Ohio State Football 2024

Better start the GoFundMe to start raising buyout funds then.

The Covid year budget shortfall resulted in the athletic department taking out a loan from the university. The academic institution isn’t going to lend the athletic department a $50 million loan to cover a budget deficit from firing a crappy overpaid coach.
Boosters would be expected to cover the buyout, not the University (the state). That and buyouts are not necessarily paid in all up front cash. Think annuities and insurance policies. Thus I do not think the buyout is really an obstacle to move on from Ryan Day.

McLaughlin gets his consensus All American status with the FWAA naming him first team. He is the 57th in OSU history.

Downs run for unanimous All American continues has he is also named to the FWAA first team.

While you are right the boosters would cover the buyout, I disagree it is not an obstacle. Because it isn’t just Day’s buyout. It’s Days, Kelly’s, LJ’s, Knowles’, anyone who isn’t retained. The boosters are also paying the buyouts for whoever they hire away to replace Day, Kelly, LJ, Knowles, etc.

It isn’t just (relative term here) $40m. It’s probably much closer to $60m.

Good points .

Before I do this, I acknowledge that this year's loss to Michigan is inexcusable, and I am not saying that Day is a great coach. He particularly gets ultra conservative in big games. However...

Reminder:
- 2019 - lost by 6 points to Clemson in the playoffs. Dobbins TD overturned, Fuller's scoop-and-score overturned. Both incorrect calls, clearly. Possible natty derailed by the zebras.
- 2020 - Smoked Clemson in a playoff game, then got smoked by Bama in the championship game. He was not alone in getting smoked by that Bama team.
- 2022 - Lost by a point to Georgia. Missing Smith-Njigba, Henderson, Stover, and MArvin knocked out by uncalled targeting. Missed field goal away from a natty.
- 2024 - Lost at Oregon by a point. We all know how that happened.

So be careful what you wish for. He may not be the best coach, but he is among the best recruiters. We can only hope that he and Chip Kelly can unclench their B-holes for the upcoming games and let 'er rip on offense. Maybe the Bucks can win 3 or 4 games in the next month and a half, and end all this silly hand-wringing and discussion about Day's buyout.

I have yet to hear a suggestion about a surefire replacement, but I'm willing to listen.

You haven’t heard one because there isn’t one. There is currently only 2 active coaches with titles and the one doesn’t believe in the transfer portal

I've said as much in another thread. Be careful what you wish for in making a rash decision. The timing immediately after the TTUN game could have been catastrophic considering NSD and the Transfer Portal. But I get it. Someone has to be held accountable. It will be interesting to see how patient the fanbase is when they get what they want, and this thing is torn down to the studs.

The Dobbins TD was clearly an incomplete pass. The refs didn't cost Ohio State that Clemson game in 2019.

So this is Ohio State’s grand strategy to combat the orange wave of Tennessee fans? Turning the stadium into all-red lighting like we’re watching a newly debuted Kane wrestle matches in 1997? Feels very desperate and underhanded!

Since Kane is now the real-life mayor of Knox County, TN, I hope he uses his powers to set fire to all four pylons while simultaneously turning the real lights back on! (Or would that be a felony?)

This was the plan before the ticket debacle. Which is getting hugely over-blown, by the way. Lol.

I agree with you on the childish stuff which is much more recent thing. That being said, beating Michigan is the top priority. Minimizing that is what losers do.

I 100% agree. What a lame way of taking the heat off the coach and the best rivalry in all of sports. If this make osu admin, coaches, players, fans, etc.. feel better, than so be it. But if this was reversed, there is no way they would feel this way. If you are good, you can have your cake and eat it too. Michigan team 144 did it.

Let's face it, going undefeated, while nice, not a requirement to win a National Title. Which is why when Oregon does it this year, it will be even more amazing.
Winning "THE Game" will always be a big deal. If any osu or Michigan admin, coach, or player says otherwise, they are clueless regarding the greatest rivalry in all of sports, or they are trying to deflect and minimize the last 4 years. That would be pathetic. And by the way, Michigan team 144 beat osu = check. They won the Big10 = check. They won the Natty while going 15-0 = check. It can be done.

For about 1 or 2 more weeks

This is not a quote. The post was my opinion. Go bother and critique someone else. We clearly clash a lot, and I am done with it with you. Because I see you as a nothing but a: stir the pot trouble maker, I will be putting you on ignore. This will be my last words to you. Have a great holiday season and bye!

Not sure what will be about 1-2 more weeks. My point was that Michigan proved that you can win "THE Game", win the Big10, win the Natty, and go undefeated all in the same season. The thing that makes it somewhat harder, is a 12 team playoff vs. a 4 team playoff. Although there are about 4-6 teams that don't even belong.

That’s funny. Who’s soft?

Brother if you don’t know how to use the quote function or even know what it is, maybe you should hop off the internet.

I would like to ask the people that are trying to down play the osu-Michigan game a curious question. Would you be ok with losing 20 straight games to Michigan, to win 2 nattys in that same span? Or Beat Michigan 10 straight times and no Natty's? I may actually make a special thread with this question.

Ohio State won 2 natties in a 20 year time frame while going 17-3 against Michigan.

This ^^^^.

In the grand scheme, there is no valid reason to fire Ryan Day. Yet even successful organizations get stale, and need a change in leadership to restore health. At least with Day, the Bucks are competitive and in the championship conversation. I just don't know how patient Buckeyenation would be with something new but lessor results.

I'm not down playing the significance of the rivalry. And, most likely the winner of the game will have some influence over who is going to play in the B10 title game. However, if the overall goal is to win the National Title and the winner or loser of this game does not impact the team's playoff chances as it did this year, it does kind of weaken the rivalry's influence on a season, maybe not this year's Seniors because they never won the game. What it does do though, is influence a team's chances at getting a bye in the playoffs, which I believe is the most important thing in the playoffs. Most likely it will be Oregon vs Georgia this year, and neither team has the playoff gauntlet Ohio State has. Do I want to see midfield fights after games, sure makes great TV. But if you tell me that over the next 10 years we have a losing record to Michigan, but win 2 national titles I'm comfortable with that, yet that does not seem realistic. Look no further than Pro Sports Wild Card teams to still make it to the Championship game though, it can be done.

I don't disagree with the ultimate prize is winning the Natty. But I am also realistic that winning that on a yearly, maybe decade basis is extremely difficult. "THE GAME" is played every year, until that changes, that is 100% a yearly goal that IMHO is not to be taken for granted and osu and Michigan work 365 for that game. That means something just knowing that.

The national championship game is also played every year. There’s no chance you actually watch football.
