Ironton Vs. Marion Local In Week 1...Not So Fast

If this happens, I will be there. Both teams lose a ton of talent so it would likely be a little sloppy, but still. Come on ML, put your money where your mouth is.

Marion Local vs. Ironton would be an excellent matchup. Have it on a Saturday afternoon at a neutral site somewhere halfway to make it happen. Worst case, whoever loses still has a good chance of going 9-1.
Saturday at Welcome, Springboro, or Centerville, Milford if Ironton is picky

All jokes aside, I don’t realistically think ML is scared. Honestly, this wouldn’t be an ideal 1st game match up for either team with them both losing a lot to graduation, but damn would it be fun to see.

Plus, ML has a winning streak to worry about and how will their fans keep saying they could win a state championship in DI or DII if they get beat by a lowly DV champion?

Hardly, they have to see what the terms are. ML most likely will not do anything less than a home and home. If Ironton is only willing to do a home then it'll probably be a no go. I doubt they want to do that 2 years in a row.
depending on the gate of course.

I would imagine Ironton wouldn't mind coming to ML one of the years. Have you ever seen a game at the Tank? I coached in two and watched a few others. It's a pretty special place to play a game. It surely has a very nostalgic feel. It had a grass field back in my coaching days, but it was like stepping back in time. I've seen a few games at ML and they're great in their own right, but the atmosphere at Ironton is a different level.

You mean you don't like the grain elevator backdrop lol

I think we should stop with the week 1 trepidation. We can all be rusty week 1, or not. I personally like big openers.

Hoban opened w/ Spaulding & Bosco. Walsh opened w/ Ursuline and McDowell. Glenville with Upper Arlington. Massillon recently opened w/ Valdosta and Moeller, and Glenville next year. Eds obviously. Kirtland v. Dalton, etc. It's all good.

No, Marion Local nor very few schools are going to play a 2-game series with both games being away. The Flyers did play a 2 for 1 series with Wapak was hoping for Wapak to come to ML for a 4th game but Wapak said no.

Talking big school's vs small schools, this might come as a surprise to some yappi posters but football is not the end all at small schools like Marion Local (MAC schools). Economics do matter (diesel fuel plus other economic considerations). AD's are going to do what is best for their school not what some yappi posters want. Hoban, St. Eds do not have 8 game league schedules either. Marion Local will try to fill the fill the non league schedule with closest available than go from there and as a taxpayer that is what schools should do. St. EDs, Hoban. Glenville are all private schools.
