blood in him. That was a vicious attack

Duke will be out on Mat A for his bronze medal match. Gold and Bronze so far. Still possible to get 10 medals.

Hosokowa is going against the Iranian. Hosokowa beat Bassett 10-0 yesterday. The way Bassett looked on the mat, wouldn't be surprised if he challenges Hosokowa to a re-match in the warm-up area following his gold medal match.

Iranian with 2 turns, a TD and a push out to take a 7-2 lead over Hosokawa. 1:27 left

Looked like a slipped throw by Hosokawa. Allowed it to be awarded a TD by Iraninan. 9-2 Being challenged Don't see anyway he comes back from the deficit even if not awarded.

They give the TD and lost challenge 10-2

And it ends that way. Gold to the Iranian. Bassett has to be wondering what happened yesterday. Just an awful showing. Don't think Hosokawa is that much better, but he sure knew how to work the gut wrench and Bassett didn't know how to stop it.

Duke next up to keep the string of medals going. Vs. Bolatuly of Kazakhstan for bronze

Star Spangled Banner playing for Lilledahl as he wears the gold on the top step. And they cut it off before the end of the anthem....left off the "over the land of the free and home of the brave".

Duke gives up a 4 pointer just 10 seconds in Down 4-0 He gets in on the legs for a TD. No turn. 4-2

Seems to have just woke up from a nap.

Another ankle pick for a TD 4-4. Still down on criteria off the 4-pointer

Push out an Duke now up 5-4

Wow - quick TD followed by a quick turn 9-4 Duke up.

And another TD 11-4 And a turn 13-4

Then gives up a reversal 13-5

And gives up a TD 13-7. Gave that up just before the break. Kind of lucky it wasn't another 4 pointer. Was able to land face down on the mat

Gets in on legs again. No TD but gets a shove out. 14-7

2:03 left

In on legs again. Gets a 4 pointer to end it 18-7 That may get challenged. Nope

Duke with the bronze. Medal #3 today with 4 more guaranteed with Ryder in finals today and 3 more in finals tomorrow. (Lockett, Kueter, Barr). that is 7 total with Rademacher for bronze today with Blaze and Mirsasola with shots at bronze tomorrow.

Duke sure is fun to watch. Works hard.

So the youngest Junior World team ever and all 10 will wrestle for a medal with 5 in the finals. Pretty pretty good.

If he can make the weight, good luck to a lot of guys at 125lbs this year having to wrestle Luke

Congrats to LJ Araujo, who won bronze for Brazil at 79kg. He's an incoming freshman at Nebraska, top 20 guy in his 2024 class and only lost to Ryder at U20s. Another name to watch out for wrestling for the Cornhuskers.

Ryder collects first passivity warning

Then they put Ryder on clock after he just got through with working a TD. Called it less than 5 seconds after they start again from the center.

1-0 behind.

And a warning to Begenjov of TRKM

1ST PERIOD ends with Ryder down 1-0. Needs to start at center of mat. He's conceding it on every restart

Ryder gets pushed out 2-0 Will also delay any passivity call.

Ryder now staying in center.

He trips trying for TD - and gives up 2 as he goes off the mat?? down 4-0

Lost track of prior warning to Trkm? Gave another warning but not put on clock.

Ryder with flurry of action, but can't score. Loses 4-0 1 point scored by Trkmenistan on push out. Others for passivity clock and Ryder tripping and falling OB that got awarded as 2 points. The sad thing is that Ryder provided most of the action, yet the ref never put Begenjov on the clock. He was also given 2 passivity warnings and not put on clock.

Need Rademacher to capture the bronze and keep the streak going. Gets Karavanos of Greece. He lost 12-1 to the Kazakstani that beat Rademacher 9-1. That match only last 3:53 before the tech fall came. Advantage seemingly to Rademacher.

Rademacher with TD 2-0

Followed by a push out 3-0

Another TD 5-0 with 4:20 left

And another TD 7-0 with 3:57 left.

Another push out 8-0 with 3:34 left

TD at 3:22 remaining ends it at 10-0

Bronze and the streak still alive

Marcus Blaze will go down as the best wrestler OH has ever produced IMO. No offense to Stieber, Fried, or Taylor (who arguably OH didn’t “produce”). Blaze is just on a different level. For all the Bassett talk, who by the way is older, you won’t see Blaze manhandled like he was yesterday.Shrug all you want kid - you earned it!
This is an interesting one. I believe the Blaze boys grew up in Clinton, Michigan, then moved to Perrysburg several years back. But, both parents are originally from Ohio. Not 100% certain on that. Just what I have read a few years back when Joey first started wrestling for Perrysburg. Don't know when they moved to P'burg, but knew of them wrestling in youth programs in Michigan.

Flo announces US Mens team have wrapped up the team title heading into action this morning (9/8/24). I don't think that is actually correct.

According to Flowrestling, the US men's team has 170 points heading into Sunday action with Iran at 135 and Japan with 75. According to Flo, Iran has a max score of 165 points (I show max of 170*). Russia, which does not earn team points is shown with 105 points and a max of 160. Japan has only captured points at 4 weight classes and has max score of 90

* Iran has a wrestler at 92kg that shows no points scored in standings, but is in repechage. If he wins 2 matches to claim a bronze, he would earn 15 points for the bronze. In addition there are 4 others still active that can pick up 5 points each. So 135 + 15 + 20 = 170

So if Iran wins all their matches and the US wins none - they will end up tied at 170 according to my calculations. Chickens need to hatch...

Blaze gets a TD in 1st period. 2-0 at the break. Already with a passivity warning.

Ref signaled to judges for passivity again. Denied

Now the Turk is on the clock. Coming hard at Blaze to score. Nothing with :08

And the clock expires 3-0 Blaze with the lead 1:13 left

Team USA has now locked up the team championship.
Guaranteed 9 medals. Mirasola will need to win bronze for all 10 to medal. All 10 also made it to the semis - so they had no repechage matches to deal with.
