The start of the girls basketball season is starting. With all of the new divisions there are some favorable paths for some of these Northwest Ohio teams. Post some predictions, news, insights, etc. here. Looks to be an exciting season coming up.

Was anybody able to make it out to this event?

How about small school girls hoops?

NBC - Genoa and Oak Harbor should be at the top. Genoa has a bunch of good athletes back. OH returns pretty much everyone too

NWOAL - Bryan and Liberty Center will have a big fall off - very senior laden last year. Patrick Henry may have an opening this year to finish 1st. Archbold should be better

SBC River - Gibsonburg and Elly Everts should dominate. Calvert and Lakota will be competitive.

TAAC - Ugh. Toledo Christian by default?

Fostoria should be above competitive in the NBC. Middlebrooks, Johnson, and Poole are all back.

As for the SBC River, I'd be shocked if Gibsonburg "dominates." They have a string of injuries and had a couple girls graduate. Calvert returns everyone from a district title team.

Gibsonburg beat Calvert in both games last year by almost 40 combined points. Until that changes, I got the Golden Bears and a girl who will likely average 25+ppg a night. Dominate might be an extreme, but Ideal Bakery and Kate & Al's is still going to be a good place to be this winter.

Fair. But, Calvert turned it on late with arguably the second-best player in the league with the entire cast around her returning while Evarts can't say the same.

Don't get me wrong, Elly is good and the best player in the league, but I think the team Calvert has outweighs that in the end.

How is Lakota supposed to be this year? Head they dominated Eastwood the other night

Regardless of division Genoa is one of the top teams in the are. Play a great brand of basketball as well.

NBC
Genoa is tough, the Sisters are legit, but the rest of the team is quite banged up after they played maybe too much basketball this off season.
Oak Harbor is right there with them if not better. Year 2 with Coach Heller, the system is installed and I expect them to play 3 close games with Genoa again this year including meeting in the post season.
Fostoria is ok... Middlebrooks looks a little bit more like herself, however, we will see if she can get to the basket like she used to pre ACL. Johnson is a rebounding machine, but she just hasn't been able to finish. They also have another new coach who wont be able to keep up with Genoa/Oak Harbor.
Maumee- This is their chance. A lot of experience. One more run with Lucy Porter. They just arent as physical/deep as everyone above.

Major drop after that. Eastwood graduated a ton. Rossford isn't very deep past Williams, Lake isn't deep, and Otsego doesn't have any guards.

TAAC- Not Toledo Christian by default! Reghan Markley is going to have a breakout year. I'm talking 25 points plus per game. Jenna Reed is very talented and will get 15ish. However, Ottawa Hills is loaded! To go along with Berenzweig, and Snyder, they have the top 2 new comers to the league by far. They add the younger Van Slooten sister who transfered in from Notre Dame along with a top 5 freshmen in the area, Skiver. If they can get any play out of the PG slot, they should win the league easily. ..
Ottawa Hills will be the champs.

Tiffin Calvert is not going to be close to Gibsonburg... even with the graduations... Rishty is talented, but she's not carrying the rest of that squad past Elly Evarts.

NLL Cardinal- might be the worst pool of talent for a D1-D3 league in the State. Some of the worst teams in each of the schools history.

1/2 Napoleon and Fremont will battle it out. Napoleon is very long, Kruse, Cisero are a nice duo. Ross has Wolfe, Heidelburg, and Tucker is a good rebounder. They have a decent Soph big returning, that played well and also plays out of control at times. Cant remember her name.

3. Clay has a first time coach, only real basketball player they have is Quisno. Nice little PG. Not deep enough to play with anyone above and will often play down to the competition below this season based on volatility.

Everyone below this line is really bad.. Wouldn't beat anyone in the Buckeye Divisions JV team..

4. Southview. Dorn returns, shes a nice big, but other than that they had a very poor turnout this year. This team misses the previous lady coach for sure.

5. Bowling Green is very bad. Can't dribble, don't have size. It's gonna be ugly.

6. Springfield- Clifton did them wrong, absolutely bare cupboards. They would compete with Scott to finish last in the City league.

NLL Buckeye-
1 Anthony Wayne- Not much needs to be said. I hope they can make a run at the end of the year.
2 NV is really talented. NV gets Kral back I believe to go with the already loaded lineup of Biggs, Claudius, Cannon, and Shamy. They should be loaded.

3 Perrysburg's returns Kilbride and 3 solid starters. They lack a true post player. It also appears not only did they lose Thames , but I’m not seeing Ayla Turk on the roster for this year. That could spell trouble. They will battle with Whitmer for 3rd.

4 Whitmer- Deilly and Finch are tough. I havent got to see them this year yet during scrimmage season to see what else they have.

5 Findlay- They lost a lot, however, they have some exciting Freshmen coming in. They may be slightly down this year, but I could see them jumping to number 1 by next year with whats graduating in the league.

On the contrary this side of the NLL is one of the best around. Aside from Anthony Wayne, I could see 2-5 having barn burners every night.

NWOAL -
1. Patrick Henry is the favorite with Crossman and Christman back.
2. Archbold's lock left defense gives everyone fits. They are one of the best defensive teams around. They were young, bringing back Gericke and Forward.
3. Evergreen - Not many teams move without the basketball as well as they do. They have Ricker and plenty of shooters.
4-6 Wauseon, Liberty Center/ Bryan Not sure how this is all going to shake out. Saw Bryan in the summer, I thought they would reload with the younger Thiel, but they didn't look good.
7 Delta- Delta had a really good season last year. Their coach does a great job. I think they lost a little bit much here to be competitive.

8 Swanton- Going to be rough.

I got

NBC
Champion - Genoa

Their brand of basketball is good and the really good Sophmore sister is actually shooting it decently. I don’t see them losing a game.

TAAC
Champion - Toledo Christian

TCC will have the best player on the court and a couple decent role players so I am taking them. Ottawa Hills has some really good pieces that are unproven but could easily make them champions. Van Slooten has a chance to show case her talents. The tall freshman has a chance to be special. OH fans should be excited.

NLL Cardinal
Champion - Napoleon

I just don’t want to bet against Napoleon they have a solid core. Fremont is going to really miss the Toledo commit. A surprise team will be Clay. Don’t be surprised if they actually take a game from one of the top two. They’ve got two good guards.

NLL Buckeye
Champion - Anthony Wayne. They probably will not lose a game in the league. That out of conference schedule will show if they are really state contenders. Start and them will battle to get to states assuming that they will be in the same region.

If Whitmer can really utilize its guards well they have a chance being in the top 3 but not sure that’s going to happen.

City League
Champion - It’s Starts league to lose.

Rogers will have something to say about that but I don’t think they’ll have much to say. Start is loaded if everyone is healthy. Bowsher should be decent.

NWOAL
I know nothing.

CHSL
Champion - Easily FGR

The two Toledo teams will compete. Notre Dame loaded back up. Thames will be good for them as well as sims. The freshman point guard is going to make an immediate impact. They will not have enough to beat FGR but will fight for 2-4 in that league.

Central lost too much. Is really going to struggle.

St. Ursula…..

Highly disagree on TC having good role players. Reed didn’t play last night?? And it went as I expected. Not sure what’s wrong but if she’s out any length of time Markley is going to face constant double teams.

Also think Rogers will be more competitive with Start than you think.

I do love Coach Blacks program at Genoa. The Sophomore sis is a tough kid for sure but they have two starters on the shelf. It’s not gonna be easy get by Oak Harbor.

I don't know anything about either team but that Lake Swanton score jumped out to me. Davey1 has Swanton winning by 9 last year. Have their fortunes really reversed by 50 points?

Lake has a good guard in Wiley a decent shooter in Tobias and an absolute difference maker on both ends inside in Savannah Little. After that not much, but Swanton lost Peighton Manning and Crowe. Yeager and Finfera were nice role players I just don’t see where they get much scoring tonight. Couple that with Coach Nowak is a great scouter and game planner whereas Swantons staff not so much. Always could be wrong but this is my best guess not having seen either team yet this year.

Early returns- I look better on Ottawa Hills vs TC. and the Oak harbor Genoa argument, you didn't' make it a week without Genoa losing a game. I'll give you Rogers though. Start looks infinitely better than them so far.
Surprised by that Genoa score. I think they'll get better as year goes on. Looks like they let a late lead evaporate.

Rest of NBC isn't very good. Some average or slightly above average teams

Watched Genoa / Woodmore game. Genoa had no direction other than to try to create chaos and got burned all night by it. They looked like a bunch of girls thrown together to play without any coaching or practice time together beforehand.

If somebody asked me about that Genoa Woodmore game I would’ve said Genoa wins but it’d be a good game. Woodmore is not a speed bump I think they are pretty good. Watched them play twice last year and they were tough.

Ottawa Hills I agree is the favorite in the conference. They have good size too which I wasn’t familiar with.

I’m curious how Rogers develops as the season goes on. Maybe they catch up.

So we are two for two against each other for this season. I am pretty sure it was me and you that had differing opinions on the freshman being a contributor on varsity for NDA. It looks like she might be starting varsity. 😉

The younger Battle started?!

I get Van Slooten is gone. She is starting over Cucamogi (sp) Armstead, Jade Battle, Thames and Simms?
She is a point guard. She is head and shoulders above Armstread, and I’m not sure what other girls would play that position for them. Her starting is what I heard from someone else. I think they play today so hopefully bcsn has it on. She is 100% a big part of their team.
