2024 Federal League

Green did a nice job making adjustments and fixing mistakes from Week One. Pass blocking, penalties, and poor coverage were all problems against Dover, but not at all against a Riverside team that was probably better than Dover. I'm optimistic about our chances in the next three games against Tallmadge, Hoover and Jackson.
Haven’t seen the bulldogs yet this year, but I have a feeling they are in for another strong year barring any injuries. Dover is a good football team and it sounds like they just let that one get away. Hopefully week 10 is a good one. Streaks and Dawgs have been playing some meaningful matchups late in the year the last couple seasons.

Week 3 Scores
Lake 24 Brecksville 0
Warren Harding 15 Perry 9
Fitch 35 Glenoak 0
Jackson 31 Stow 7
Detroit Cass Tech 20 McKinley 3
Hoover 40 Akron North 6
Green 14 Tallmadge 6

Perry may not have won, but they showed they can hang with a good team. Next week vs Lake should be an absolute battle. Jackson needed a win badly, and they got it. Probably get another next week at Mayfield. Hoover, Lake and Green all took care of business.

What's going on with GlenOak? I know they've played a hard schedule, but you'd think at least one of their games would have been close.

My spies tell me Perry fumbled 6 times and lost three in Raiders territory, the last one inside their 25, which would have given them a first down on the WH 21, ouch! With their kicker, that’s at least 9 points. Hey, that’s what happens when you turn the ball over that many times. Then I heard WH’s QB stepped up big time on their game winning drive late in the fourth. Running, scrambling and completing passes. Tough loss, but some things to learn from.

numerous missed opportunities, you cannot fumble that much and expect to win. I realize it was raining hard at times but that is part of the game.

Standings after Week 3
Lake 0-0 (3-0)
Green 0-0 (2-1)
Hoover 0-0 (2-1)
Perry 0-0 (2-1)
Jackson 0-0 (1-2)
McKinley 0-0 (1-2)
Glenoak 0-0 (0-3)

League play starts next week, I’ll post the schedule later today or tomorrow. Gonna be real interesting this year, I think it’s pretty even top to bottom, IMO and we should have some great league games.

In other news, it looks like Jackson found a running back. Satterfield ran for over 200 yards last night for the Bears. Jackson is always a threat when they can run the ball.

Exceptional defense has been played in the Federal League so far. 4 teams allowing less than 15 per game. Here are the averages for each team:

Perry 5.0
Hoover 11.7
Lake 12.0
Green 14.7
McKinley 20.0
Jackson 23.7
GlenOak 40.7

Offenses, on the other hand, have not been quite as stellar:

Lake 31.7
Hoover 24.0
Perry 20.3
Jackson 20.3
Green 18.3
McKinley 14.3
GlenOak 2.3

Looks like there's going to be some low-scoring games in conference play, starting on Friday with Lake- Perry and Green-Hoover.

Here is how they stack up in Drew Pasteur's rankings:

McKinley ( #31 overall, #3 in Region 1, #12 in D1)
Lake (#61 overall, #4 in Region 5, #13 in D2)
Green (#72 overall, #6 in Region 5, #18 in D2)
Perry (#97 overall, #4 in Region 7, #24 in D2)
Hoover (#98 overall, #10 in Region 5, #25 in D2)
Jackson (#101 overall, #8 in Region 1, #36 in D1)
GlenOak (#194 overall, #14 in Region 1, #54 in D1)

The Panthers played inspired defense for most of the game. Offense was a bit sluggish in the first half, but I give credit to the Blue Streaks tough defense for the bulk of that. A great run by Kyson Walker and a 50 yard field goal by Huggins were big. Second half I thought the Panthers offense started to control things better. Defense was big again. Liked the HB option pass and the reverse on the final TD drive. Lake made things interesting in the final minute, but a big interception in the end zone sealed the deal for the Panthers.
Just my opinion, but I think young DeGeorge needs to get the ball in his hands more at QB or at RB. He’s shifty. The Blue Streaks Will a lot of games this year.

Standings after Week 4
Green 1-0 (3-1)
Perry 1-0 (3-1)
McKinley 1-0 (2-2)
Jackson 0-0 (2-2)
Lake 0-1 (3-1)
Hoover 0-1 (2-2)
Glenoak 0-1 (0-4)

Thoughts on Perry vs Lake

Perry has an excellent D at all 3 levels and a very good QB who played way better than Lake’s. The they ran the clock and beat Lake up in the trenches combined with some timely and accurate passing.

Lake looked a little off, but I think that was because of the Perry D. The QB was definitely off the mark on his throws til later in the game, which when combined with an ineffective running game was a recipe for a loss. The concerning thing was the O line play, you have to be able to open some holes, hopefully that can improve or they are not going to have very many league wins.

Perry's defense is the real deal.

Jackson fans have been awfully quiet on here since Week 2, but the Bears have silently evened their record going into the Green game. Jackson likes to fly under the radar. Could be an ominous sign for Green.

Bulldogs can't get complacent after winning at Hoover, nor can they get caught looking ahead to McKinley. History shows that Jackson can be dangerous, particularly on the road and particularly when you least expect it.

Yeah… ask us Lake fans about Jackson on the road… We will tell ya.

I think Lake/Glenoak will be interesting tonight.

Lake better be ready to play. Glenoak is 0-4, but give Lake that same schedule and they are likely 0-4 also. Glenoak will also be hungry, I would think as this game will be their best chance for a win so far this season. Hope I'm wrong and Lake takes it to them.

Perry play discipline mistake free football keep McKinley’s athletes in front of you. Perry fans should be excited for tonight. Let’s get this program back to a place it hasn’t been since Wakefields last year as head coach in 2020.

I can't speak for other Jackson fans but I'm gunshy until I see more. There's nothing awful in Jackson's resume, and the stats look good. But what usually happens is they fall into being the Fed's perpetual bronze medalist for one reason or another. Scraping by Mayfield would seem to say we're headed for another 5-5 season, and while I haven't listened to or watched any games this season, there have been odd/bad coaching errors by the Polar Bears that gave away a few games in the past couple years.

I will say I do have a hunch about this one -- the Bears win. They've just simply seen better competition than the Bulldogs and history doesn't back up Green being such a massive favorite in the Fed pick'em. Road team special incoming by 7. Of course any other result wouldn't shock me.
