2012 Water Polo

I am working on getting the scores for all matches, but here is a summary:

Pool A-St. X, Sylvania, and TW
Pool B-St. Charles, Milford, and Napoleon
Pool C-Mason, St. F, and Kilbourne

TW, Milford, and St. F all won 2 matches in pool play

TW and St. F both beat Milford

St. F beat TW 6 to 5 on an unbelievable goal in the last minute. This was just after TW tied it on a 12 meter fade away shot that was just higher than the hands of the goalie. St. F and TW played a very good and physical game that St. F led throughout by 1 or 2 goals.

After a "come to Jesus" meeting on Thursday, St. Francis changed their lineup and inserted their fastest swimmers. They played tough defense and finally played as a team.

or they just played a team that wasnt as good as the ones they lost to, sycamore and ua, seems that this result was right on par with the rest of the year

No, they finally played inspired water polo. They played in your face defense and played as a team instead of launching a shot after a pass or two. Beating TW and beating Mason and Milford by double digits is a pretty good weekend.

St. Francis will be playing both Upper Arlington and St. Charles this coming weekend. These matches will probably be more exciting than the Buckeye/Spartan game!!!

interesting results on both fronts, both ua and sycamore were missing a starter i heard, one from injury one on a college visit it think, tomorrows games at ua should show even more in terms of where everyone stands, any predictions? sf, sc, ua, tw, wk, sx all there i think

We are hoping Charlie (Syc #15) makes a comeback before the season is over. He changes games just being in the pool.

Both girls and guys sycamore teams were missing a starter both players with hand injuries and UA did seem to be missing a starter but I can't place my finger on who it was

I think it was reardon missing, college visit maybe?
Anyways, some results from ua this am, ua 15 tw 5, sf 14 sc 4, ua 12 sf 4, sc 16 sx 8
Thoughts?

agreed, and you could easily argue the gap is only going to get bigger in an all deep pool with 7 minute quarters in mason! with their dominance they might get 7 or 8 kids on the first couple of teams all state, at least they should if they finish the year off!

7 or 8? That's saying of the top 20 in Ohio, their entire starting unit +1 off the bench are all there. That's a pretty bold call. Best playing team doesn't mean all the talent is only on that team. I think the most I've seen on 1st & 2nd & HM was 6. 4 1st, 1 2nd, 1 HM. That team was loaded more than any current team right now. Just don't see 7 or 8.

Sounds like UA is counting the chickens before the eggs hatch. Just where we want them... overrated and lazy. The gap is closing. @AviatorPolo rocks!

Although UA has been dominant in Ohio, they have not done well against the top Michigan teams. Is this because it's a down year in Ohio or is Michigan high school water polo that much stronger than Ohio?

I vote that this is a down year in Ohio, and Ohio has been down for a few years now. Take a look at the all-ohio list from 2007 that is linked above, and tell me how many players from this year are as good as the boys on the 1st team from 07? 1, maybe 2?? Several Ohio teams in 07 (and a few years prior, the years that I know best) were beating top Michigan teams outside of Rockford. What's the best win that an Ohio team has in the last couple of years?

Both are true. There are more teams in Michigan. The facilities are superior. In the past Michigan schools came to Ohio for tournaments. That never happens now because of the better facilities and competition in Michigan. That said the recent growth in Ohio is encouraging for the future. In the last few years Ohio has added St. Charles, New Albany, St. X and this year Oakwood. Hopefully, that trend will continue. But the biggest factor is facilities. Typically Michigan teams play in deep water pools with the appropriate dimensions for water polo. In Ohio only Mason (and maybe St. X) have deep water pools. Until Ohio has appropriate facilities or access to facilities (OSU, Miami, Bowling Green, etc.) water polo here will stuggle against other states.

Yesterday sycamore and x played with sycamore winning 11-7 with Charlie and #6 not playing and today sycamore played mason ad sycamore won14-5 I believe with Charlie and #4 not playing and #6 left during middle of game and masons Greg Gruseck did not play either

Saw that St. Charles beat Thomas & Sycamore this week end and then lost to Kilbourne & Milford. Is this a consistency problem or did SC change its line up against Kilbourne (who only has 4 wins) & Milford (who also has struggled this year). Anyway, it may be premature to write the Cardinals off and assume that St.F & Thomas will be the teams coming out of the North this year.

Regardless of who comes out of the North, they will be hammered by UA in the state tournament. UA is the premier aquatics program in the state for both boys & girls. For the 4th time they will win both the boys' & girls' state title. No other school has ever done that!

The guys UA team does appear to be far superior to everyone else but the girls will def get a good game from sycamore assuming they both get to the championship game
