2024 Federal League

Thanks. I don't think I understand your trepidation to McK going OE. Especially knowing now that Perry and Green are OE. Are you inplying that if indeed McKinley goes that route they should be kicked out of the league? Perry has gained a LOT of kids over the years for wrestling. From next door neighbors Jackson to across the nation, (Texas, New York and California) to internationally....Russia, I never hear much talk about that. Why is Perry's recruiting (your words not mine) for wrestling acceptable? And finally, was Green OE before they joined?
First as an individual I am not happy that Perry and Green are open enrollment...from my observation with other sports at Lake I know other individuals are not happy with those schools having open enrollment. I am not sure if Green came into the league as an open enroll school but I think they did....I really do not know why Green is open enroll...but if you look at their last CB numbers it was 0..I think this is due to space restrictions...they are currently building a new middle school. I can only guess that observation. Why they chose to be open enroll I do not know. I think Perry also has a space restriction issue as well. My only observation on why Perry went open enroll was to help recruit wrestlers...I have to think there is an official reason why they will state why they did this...but it did help make a better wrestling team by utilizing it.

Now concerning McKinley going to open enroll..as approached by numerous posters on here...what is the real reason they are suggesting this? They have not given any official reason why McKinley needs to do this. Nobody has refuted my point it is only being done to recruit with any kind of official reason on how this benefits them. Then throw in Tryell as a possible coach...If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck...it is a duck. McKinley has won 9 of the last 13 league titles with out recruiting or open enroll...I can't remember the year they consolidated McKinley with Timken but there were two high schools when McKinley joined the Fed, and they were smaller then GlenOak and Jackson in 2004. From 2004 to 2011 they only won 2 Fed Football titles. Then becoming the largest school they started dominating the league in football. So let me ask...why shouldn't the league be concerned with this? I have yet to read a response that will answer the reasons for McKinley to open enroll

I would guess the posters wanting to go to Open Enrollment is to even the playing fields to compete with the large private schools and large public schools for state titles. If CCSD has the room and they decide that’s what they want to do, then that is what they should do. They need to make the best decision for themselves, not the Federal League.

Also, I would argue the Federal League was better from top to bottom 2004 to 2011. Heck, the McKinley teams with Morgan Williams were better than any McKinley team in the last 13 years. To say McKinley is better since consolidation is incorrect in my opinion.

I agree with what you are saying....my position is be up front about the issue. How the league would proceed will be the direction of schools ...I just know that there will be a discussion to the change and McKinley could jeopardize their league membership.

The Morgan Williams team was better than any Mck team in the last 18 years. They haven't had a team remotely close to that since.

Do you believe that Perry and Green should be told to go closed enrollment or their FL membership be in jeapordy?

The discussion is why does the largest school in the league needs open enrollment for football...McKinley has won 9 of the last thirteen league titles without it. Let me ask you...why do you think that the league should not be concerned about this?
Either the league should allow anyone to have open enrollment or no one to have it. I don’t hear any sour grapes from Perry and Green having it. Your excuse of McKinley having the largest enrollment sounds like more of a personal problem against McKinley than open enrollment in general. Why aren’t you against Green and Perry having it? Lake is also free to have it if their district and tax payers choose to do so.

I see why you asked that question because of McKinley in jeopardy...there are probably numerous ways to answer this...so I will leave it back to the direction of the schools. They could decide that McKinley going open enrollment is not an issue or they could decide McKinley open enrollment is more of an issue then Green and Perry. The only thing that I currently believe there will be a conversation concerning this...my personal opinion at this point doesn't hold any power

I am an adding an edit here...so as not to change the answer I posted...I fully understand also McKinley going open enrollment it may not change their football team...they may not get any better...but hiring a football coach that knows how to utilize open enrollment I don't see that happening.

Read my very first sentence in that statement.."First as an individual I am not happy that Perry and Green are open enrollment...from my observation with other sports at Lake I know other individuals are not happy with those schools having open enrollment" Do I have an issue with McKinley going open enrollment...well that is an easy to answer...yes I do. Read back to my previous posts on why I stated Lake is not open enrollment...all I am saying that Lake as a league member can react to what McKinley decides....and I believe there will be a discussion on it...and once again my personal opinion hold no power

McKinley is a school of 900 boys...They dressed 65 kids against Lake this year and last year...40 the year before..I am asking why is this?

Don't see that's any of the league's business. Would you accept the league telling a member school how to run their finances?

I'd also suggest that it is unconscionable if, as a league, the Fed objects to McKinley going OE while permitting other schools to do so.
I don’t think it should be any of the leagues business either. However if they do make it their business they shouldn’t be selective to whom it applies.

Leaving it up to the schools should mean that if there is a vote, the vote should NOT be....should McKinley be allowed to go OE....if there were to be a vote the vote should be....should anyone in the league be allowed to be OE....don't know how you could be ok with two sets of rules.

The only reason there would be conversation on this is that there are current existing desires for McKinley to not be there and this would add to that for some reason.

Maybe the other fed league schools are tired of having their helmets ripped off multiple times a game 🤷🏻

Is McKinley going to open enrollment?

Or is it just clueless fans here saying that they should go to open enrollment?

Not really an argument unless they actually go open enrollment. As others have said, there are 2 other open enrollment schools in the FED. So, can’t really complain if McKinley does it.

Why shouldn't there be discussion about McKinley on the Federal League thread? They are in the conference after all.

I haven't seen anyone diminish McKinleys past accomplishments or anything like that. They are of course very impressive.

No idea if McKinley is considering open enrollment, but it's just plain true that McKinley brought in a bunch of transfers this year for football, including the best player from a fellow league school. Nobody wants to lose their players, especially to a league rival. Obviously the other coaches in the league wouldn't be happy if McKinley went open enrollment.
I also have no idea if the Canton City School District is considering Open Enrollment, but if they do, it will put them in alignment with all the other urban districts in Ohio. Perry and Green having Open Enrollment may make them an exception rather than the norm as many suburban districts have closed enrollment.

Why do you think those folks are clueless?
Just a hunch, but I doubt any of them are actually involved in making this type of decision.

They just think McKinley should do this so they can attract some more athletes and a coach. I was just questioning if the school is actually interested in going open enrollment.

I don't think there's really been anything from the school that would indicate such interest. I guess they could be?

Either way, I don't see this as being an issue with the Federal League, as (as has been noted already) there's two schools in the league that already are open enrollment.
