The Dock
Persona Non Grata
For sure. You see this a lot in western Ohio (the MAC & the SCAL, the latter is where Russia, Botkins, Houston, Jackson Center and Fort Loramie et al play) and up in NW Ohio at places like Calvert, Kalida and Ottoville. In Central Ohio it’s not as common, especially as it relates to how many schools there are. A few in the OCC do it, the City League (esp. the City League South) does a good job from what I recall, but I don’t think the Ohio or LCL are as steeped in what you’re describing. One of the most significant things you can do as a coach is help the community, especially ones in need. The MSL coaches as a whole, in my opinion, show what it means to be a coach outside of basketball.
Culture matters, and it doesn’t stop at the gym doors. The schools do well in that regard. At last year’s BU game at our house, the two schools collaborated for a charity-related contest at half (can’t remember if it was 3-point or knockout.) In years past there’s been “food (drive) fights” and even Red Cross blood donation contests b/w FC and FCA.
