D7 Region 27 2024

Going to disagree about Danville not being on Shadyside’s level. Danville has won this region 4X since ‘99 and had they been in this region instead of up north they’d have at least 2 more regional titles, and possibly 3. If they win the region the again as predicted that gives them 5 titles, with 4 runner ups in here, with a possible 2-3 trips here. That means they’ve been one of the top 2 teams in here 12 times out of 25 years.
We can disagree. It’s just a discussion and that’s what I like about Yappi as opposed to other sites..I’m not saying Danville is not on Shadyside’s level. They are on Shadyside’s level and at this present time they are way above their level. Tigers have made it to the big game 2 times, however. I’m saying they (Shady) have the 2nd best resume behind NC over the last 25 years. Just making that argument.

Danville - miller is at Sheridan
For food purposes along Rt 13,

North of 70
Crossroads is good at that traffic light @ U.S. 40. It'll be on the right hand side of southbound travel. Michael's Pizzeria, a couple doors down, is also fine.

South of 70
Eat in Thornport. Coming south on 13, south of 70, you'll come upon a traffic light with a dedicated left hand turn lane as well as a dedicated right turn lane. It's where the Dollar General is, that light. If you turn right at that light, you get into Thornport and you'll find some restaurants. Not sure what all will still be open in November, but I doubt they all are closed for the season.

I do NOT recommend passing Sheridan and going into Somerset for pre-game food.

From what I recall, Sheridan has good concessions.

What the hell is happening in WV? @Burreaux
Giant mess so buckle up.

WVSSAC which the equivalent to our OHSAA decided to rework their divisional set up. Having had A, AA, and AAA. They decided to add a fourth in AAAA which consists of the largest in the state ie Huntington, Parkersburg, Wheeling Park and so on.

Anyways just about 2 weeks before the season began there were about 5-9 schools that appealed to get moved out of AAAA and down to AAA and they all got approved. This hurt all the AAAA teams bc you get more points playing against teams your classification. Now as the WV season has ended many teams are appealing that they should get the adequate points for scheduling a team they originally thought was AAAA size and instead gets credit for AAA points thus having them lower in seeding. Now there were others that moved from AAA down to AA and such but I know for the most part everyone involved is upset

Thanks.

I’ve always thought WV’s way of doing things were bass-ackwards, and that their supposed reforms didn’t make any sense.

While there are plenty of useful criticisms of the OHSAA, we have it good here on this side of the river. I don’t see the general OH-WV interstate competition lasting much longer, tbh.

That supposed ‘strength of schedule’ implementation (bolded) is one of those WV reforms that I think is frankly a joke.

I’m sure everyone on TGC thinks it’s a great idea, until you run into other unintended outcomes like “how do games against Ohio schools factor in” because of the bass-ackward way WV does enrollment along with the fact it doesn’t square neatly to how schools on this side of the river see their enrollment.

For an example of the competency of the WVSSAC, look no further than how they handled the state championship games during the Covid season of 2020. If county the school is located in had a certain amount of cases or a certain percentage of cases relative to their population, that school was automatically eliminated from the postseason. I believe Wheeling Central fell victim to this. Ohio County had a higher percentage of cases per capita so they eliminated them and handed the state title to some team from WV that Central would have beat by a running clock. If I remember correctly, some of the title games weren’t even played on the field. Some champs were crowned at the semi final game, but I could be wrong. Just going off memory.

I believe South Charleston won AAA that year and didn’t even play a legitimate state championship game. Also going back to Wheeling Central I can recall both Morgantown and University falling victim to just being in the same county as WVU and the sheer amount of students that went there pretty much ended their seasons and it wasn’t the fault of the players

Yes bass-ackwards is the best way to put it. Lot of things that just don’t make sense or make you scratch your head. I do enjoy the interstate match ups I hope there is a more formidable approach so they don’t go away

Interstate matchups. I don’t think our Ohio Valley teams could fill their schedules without interstate matchups!!

Speaking of interstate matchups.Wheeling Central —The fan base that says “nobody will play us so we have to travel 5 hours to southern WV to play, travel to upstate PA or bring in DC teams to play.” Well they tried to play Fort Frye and I still don’t know if Central has ever scored on them.
Maybe they can reach out to Kirtland, MSML, Danville, Dalton, Newark Catholic, Mogadore. I don’t think those “small schools” would be afraid to play…

Edit:
Played 3 times in last 5 years. Fort 113 WC19

Wheeling Central has a hard time scheduling some of those Ohio schools in football because of the spinner offense. It's not seen as useful to play.

Building a better approach begins with not having some arbitrary splitting of Edison, Buckeye Local and Harrison Central (all of whom are D5 in OHSAA football) into different size classifications by the WVSSAC standard (all grade levels, boys + girls.) If I recall correctly, two of those three are considered 2A and the other is considered 3A for SOS purposes.

Huh? Just go to straight cognates: D7-D6 = 1A; D5-D4 = 2A; D3-D2 = 3A; D1 = 4A

Hahah not sure if you’re serious or not.
I actually am. It's not seen as useful to schedule WCC when they run that offense -- no one in Ohio runs it at the volume that they do. Why burn a week of gameplanning in the regular season to defend it? The goal, of course, is to win, yes; but when you have a longer term view of how you want your season to go, time in the regular season is finite.

The biggest thing with is it makes too much sense. Therefore they won’t do it

Honestly I think it is going to be a really tight game. I realistically think that Eastern is more physical (vomit). However, I cannot but help to root for the Rockets.
Why vomit?

I’ll take Eastern with one more win in a close game. CV will be their best competition so far this year. But their run ends next week.

Why vomit? You still coughing up crow from last week or something. I don’t think you needed to say who you were rooting pretty obvious.

Going to be a good game, team with fewest turnovers win it

That’s an astute observation there at the end. Ironically I think Eastern wins it and also picked them to win last week as well even if the score prediction was tongue in cheek.
