Cleveland Guardians

They really need to split this series. If they lose all 4 and drop to 2nd, that might be too rough
Not to mention the ton of games against the Royals coming up too. Chasing down one team can be tough. Chasing down two teams would probably be too much for this group. Can’t get behind.

The "best team in baseball" about to be 3rd in their own division.

Lane Thomas continues to be clutch.

Already seeing stories of the Guardians trading Thomas by next year. Not a hater, I liked the move, but in reality so far it feels like another Donaldson- type dud, minus the a-hole factor of course. Less than 2 weeks into the deal, it doesn't bode well for either party.

That was a big win. They needed that to stop the bleeding and more importantly to give them a chance to split the series with Mr. Bibee tomorrow. A great job by Gavin Williams and the "A" bullpen guys.

Huge win! This is what we need from Williams down the stretch. Need Bibee to be sharp tomorrow and get the split. Then no real damage done and the Twins would gain no ground in the standings.

Agreed. A win today would also give the Guardians the season series win and with that the tie-breaker if necessary.

The last two innings certainly were not pretty but I'll take the 5-3 win and the split, which gives them the season series win already at 7-2 against the Twins. Mr. Clase gets out of a bases loaded no out situation in the 9th without giving up a run. Why Vogt brought Sandlin in to pitch to Buxton in the 8th is puzzling to me but I assume he must have liked him better than Gaddis against Buxton. I don't see it. That would have been a devastating loss after leading 5-1 with 2 outs in the 8th. Great job salvaging the split after losing the first two. Bring on the Cubs.

My head scratcher moment was when they had Fry bunt in I think the 9th with 2 men on and nobody out..why? Twins get the easy DP and it essentially takes the Guardians out of what felt like could have been another explosive inning. I don't understand the decision-making but I guess that is why I'm sitting at home and not in the dugout. Admit I dropped a few salty expletives at that move.

I really think he did that on his own for some reason. If it was Hedges or one of the other .200 hitters at the plate I would say it was the right call but I do think Fry did it on his own. I don't think Vogt would have had his #5 hitter bunting but that's speculation on my part. All's well that ends well.

Got the series spilt, which has to be deflating for the Twins. They gained no ground and now have to deal with KC.

As for the Guardians, it seems Gavin Williams is finding his groove, Bibee is still the ace, Lively keeps you in every game and if Cobb or Boyd show any promise then we actually have a rotation. Get two of three from the Cubs at home!

A few weeks ago I posted that I was more concerned about the Royals catching the Guards than the Twins. I have not changed my mind about that so I think I have to pull for the Twins to take 2 of 3 from KC in this upcoming series. The Guards have had the Twins number for the last few years, usually very close games but with the Guardians ultimately winning. This year is no different with Cleveland taking 7 of 9 so far. It's difficult to catch a team when you can't beat them head-to-head. Hopefully that continues and the Guards can knock off the Royals as well down the stretch.

I'm not defending Barlow's performance as he has been stinking up the place his last several appearances but in fairness if Roccio doesn't bobble that weak ground ball making his throw late to first the inning would have been over with no runs scored, Guards still up 8-3. Have to either hold on now or better yet add on.

I hear ya but he hit a guy on a 3-2 count and he didn’t fool anybody tonight.

He’s a junkballer.

True but that's who he is. Why did Vogt lift Herrin with 2 on and 2 down to bring in Barlow? The bottom line is Barlow induced a weak ground ball and if Roccio makes that play, I'm not saying it was an easy play but if he makes the play cleanly the inning is over, 8-3. After that it's definitely on Barlow though. And now I'm just hoping Sandlin can get out of the inning at 8-8.

Vogt out thinks himself once or twice a week

I just don’t understand why Barlow is on the team. He clearly is past whatever prime he had. Sandlin, I don’t like, but he’s not as unreliable as Barlow. Either way, that’s on Vogt for using these gas cans so much. I’d be complaining to Antonetti to get something better.

Lane Thomas with a double! This guy is so clutch.

Check that...that's a double play grounder.
Always liked him. Still like the trade, but he’s been in a monster slump since the trade. Hopefully that means he’s due for a monster hot streak.

Once more into the breach for Mr. Clase, up 9-8. I hope he is sharper than last night but this is his 3rd game in a row. He threw a lot of pitches last night.

GO GUARDS!

THE closer was definitely sharper than last night. He just blew those last two hitters away. Great job by the offense and Mr. Clase. 70th win for the Guards and they have to pick up a game on the loser of the Twins-Royals game.

GO GUARDS!
