U20 Worlds

All 10 of our guys will be wrestling for a medal, I believe a first for the U20 men. Semis in about 1/2 hour, with medal matches from yesterday after that!

Blaze gives up a step out. And another. and another down 3-0 Getting attacked by a bulldog in Ono.

Now a passivity warning to Blaze, No solution to him yet.

Now Blaze on the clock. This is obviously a tough match for him

Man this dude Ono is really good. Amazing movement, another Japanese lightweight stud

Clock expires with no score and it is 6-0 Ono at the break.

Those thick powerful legs of Ono is allowing him to drive Blaze back off the tie ups. Now Blaze keeping him at distance

And then another step out 7-0

Huge difference in strength between the two. Blaze hasn't come close to scoring :49 left still 7-0

Trying to pick an ankle nothing doing. Finally gets an ankle pick for a TD as the match ends 7-2 final

Will be a good experience for him. No question Blaze will be going up in weight to match his height. That is when he will need to add more muscle to compete at the same level in the mid weights. I see him as being 157 (like his brother) when he gets to college. Will likely wrestle around 138 to 142 this upcoming season. His brother was at 160 (I think) in his senior season. He may get a bit of the David Taylor lesson when he went to PSU his freshman year and got beat up pretty good (his words) in the wrestling room at 157.

Lockett vs. Novruzov of Azerbijhan on Mat A. Another shorter and more powerful looking wrestler. Passivity warning to AZE wrestler. No score at 1:15 into match. Now AZE goes on the clock.

Clock expires 1-0 Lockett

And Lockett put on the clock with :42 left in the period. Nope - just a warning. Saw the signal from the side and thought it would be the clock even though I did not see him warned before.

And it is 1-0 at the break. Lockett will likely see the clock early in the 2nd. Which puts him at a disadvantage. Either way, he has to score points

They might call this fleeing- I've seen it a couple times this year. Just don't be surprised!

Edit- Nevermind! Dee Lockett baby, U20 finals at 18 years old

Lockett gets a leg. No TD but gets a push out 2-0

2:16 left

See the sideline getting ready to signal the clock. And they do. lockett on clock with 1:10 left.

Clock expires with no scoring. 2-1

:33 left now

AZE not taking any shots.

AZE was trying his best for a push out. Lockett was warned for back up/not engaging. No point awarded. Of course it is now being challenged

Don't see anyway that is awarded a point.

Lockett will win. Final will be 3-1 On to finals

I thought Lockett did a good job of fighting it off then spinning to the side to stay facing the AZE wrestler.

Barr vs. Tagan of Turkey also on Mat A underway.

Barr gets a back exposure 2-0 Could have been take down, but I think he exposed the back first.

And another 4-0

Gets another back exposure 6-0

Turk wrestler gets a passivity warning. Barr in for a TD 8-0

Gets a turn and its over 10-0 with :10 left in 1st period

Another into the finals. And 2 more semis to go.

I have records going back to 2003, and the US has not won 86kg at U20s in that time. Will be a challenge with Kadiev, but Barr looks amazing today.

Mirasola to be on Mat B

Iranian now down 8-2 with 1:35 left. Final is 12-2 to AIN

Iranian wins at 62 and will face Ono.

Lockett will face Iranian in finals

Mirasola set to go. Saliev of Bulgaria. Short thick build on Saliev.

Ref signaling passivity on Mirasola. Just pick one and call it. Saliev has injured hand it appears. Maybe wrist. Back to wrestling.

And Mirasola goes on the clock. Almost gets a leg. Action picking up

Clock expires. Down 1-0

Ref just went hard after Saliev for locking fingers and turning the hands. Warning

Now Saliev warned for passivity/ Period going to end at 1-0

Watching the corners and Saliev looks to be much more tired. Slow out to the mat.

Sure did, getting his butt kicked by Starocci everyday has payed off in spades it seems. Hoping he can be Davison, Michigan’s 4th or 5th NCAA champ by the time he’s done.

Mirasola gives up a TD. Down 3-0 Now Saliev suddenly has wrist problems again. More time for the doctor out on the mat. This crap has to stop.

Saliev on the clock. Still keeps locking up fingers. Warning meant nothing

Clock expires and it is 3-1

Mirasola with a TD. Looked like Mirasola butted heads on the TD. No call. Incidental. Saliev with blood running out his nose. Blood time

3-3 with 0:57 left. Mirasola now showing up 4-3 Must have got a push out??

Bulgarian picking up the pace. Mirasola is going to have an opportunity to score. can't retreat.

Gets a warning. And now they award a point. Saliev wins on criteria. 4-4 Mirasola should have known better than to back up and head to the center of the mat. Now being challenged. Don't know how this will go.

This might be the first time I've ever seen a no-call go in the way of US! At any age level. If they can put track shoes on, we should be able to too 🤣🤣. We'll done cowboy.
And they get Mirasola on it. They really are calling that this year, you can't break holds and circle back middle for the last 20 seconds without getting a stall call.

Yeah, I was afraid of that, but didn't know how they would rule on the circling back to the center. Guy does nothing for 5:30 of the match, then goes on the offensive just to get that call. Mirasola could have easily made it work to his advantage with the guy coming at him with reckless abandon.

It sucks, but you gotta be winning by more than 1. Get some takedowns, get some stepouts, have a four point lead and they can't do that. Offense>pace in freestyle

Kueter with a chance to get 5 in the finals. He;s going to have to get in on the legs and not let him cover on top.

Kueter given passivity warning. Now going on clock 4:14 left

Kueter gets a leg up in the air and fashions a big feet to back move. 5-1 I think Kueter got his back exposed. Challenge going on
