D3 2025 early outlook.

Update: Week 6 is at River Rouge, MI. They are a good program that, I believe, plays an independent schedule. They were 6-5 last year but were far better than their record.
Wow so 7 out of 10 opponents are from Michigan. Heck of a schedule though. Irish deserve another ESPN game with all the high-end talent returning, week 2 against Cass Tech would be ideal to showcase.

Any word on realignment, or when that will be announced? Interested to see who who is moving out of D3, and who may be moving in.

Last year, it was released at the end of April.

1. (H) Youngstown Ursuline
2. (H) Dunbar (DC)
3.
4. (H) Cardinal Mooney
5.
6. (A) Dover
7. (A) Linsly (WV)
8.
9. (H) Erie McDowell (PA)
10. (H) Wheeling Park (WV)

I'd like to see St. Clairsville on the schedule. It's ridiculous that they won't play us.

Maybe Ironton makes the call to come up in week four. I'd also like to see IV replace New Phila. Canfield would have been a solid game to have, but after last year, that won't happen. With no *local teams wanting to play them other than Park and Linsly, they will continue to have to fill some of those weeks with out-of-state privates and Pittsburgh City League teams willing to make the trip. *Local refers to teams under a 60-minute one-way trip.
I believe McNicholas is open Week 3. Why not grab a bus or two and make the trip west on I71?

Yeah, just do whatever you did last year. Have him call if they're open.

Coach Sac and his staff are neither from Cincinnati, nor did any of them attend McNicholas or any school in that vicinity. I'm glad Big Red could help Coach Orlando bring his team and son to play in his hometown on short notice. I'm sure McNich and Coach Orlando would always be welcome back.

In R10, TCC's program is on another level from the rest of the pack. Doubt that will change in 2025. Perhaps Perkins if, as indicated above, they move up to D3, could give TCC a challenge.

Padua made it to the regional finals with a 5-5 record in 2024 as it did in 2022 but graduates a lot of seniors, so I expect a down year. I've read on other threads that Benedictine (the #2 or #3 team in R10 in 2024) also graduates a lot of seniors.

Several publics in R10 have nice programs within their conferences (Buckeye, River, Lexington, Maumee, Midview, Revere, Copley, Lexington, BG) but never seem to be able to get past mid-tier parochials like Padua, Holy Name, Benny, or even Elyria Catholic let alone a program like TCC.

I wonder about Tiffin Columbian. They seem to be the best public program in R10 over the long haul but had a disappointing 2024 season. I really enjoyed seeing Padua play at their place in the 2022 playoffs. Great crowd, nice people. easy to root for even without a connection. Hope they return to form in 2025.
Benedictine lost a bunch of playmakers at RB and WR but they have 4 starters back on a really good OL and they have 3 DL who are getting D1 (FCS inc) looks in O'Neal, Spikes and O'Connell. RB looks like their biggest deficiency as they certainly don't have a guy like Chris Maloney back there, but they have some young skills who played a lot last year and I think IF they can get improved QB play they will be in the mix to be the second best team next to TCC in R10

Taking zero points from the Canada team may come back to bite them on getting 2 home playoff games next season.

They had the second most points in D3 behind only Bish Watt last year while having an 82 divisor. Huron Hts actually plays 6 or 7 American teams this year, including Harvest Prep; you'd think they could get something from that. Big Red only gets 7 games worth of points from Pitt city league schools and 8 or 9 from West Virginia because of Ohio's start date.

Anyway, I hear you; it could hurt them. Fingers crossed for some interesting matches in weeks 3 and 5.

Wapak will field one of their best teams in years. Most of the offense and defense are back and have seen a lot of kids who play another sport not playing dedicating the offseason for football. The 3 top offense weapons are going to camps all over the country and Moyer is a player of the year type quarterback

Lutheran East is moving up to D3. They made the playoffs in D4 last year, finished with their best mark in program history at 9-2, and got to host a playoff game for the first time in school history.

Tyler Curtain is the new head coach for the Falcons, replacing Desean Washington.

I would assume if Wapak is healthy, they will be a tough out.
Wapak will have Moyer back at QB who was all state with a D1 receiver in Page also Richardson and Bishop back at WR our main running back/reciever Mullins back and healthy also longsworth a bruiser back is back and most of the Oline on defense Buell will lead a very experienced defense. Wapak gets a lot of grief about not advancing to state but this is the team Coach Moyer has put a lot of effort into for this year. I truly believe if the can stay healthy they will compete for a state title

I agree and think Wapak will be very dangerous this year. I see a ton of similarities between Wapak and Tipp and I think if Tipp is gonna have a shot at going to state again, it’s going to be this year, with Thomas returning at QB, a D1 WR, their starting RB returning, their TE and 4 OL with starting experience returning, an all state LB returning and multiple pieces in the secondary coming back.

The official divisions are released this Friday correct? Will be interesting to see some moves, D2 3 and 4 all have a handful of heavy favorites, so these small moves can maybe give a team some breathing room (especially any team in with those favorites). If TCC gets into D2, that opens the floodgates for R10, while a team that might leave R13 gets out of the same division as Perkins, Lake Catholic, Glenville. A lot of interesting scenarios that could happen.

I’m sure there will be a few teams that add their hats in the mix. D-3 is tough and region 11 could be one of if not the toughest division in All of Ohio!
Watterson "might" be better in 25 than 24. It sounds crazy but 50% of starters returning! A few nearly unreplaceable seniors left but so many multi-year starters coming back at key positions. IDK about TCC, they had a lot of seniors but so much talent I cannot speak to their 25 outlook.

How do the teams outside of Watterson look? Stated on another thread Granville lost a ton, Tri-Valley I thought lost some key play makers, Licking Valley even if they come back at full force still lost to Watterson playing poorly? A lot of questions I do not have answers to hopefully someone does!

In the totality of D3 you’ll have to deal with TCC, Youngstown Ursuline returning a lot of talent, and potentially Gilmour Academy with some keys returners. As far as Region 11, you have Watterson who has earned the right to be the heavy favorite. As well you have Steubenville who’s always tough, Licking Valley as potential, Sheridan was pretty young last year after losing a ton the year prior. Also I’m a realist, not just because I am an alum of the school but Bishop Hartley will be a sneaky team in the region! They have a tough schedule this year but if they utilize the talent they have in the right way, they will be a tough team to beat!

Looks like Alter and Badin will be back in D3. Region 12 might not have a team who can win state but that’s got to be the deepest and toughest region to get out of. London, Bellbrook, Tipp, Wapak, St. Mary’s all return a ton, add in Alter and Badin and don’t forget Miami Trace who returns multiple D1 players, you’ve got 8 potentially top 15 teams in D3 next year from one region.

Gilmour is in no way, shape or form a contender in D3. They were by far the softest team the Irish played last year and it wasn't even close.

I'm looking forward to us playing both Steubenville and Hartley this year. Should give us a good read on the division.

Looking forward to the trip to Youngstown! Our boys walked away from that game last year with a lot of respect for the Ursuline program.

As always Wapak will look tough until week 13 then choke when it matters.

And we'll have a private school champ once again.

I have a lot of respect for Hartley but there’s no way they lose a legendary coach like Burchfield & don’t experience a dip. I’m sure they’ll recover but it’s going to take a year or two. Also hearing rumors they’ve had some good players transfer out. Any truth to those rumors?
