Ironton Vs. Marion Local In Week 1...Not So Fast

Are you insinuating Dayton Public would be a better gate than Marion Local?
No absolutely not. I was trying to be brief, but historically it looks like Troy and Piqua aren't concerned about improving their opening game gate. It seems they're scheduling to get a week 1 win.

So what I meant by the last line was that if they are interested in a better gate, Marion Local would definitely accomplish that over the teams they usually schedule.

Ironton had their year..i would think they would be the underdogs with this match up.
They may or may not be underdogs. But, although they lost a lot, they have plenty of talent coming back. For example, even though Schrek played well this year, Ironton's backfield will be better than this year. Edwards will be the QB - and he is a more dynamic player. Plus, Zayne Williams will be back as RB. Ironton may have "their year" again next year. *Not refuting your post, Mr.wrsIn2...just my opinion. I think it would be a toss-up.

Talking big school's vs small schools, this might come as a surprise to some yappi posters but football is not the end all at small schools like Marion Local (MAC schools). Economics do matter (diesel fuel plus other economic considerations). AD's are going to do what is best for their school not what some yappi posters want. Hoban, St. Eds do not have 8 game league schedules either. Marion Local will try to fill the fill the non league schedule with closest available than go from there and as a taxpayer that is what schools should do. St. EDs, Hoban. Glenville are all private schools.
When did Glenville become a private school? 🤣

Do you think ML will put that win streak on the line in week 1 against a even opponent. Let's see if they back up their tough talk or will they avoid a schedule a cupcake.
I agree, they need to challenge themselves out of conference especially if people are going to keep saying “they could win D4-7 easily.”

Also, who is running their account? A.I.? Parents?

Goodwin says

“This account isn’t run by myself or any other coach. We appreciate the interest in #flyerball but responding to this account is speaking to an empty room.”

I would think they would have someone running their account that he at least trusts and isn’t compared to an “empty room” When talking about #Flyerball.

Basically impossible to replace Terry for Ironton. That being said, the sophomore class this year got lots of playing time and is the same group that accomplished an undefeated and not scored upon season as 8th graders. Maybe two years away from another deep playoff run but I’m looking forward to watching Edwards at QB. Already has a Kentucky offer and will likely be the best overall athlete Ironton has ever had at the position. ML will be ML. Big roster so basically about 45 kids practiced against this outstanding senior class. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if they go undefeated again and embarrass someone in the finals. They’re a machine.

You realize anyone can make a Twitter account right? I could make one right now as your name and make it seem like you're running it

Really ? All year we had to hear about how good ML was and how many divisions they would win. Well step up and play. Champ vs Champ
You realize Marion Local fans aren't saying they would win many divisions every year? Show of hands....how many Marion Local fans think they can win many divisions every year? The 2024 team was special. Yeah I think the 2024 team would probably beat the D4 Champ this year. But that's just one special year. Not too many of the big boys were chomping at the bit to play the 2024 team. Now everyone wants a piece of 2025 apparently.

What part of those are not people from the marion local community is hard to understand? Those are people that speculate about every other program but their own. The people on here from ML have stated this repeatedly. Maybe your interpretation may be that they are from ML, but they are not.

I believe I'm aware of very nearly all the ML posters on yappi (tho I don't know the actual identity of all of them).

We Marion posters are not beating our chests and irritatingly bragging about how our team could beat a Moeller, Massillon, etc.

It's posters who are not affiliated with Marion - and not affiliated with any other MAC school - who are making statements about the Flyers that others find distasteful and arrogant.

Ironton fan here. I think by and large the ML contingent here are incredibly respectful especially given their unprecedented success. It seems to be some general blowhards that start threads about how many divisions ML would roll in while also challenging them to “play up” to test their mettle. It’s likely based in jealousy that often shows up when someone or a team becomes very successful. My hat is off to them. It’s fun to watch a group of young people perform at a consistently higher level than their competition for such an extended period of time. If there is a better small school program in the country I sure don’t know where it is.

I would encourage many of the people who seem adamant about their negative approach towards the Marion Local community to take this energy and help their local sports programs. If you research Tim Goodwins post game comments over the years you'll find that he gives bits and pieces as to his approach to the program.

His motto is "Chasing Perfection". Film, lifting, drills, whatever the activity, do it to be the best is what he expects. And it starts at lower levels where he tells the coaches "teach them the fundamentals, give them all as much time to use them in a game as possible, make sure they're having fun, and get as many of them up to me as you can."

Jr high games every kid plays, there's a 1st team offense and 1st team defense with usually only 2 or 3 kids on both. Every series will be a new group of kids rotated in. You'll regularly see 5 or 6 kids run the ball. They will intentionally get every receiver 3 or 4 attempts throughout the season and 3 kids will rotate in at QB. Win lose or draw that's what it will be. There are 6 coach coaches (all but 2 are volunteers) that do not yell at them, but will send in a replacement so they can coach them while a mistake is fresh in their minds. They also start film study thru HUDL at jr high.

Last is parents and community. We will always support the kids 100% without exception. You almost never hear a discussion about coaches, good, bad, or indifferent around kids. Rarely are there any issues in any extra curriculum, but even when there is, it's handled discreetly so kids do not have to see negativity or create animosity on a team.

Just a few things that we feel to be instrumental in more than just the football program and any community can easily implement.

You don't pay attention at all do you?

They've played Wapakoneta, McComb, Patrick Henry, Watterson, Chaminade-Julienne in the last decade. Even Linton-Stockton this year ended up being state runner up in Indiana, and ML traveled there this year. They're not afraid of playing Ironton. It just has to make sense. If Ironton is looking for a 1 year deal at Ironton, that doesn't make sense. Home and home or neutral site, maybe.

But saying ML is scared to put their streak on the line is downright hilarious.

I have met some ML alumni in real life, most of them but not all, I didn't care for, for one reason or another. A few just this year kept carrying on about how they were far and away the best team in the state and that the defending state champions in D-I or D-II would be afraid to schedule Marion Local next year.
Incidentally I meet a lot of people, and my experience has been that Marion Local alumni and fans have been the most unpleasant to meet out of all of them followed by Steubenville and Glenville.
My comments and remarks are not solely on the basis of what is said on this forum but also what people have said to me in person.

Also on an unrelated note I wouldn't be surprised if Marion Local has a lot more seasons in their future where they are forced to settle for only 4 home games or take a bye.

I believe this as much as I believe it takes 5-6 hours to get from Conneaut to Columbus…

I am not disputing what it says on google maps, but that doesn't change how long it takes in reality. If there are accidents it is going to take longer. People in the greater Columbus area seem to have a propensity for getting into an accident on I-71 every time it rains or snows. Not to mention it will obviously take longer also if you travel at all during peak hours.
I work all over the state of Ohio as well as surrounding states, so I meet and interact with a lot of people as a result. Most of my interactions are fairly pleasant actually, just a handful of schools/communities that I have had almost exclusively negative interactions with. It may be surprising to some folks here but I have had mostly pleasant experiences with Massillon alumni in real life.

Have you ever considered it may be you? You are an unpleasant person online. I imagine not much changes in person. Dwight Schrute on yappi.

Most people in ML school district couldn't even tell you what the winning streak number is. Again, it is H.S. football, aint as important to the average person in Ohio (including Marion school district residents) as it is to yappi posters, just look at the championship attendance. ML will play whoever is willing to sign a 2 - year deal. However, ML still has to play a MAC schedule which includes defending D6, champ Coldwater, 21 D6 champ Versailles, 22 D7 champ New Bremen.

In defense of this year’s D4 champ I think you should look to them on how hard it actually is to compete at the highest level of D4 with “regular kids”. The beauty of ML is that they are outstanding because of a great community, coaching, and kids that are bought it. IV has Zero players that have transferred in during high school, they are just a rural school with great coaches and kids that work exceptionally hard. You usually don’t run into schools like that in the last few weeks of the playoffs in D4. You are usually competing with schools that can control their population and/or heavily recruit kids. I’m not saying ML couldn’t win D4 at times but I will say that you wouldn’t be able to run the table year in and year out and I actually don’t think you would beat this year’s champion either. But it’s easy to say you would when there is zero chance that you can ever play them.
