Cleveland Guardians

They staked Mr. Allen a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. By the 4th he turned that into a 4-3 deficit. If they have any designs on winning this game then can't let him come back out for the 5th. KC is hitting rockets off of him.
At some point they stopped being able to beat good teams. About the time of the Padres series. The days of winning series against teams like the Orioles and Phillies seem to be over.

I think they still can with their top of the rotation guys but they certainly can't with these up from the minor league pitchers.

The Schneemann HR that tied it at 4-4 will probably mean Allen will get at least one more inning.

And the Perez HR is what they get for letting Allen come back out. 5-4 KC. As I said they are crushing the ball off of him.

Wow. Perez hits a bomb. YTOWN, you were saying? Get Allen out of there while this is still a game.

What can you do? They are going to have to outslug KC tonight to win this game and I don't like the odds on that. I know Vogt is up against it with the injuries to the starting rotation and he has limited options there and he is trying to save the pen but they need to at least split this series. To keep trotting Allen out there they way the Royals are hammering him is just begging for trouble.

I’m getting close to a full Brian meltdown and losing complete faith in this team. It just feels like the total collapse is happening.

Gentlemen,

I have to ask this. In the first game tied at 3 in the 8th we didn't see Cade Smith for whatever reason. They let Gaddis pitch to Bobby Witt in that 8th inning. Now, in a 9-4 game in the 8th inning, we see Mr. Smith appear. Why now? Why not in game 1?

They probably had each inning slotted for certain pitchers in the first game, since it was a so-called bullpen game.

This being baseball, however, they could win tomorrow and Wednesday, get the series split where KC gains no ground, and all will be right in the world. Let’s hope.

I will say, I'm not sure I understand the decision to start Allen in Game 2 tonight but I guess there are only so many starter options at this point in the season. Still, the dude's known for giving up the long ball and you're facing Witt, Perez, and company, I don't get the decision.

Makes you think that McKenzie is probably not a sure thing to even be healthy to start next season.

Not til he gets the surgery that had seemed to be there for a year. Amazing how pitching depth can shift 180 so quick.

Then looked at batting averages. Yikes pretty much across board

The team seems to have gotten away from what was working well for them earlier in the season offensively. Working the count, being patient, not swinging at bad pitches, etc. Smart running on the basepaths. Taking the extra base when they can. Some of that's still there, but now the plate discipline doesn't seem to be as good as it was pre-All Star break. I wonder if they've gotten slightly home-run happy and are looking for the big inning more than used to be the case, and it's backfired on them.

As a fan, I know I have fallen into the trap of "Jose/Josh is up, let's see if they can crank one and get us back in this" more than used to be the case.

Yes sir. They really need Williams to win today to give Bibee a chance at salvaging the split tomorrow.

While I still think pitching to Witt Jr. in the 8th inning of a tie game was stupid, in fairness, the Royals made two excellent defensive plays to win game 1 yesterday. If they don't make those two plays I think the Guardians would have won that game in spite of that decision.

GO GUARDS!

Must win game tonight...I am wearing my orange t shirt and Browns hat up to the bar tonight as I transition sports focus.

I have no idea why Barlow is on this team. He is a gas can. I posted yesterday that Kwan would be below .300 by next weekend. Looks like it will happen tomorrow. Same with predicting Fry would be in the .250s. Could happen by tomorrow, as well.

This team is finished.
