Cleveland Guardians

A few weeks ago I posted that I was more concerned about the Royals catching the Guards than the Twins. I have not changed my mind about that so I think I have to pull for the Twins to take 2 of 3 from KC in this upcoming series. The Guards have had the Twins number for the last few years, usually very close games but with the Guardians ultimately winning. This year is no different with Cleveland taking 7 of 9 so far. It's difficult to catch a team when you can't beat them head-to-head. Hopefully that continues and the Guards can knock off the Royals as well down the stretch.

GO GUARDS!

Well the Twins did indeed take 2 out of 3 from KC and the Guards swept the Cubs so for me that was exactly what I wanted to see. The Guardians are 6 games in front of the Royals with 7 games left with them and 4.5 in front of the Twins but due to owning the tie-breaker against them the Guards are really another game in front of Minny. Enjoy the day off and bring on the Brewers.

GO GUARDS!

Boyd and Cobb did just what they were supposed to do. If they can keep up the quality starts, suddenly the rotation looks solid. Five in a row and playing a tough Brewers team in Milwaukee. Two out of three would be very nice, especially with three at the Yankees coming up. The KC vs Min series couldn’t have gone more perfect for CLE. We’re getting down to the stretch run! Exciting time for a baseball fan!

Just them pitching into the sixth inning is big … gives the bullpen much needed rest … they were looking a little shaky lately … now the bullpen can get back to being lights out.

The Guardians wake up this morning to once again find themselves with the best record in MLB. That record will certainly be tested for the remainder of the season with series' against 4 current first place teams plus the Twins and Royals. Throw in defending WS champion Texas, Cincy, St. Louis & Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh is really struggling right now and the White Sox are having one of the worst seasons in MLB history but are .500 against the Guardians. Those are two teams they probably should beat but that's why they play the games. All in all a tough schedule the remainder of the season.

GO GUARDS!

Gotta get the bats going. Brennan's had a couple knocks but overall the bats have been pretty quiet tonight. Not Williams' best outing but it's not out of hand. Up to the bullpen to stop the bleeding now.

Non-baseball fun observation: that Fonz statue they showed in Milwaukee literally looks nothing like him. Why are statues likenesses of their intended subjects almost universally so terrible?

The HBP by Mr. Williams with 2 out and a 2 strike count on Contreres was a mistake that cost him 3 runs in that first inning putting the Guards in a hole immediately. The bullpen did its job with 4 innings of hitless baseball but the Guardians couldn't do anything with Civale, have to give him credit. Jose and company still made it interesting in the 8th but it wasn't enough. Forget that one and go out and get them today with Mr. Bibee going.

GO GUARDS!

Of course Civale shows up throwing BB's against the Guardians. At the end of his time in Cleveland last year, he had lost some control and was giving up the long ball . So of course he has to pitch lights out against us last night! Funny game is baseball.

Definitely do not like losing ground to the Twins and Royals on a Bibee start, especially when he pitched well, but I think it hurt more last night to get shut down by Civale. Desperately need to salvage something in MIL with a win tomorrow.

All I can say is, I'm glad they played tonight's game so those 2 yutzes in the broadcast booth could spend half the game talking about the mascot race around the field. All kidding aside, I missed Underwood and Manning for tonight's game.

I was thinking 3-3 would be just fine on the trip to Milwaukee and Yankee Stadium. They would have to take 3 of 4 to do it now. Tough, but getting the win tomorrow is huge.

It wasn't bad enough that they talked about the sausage race for that one entire half inning but they also had the camera on them in the booth while they talked about it. Forget that the game was being played we need to show these two while they talk about it.

I don't know about you guys but I was a little disappointed that Cade Smith didn't knock Contreras on his backside for all his antics on the base path after hitting the HR off Bibee. I think that was Contreras' next AB after the HR. Smith did strike him out but I think he should have at least been sent a message that that BS is unacceptable. Too old school?

The Brewers have pitched really well in the first two games. Hopefully the Guards can avoid the sweep today but Mr. Rea has been tough on the mound also for the Brewers. We shall see.

Yeah. This, and the typical condescending comments we have to deal with from national broadcast teams every time ("that Jose Ramirez, he's really good!!") are what make me tend to hate the non-Bally games. Then we had to hear about all the adversity the Brewers have had and what a great job their mgr has done. Nothing about Vogt, the loss of Bieber or the loss of 3/5ths of our starting rotation this year. The anti-Cleveland bias is sickening.

Guardians might get no hit today if they don't get something going soon. Man they are in a drought right now. One rn in 14 innings isn't going to get you very far.

What a embarrassing weekend of baseball Yankees might sweep them too.i told you. This team would collapse. Be lucky to make the playoffs.

If the Guardians don't hit any better than they did against the Brewers they very well may get swept by the Yankees also. The Guards actually pitched well enough to win that series, meaning Bibee and Lively in games 2 & 3 of course, but the Brewers pitching just shut down the Guardians' offense. It's hard to win any series when you only score 4 runs total. Hopefully they can regroup with the off day and do a better job offensively in NY. Bring on the Yankees.

It was fun to start so fast, but right now I think I’d trade that fast start for the trajectory of the Dbacks, Padres or Twins. The feeling of fading down the stretch is a bit depressing, but we all know it’s a long season and the Guardians are another winning stretch away from everyone being happy again. Still, I fear the psychological blow to the team, and lift to the Twins, if the Guardians drop into second place.

It is a "Blue Monday" (you Foreigner fans) in Cleveland following the weekend sweep by Milwaukee and headed into the sausage grinder that is Yankee Stadium. Fortunately for the Guardians, when things have looked the bleakest is usually when the team has performed better than expected. I hope that is the case starting tomorrow. Let's plug in the bats and hope for the best against the Yankees.

There is a very simple solution to that problem, don't drop into second place. Simple. Let's move on to the playoffs now please. :)

Hopefully the Padres can help the Guardians out with the Twins starting today. As you noted above the Padres are playing good baseball right now. I'm hoping for the best with the Angels against KC but I seriously doubt that LA will give Cleveland much help in that series.

Was thinking about Estevan Florio and Myles Straw today. Both still hacking away in Cbus in anonymity. Feels like eons since either was in the big leagues. Remember when they thought Florio was the answer in CF in March/April?

Also saw where Zac Plesac was released by the Angels about a week ago If there's a young pitcher who's fallen farther, faster I'd like to know who that pitcher is (except Bauer).

Anyone else notice that the resident idiot had 4 or 5 negative posts earlier, and now they are all deleted? What a goober that guy is.

They announcers both agreed they feel Jose is on a path to Cooperstown. That's about as lofty as praise can get. And on most national broadcasts they acknowledge how good Jose is and they always say they don't understand why he's so underrated by MLB fans. That's easy. The G's are rarely on national games. How many Guardians fans know how good Ketel Marte is, for example?

Padres did their part, so far. I would sure hate to face their staff in a short playoff series.

Yes sir, that Padres staff is tough. I'm hoping they sweep the Twins, and of course the Guardians have to do their part by starting to win some series again, but as I have posted before I am more worried about KC than I am Minnesota. Even last year when the Guardians finished 10 games under .500 and the Twins won the division the Guards won the season series between the two. Cleveland has already won the season series with the Twins this year at 7-2 so far. The Guards are only 2-4 against KC right now with 7 games to play. They can still win the season series but have to take 5 out of those 7 to do so, possible of course but unlikely IMO. I do think KC has a tougher remaining schedule than the Twins do.

First and foremost the Guards have to start scoring some runs to give themselves a chance to be competitive. Historically facing the Yankees, especially in Yankee Stadium, has been tough on the Guardians, difficult to win games there but they need to start hitting to at least keep themselves in the games and see if they can steal a couple from the Yanks.

GO GUARDS!

I cannot believe that Kwan swung at that pitch. That pitch was so bad I just can't believe he swung at it. It should have been bases loaded nobody out instead of course after the strikeout they walk Jose and then Naylor hits into the DP. They have now left 16 men on base tonight. Unbelievable.
