2024 Federal League

I don't know. It doesn't seem to bother the league when it comes to Perry and wrestling, or does it? Serious question.
The sport that is the biggest at all the schools is football....McKinley is competitive to the schools as they are now...but once they change to become better then every team in the league thru enrollment enhancement ....in football, basketball, and baseball....I think the league can look at change...they are the 11th largest high school in the state...they could become larger or enrollment enhancement would be a selective process...but it would be used

Even if they use it in just two sports....Football and Basketball....you have 12 coaches that will not be happy with the change

Solid post. Thank you.

Yeah, right.
I can tell you this, I hear less calling for coaches jobs from Perry folks than I do McKinley folks.

I also think open enrollment is not the cure for the program. Yeah you might be able to get some kids to transfer, but McKinley has already been getting kids in the area to move in to play for their programs. Maybe not the caliber they want, but they have, and its been happening for a long time. The thing you run into with open enrollment is this, it also brings disgruntled folks who have an axe to grind with a former district, they usually want things their way and create problems. You also get behavior issue kids, or transient kids with a ton of baggage to go along with it. Schools typically do it for the funding they get with kids who enroll.

For reference, Olentangy schools does not allow open enrollment, heck, if you teach at lets say Orange, and you live in Liberty zone, you can't even tranfer your own kid if you work in Orange from Liberty.

McKinley to me, isn't as premier a job as it used to be. However, I could be wrong and eat my crow on here if they are able to pull a big name to turn it around.

The biggest thing they need, and people mentioned it is this, someone who can create a culture with discipline, a scheme to fit their players best abilities, and bring in quality assistants who make the biggest difference a lot of time in creating a successful program.

I think for the county and the league, a McKinley that can challenge Ed's and Massillon on a yearly basis is good for everyone. So I hope they are able to get a quality character guy in as the next HC (not to say Hall was not. I actually happened to respect coach Hall, but I feel like he needed better assistants)

Do they make a separate position for this new coach at McKinley....the last couple of coaches if I am correct weren't teachers...if they do this how much do you pay for that position? Is it considered Administration? I don't think Tyrell is a teacher at Hoban....are you going to pay him 6 figures just to coach? Massillon pays Moore to be the AD...even thou the asst probably does most the work....but Massillon brings in a lot of money with their program. McKinley used to but their home crowds have really dropped off...is their program a moneymaker or just breaks even? Then how do you justify paying for a person who will just coach basically?

This is a spot on post.....how much do you pay the new coach?...does he have to teach?...or do they find a makeup position and pay him large numbers just to coach? The Assistants...will there be positions in the school so they work there..or are they just a part time stipend football job?...I think a school like McKinley needs to have assistant coaches in the building all year...can they justify paying big salary out of their budget when tax dollars are being looked at?

I will say the right people are on this - same as at your respective schools having the right people on your business.

I am not saying open enrollment is the answer - however if the district goes that route I doubt other school officials would say anything as was stated in an earlier post that coaches may be mad but last I checked coaches from other districts do not dictate the policy of another district.

How a coach is compensated or what they are asked to do is irrelevant to you all because you do not pay taxes in Canton and I could explain to you the positions but I doubt you would understand as your demographics are not similar to Canton City's

CCSD has positions to fill each year with the size of the district. The outgoing HC did not hire certified assistants by choice, I would look for a change in this practice moving forward.

Some stating the position is not a premier or desirable destination - disagree and we all are entitled to our opinions

open enrollment is coming tho as much as some posters want to trash CCSD should have nothing to worry about

I am not questioning how much they want to pay a guy, I frankly don't even care.

What I am trying to say though is, the positions McKinley has open to bring people in will matter in the process of selecting a coach, unless CCSD can just create a position for someone if they didn't have an opening the new coach could fill.

Those types of things typically play a role in hiring a coach. I can assure you, you most definitely want your HC in the building daily with the kids. You also want as many assistants as possible in the building as well. If they do this, I think the program can take off in a hurry. With or without open enrollment

I am not saying what will happen with McKinley going to open enrollment....but what makes you so sure that the league schools will just let this happen? I do not know the bylaws but there has to be something that says you can vote a school out. I know it is written that if 2 schools say no to a school trying to join...then said school is stopped from joining. I am pretty sure if Mck does go open enrollment, it will be discussed

When it comes to McKinley being open enrollment....with other schools being open enrollment...are their kids that will use this to go to McKinley? Now I am comparing this to other schools....McKinley has a broader student population that is good and bad

would Jeff Rotsky make the trek down? That plus open enrollment could be a difference maker (I do agree with the points of doubtme about open enrollment and potential impact on team chemistry).

all schools get students from other schools. some schools in the league are open enrollment and some chose not to be - discuss....

qb from mogadore came to lake - there was no quorum

McK can lose kids but can't gain - has a great variety of programs to offer - if they so chose to go open enrollment what a weak look it would be for the league to vote them out. Outside of football McK has not dominated any other sport in the league but rather has rosters that struggle vs the league. Would it be a bad thing if more opportunity was offered to parents in the county where to send their kids?

Lake is smallest school in league but really can't leave as their rosters for ALL sports are robust and have kids waiting to participate. Same with Jackson. The league offers those schedules that provide competition for these schools - why would they want to stifle a better overall sports program for Canton City?

I can't blame CCSD if they look to attract kids when CHARTERS, neighboring districts, and private schools all take in Canton City kids when it suits them.

Jax, Lake, NC don't want to go open enrollment because they don't want kids from elsewhere to come there.....so why should they dictate other districts choice? McK kids have no problem getting playing time on other rosters - isn't turnabout fair play?

The QB from Mogadore moved into the district....Parents bought a house that is a duplex...that is why he didn't sit out any games. This is the only way a kid can go to Lake. They have to move in. He and his parents came in on their own. Lake had no influence on where he went

Jax, Lake, and Hoover can't do open enrollment if they wanted to....space limitations dictate this more then people realize...concerning Lake we would be overwhelmed from Springfield, then Field, and Marlington..we do not have the space...Hoover just built two schools and are building another due to the numbers coming up..Jackson has a space problem and the fact that 95% of their school budget comes from their property taxes...Here are the CB Numbers for this year....McKinley 893 boys with a 18 CB number...911 total...GlenOak 752 boys with 0 CB number...Jackson 701 boys with 0 CB number....Perry 530 boys with a 12 CB number...542 total......Hoover 521 boys with a 10 CB number...total 531 boys....Green 500 boys with a 0 CB number...Lake 404 boys with a 24 CB number...428 total. These are interesting numbers...McKinley not open but 18 from some source that counts toward their enrollment....GlenOak and Jackson no CB student numbers....Perry open enrollment and only had 12...Green open enrollment no CB number...Lake has a CB of 24...the only thing that I can attribute to this is Lake Center Christian can play sports at Lake that are not offered at their school( we have only had one boy play football that came from Lake Center)...Open Enrollment has I think a 2 week window where a kid can apply to that school...the school can decide to accept or not accept but there are regulations that they have to follow. Football at Lake, Hoover, and Jackson make money that pays for a bulk of the other sports...they are always trying to find ways to make more money...the one thing that hurts those efforts is a losing season..You ask why should they dictate other districts choice....but why should they accept a decision from a school that could affect them negatively?

McKinley from a football stand point only has to get 10 to 15 kids to come out that could make a difference to their program...why don't they recruit some of their own kids. Before you say it...not all 900 boys are kids that are trouble...they should be able to start a plan to develop this or at least try...if they haven't already

You can’t forget Massillon also pays author Becca Moore. So do you create position for spouses now too?

Like a drone over New Jersey I didn’t see your true colors in how you perceive McKinley and its student population so obviously until this topic and like the drones over NJ it’s all I can see coming from you going forward once they’ve been pointed out.
Thank you for clearing up my view of you from here.

It's not clear that open enrollment would result in a parade of talent into McKinley. What would be the attraction?

Vote McKinley out? Know your FL bylaws since you are in the office.

Call me a racist for calling out that Mckinley wants the approval to recruit athletes?..lol...I did not make one racist statement.....I used OHSAA numbers....you are a large school and wants the option to get larger....Open enrollment can be used to recruit...(that is the implied argument on here..then begging for Tyrell who early on was recruiting everything...now doesn't have to because he was so good at it) why else would a school of Mckinley's size need open enrollment? Why don't you explain to me why or what does McKInley need open enrollment.
