I'm not saying I have seen every AB of Swan's career but I have seen a majority of them and that was far and away the worst pitch I have ever seen him swing at. I was shocked because it is so uncharacteristic of him. Up until that pitch he was having a very good AB. He fouled off several 2-strike pitches, took ball 3 and then on that 3-2 count inexplicably swung at that ridiculously bad pitch that would have been ball 4 and loaded the bases, no outs. That strikeout and what followed in that inning are indicative of how the Guards have been playing of late. Tell the truth, you thought it was over after that inning didn't you? I know I did. I thought sure NY would score in the bottom half to win.
I agree that teams will, although I can't see many teams walking Soto to get to Judge, as often as the game situation allows at least. If you can keep the Yankees in the park, easier said than done of course, but if you can they are eminently beatable.
The bottom of the 10th inning last night was a perfect example. Tied at 3, Soto led off and hit a ground ball to the right side for the 1st out moving the "automatic" runner to 3rd where he represented the winning run. The Guardians immediately walked Judge, which I'm sure they would have done even if the run he represented wasn't irrelevant in this case. They got out of the inning.
In the 12th the Guardians struck Soto out with 2 on nobody out and pitched to Judge because they had a 6-run lead. Judge doubled in both runners but it was far from enough. Final, 9-5 Guardians.
