D3 2025 early outlook.

I have a lot of respect for Hartley but there’s no way they lose a legendary coach like Burchfield & don’t experience a dip. I’m sure they’ll recover but it’s going to take a year or two. Also hearing rumors they’ve had some good players transfer out. Any truth to

I definitely respect your view on the Hawks losing a great coach. So I can say that they lost a couple backups who transferred but all their primary players are returning. They’ve also added some additions through transfers themselves a couple of them coming from solid D1 programs. Also they should release the full coaching staff this week so be on the watch for that. I can attest that the new coaching staff is Legit!! Melle is an intelligent guy whose coached many years in college football though it maybe the small school level. Also one of the downfalls to the Hawks had been offensively the past few years. In that limited offense they’ve shown a lot of speed and talent. There’s always a next man up talent wise at Hartley but imagine if all the talent is on the field at the same time? Just saying don’t sleep on what’s to come! But like I said Watterson is still Big Dog of the CCL.

I think opening up the offense will HELP Hartley a lot if that is the route new coaching staff takes. Certainly have talented players. I see the next 2 years as tough in CCL for them though as Watterson (on paper) is way ahead and DeSales seems to be trending up. Things change quickly in HS football though. Watterson was 5-6 in 2021 season...

Calling the last two years choking after your All-State QB has season ending injuries right in the midst of playoff ball is a bit of a stretch, but sure…
I can see where this is looked upon as chocking from different people. 2 years ago we lost Caleb in the 2 quarter to a broken collarbone and in the 3rd quarter we lost our all state back Jace Knous to a knee injury and not long after that our number 1 receiver who went to play Quarterback severely sprained or broke his ankle and stayed in the game barely able to hand the ball off. The defense played very tough but a very questionable pass interference call doomed that game. Last year we lost Caleb to a hand injury and if we won he was going to be able to play the next week. Mullens who played QB that game with Page receiving almost brought home a win. So we choke any game away both were hard fought games against very good teams. I personally wonder why Moyer has not tried to develop a second string QB to at least run some of our regular offense his youngest son is a 9th grader this up coming season and Coach has not tried to develope him as our back up because I see him as our QB of the future.

I guess choking is a loose term to just throw around nowadays, but injuries to the most important position doesn’t necessarily fall in line with calling the last two years a choke job. It would be one thing if Wapak was at full strength and heavily favored and lost or lost in terrible fashion - but that was never the case even after such terrible rolls of the dice. It’s definitely frustrating they don’t have much of a backup plan or seem to drill it enough, but it’s high school football after all and I don’t see many teams that have solid backup plans if things go sideways

Those games are behind us now looking forward to a injury free season. This passing game is going to be scary Page is a full blown D1 recruit.

Fingers crossed on that - hope they can have a full season relatively injury free. Yeah I saw Moyer was at the Elite 11 session in Massillon recently, and Page was just invited to the Under Armour Next combine this past weekend (from what I heard it was a strong showing by Page). Page, in my opinion, is the best receiver in the NW Ohio area and region 12. By all accounts he has been putting in a lot of work this offseason to be even better than that record setting 2024 campaign. Excited to see another year of the Moyer to Page connection

Didn’t Wapak have a TE that talent to Louisville on last years team?
Never really featured him in the offense tbh, which at times was confusing given his size and ability to post up on defenders in the redzone…will say Page is the real deal so a lot of the pass game rightfully went that way

All the WR are working hard Bishop is coming over from CB to help out in the WR corp along with Richardson and Mullen. Just need the OLine to jell

We can only hope

How do the teams outside of Watterson look? Stated on another thread Granville lost a ton, Tri-Valley I thought lost some key play makers, Licking Valley even if they come back at full force still lost to Watterson playing poorly? A lot of questions I do not have answers to hopefully someone does!
The Reason why Licking Valley got beat by Bishop Watterson was because we were outplayed by a team that was much bigger than us.

No diss on Valley, I was impressed with them. Watterson just didn’t have an A game and they were still able to win, just trying to figure out who else stands to put up a fight in the region.

Been a Hartley fan for many years, and I'm not sure that the offense for the Hawks has ever been the problem. It's not what you see on Sundays, but it has been very efficient. I would guess they have average over 30 points or more a game since Burchfield started at Hartley. Last year alone it looks they score over 40 points in 7 games against one could argue one of the hardest schedules in Ohio. Is it sexy? Of course not, but one of things Burchfield has always done is use the kids he has and put points up. Maybe 40 points isn't that much these days but to say the offense has been the "downfall" is showing football ignorance. I would say getting Melle off defense to offense will most benefit the hawk. He clearly looked like he was struggling as the DC

Last years defensive coordinator is now the head coach at Hartley? They were terrible on defense. And didnt every other coach follow BB to Hilliard?
Brad left for a reason. No one would be surprised to see the Hartley running back end up at Darby by the summer.

Yes Coach Melle was the DC and yes all the coaches went to Hilliard. The fact is that Harltey has a ton of good players coming back and should be good. BB didn't leave the cupboard bare for sure. It will be interesting to see how the new staff and how they gel with the kids. I met some of the new staff and I can tell you one thing.... they don't lack confidence.
