Western Buckeye League Playoff Picks & Discussion Thread

(6-4) Bowling Green at Defiance (6-4)
(4-6) Franklin at Wapak (10-0)
(7-3) Miami Trace at St. Marys (8-2)
(6-4) Celina at McNicholas (8-2)
(5-5) O-G
at Galion (7-3)
(3-7) Elida at Shelby (10-0)
(5-5) Bath
at Carlisle (5-5)

OG-Galion the toughest game to predict imo. OG's been up and down from the highs of knocking off Celina and competing close with St Marys, to the surprising loss to Van Wert and uninspiring performance against Defiance. I'd like to see them pull the "upset" here though (upset in terms of seeding). I feel like Celina is certainly capable of winning too, but I'm not sure that they'll have the same playoff magic as last year's team. The rest of the games seem pretty straightforward. It would certainly be disappointing if any of the WBL teams hosting lost in the first round.

Defiance and St. Marys are going to stream their games on their YouTube channels (Defiance Community Television and Rider Nation Station) - are any other games going to be streamed?

Edit - I do see the Celina and O-G games are listed on the streaming link at the top of the football forum.

McNick with big unsportsmanlike penalty. Celina with the ball down to the McNick 8 yard line, early 2nd.

Celina offense with 3 false starts which has hurt drives. Celina with a FG with 9:58 left in 2nd.

Rockets 7
Bulldogs 3

Celina punts it back to McNick after a big sack. McNick taking it back over on their 41. 6:53 left in 2nd.

Absolutely dominating first quarter for Defiance, up 24-0. Wilder already has over 100 yards of offense himself, and 3 TDs. BG had the worst punt snap I've ever seen result in a safety, one first down, a 15 yard punt, and a defensive player lined up a yard or more offside and no one said anything to him.

Celina punted with 1:38 left in half. McNick ball at 44 yard line.

Celina to receive 2nd half kickoff.

McNick run down into Celina territory, but a hold brings it back to the Celina 33 with 1:21 left in half.

McNick running it hard, pass isn’t great. Celina with 4-5 close interceptions. 1:08 left in half, 4th down for McNick.

McNick completes pass for a 1st down.

McNick TD with under a minute

Rockets 21
Bulldogs 3

Celina doesn’t want it tonight.

Gonna be a running clock in Defiance, up 31-0 after throwing an INT in the end zone just before the half ended. Bulldogs averaged about 4 or 5 plays each TD drive and punted once, and in the first quarter had several receptions with no defender within 15 yards. BG has 2 or 3 first downs and more injured players than first downs, and about 6 penalties.

Final

McNick 35
Celina 3

Celina plays flat, McNick runs all over us. Sad to see it end that way.

Defiance over Bowling Green, 28-7
Wapak over Franklin, 42-7
St Marys over Miami Trace, 42-14
McNicholas over Celina, 31-21
O-G over Galion, 28-21
Shelby over Elida, 49-21
Bath over Carlisle, 42-21

I'm taking the WBL going 5-2 in round 1. I think Bath and Wapak SHOULD have deep playoff runs.
I think St Marys COULD have a deep playoff run.
Celina is a spoiler threat. Bowling Green just got blasted 49-0 by 5-5 Fremont Ross. If Defiance plays well they'll win by a few scores.
OG I think defensively wins the battle.
Bath is better than Carslile by a few scores in my opinion. Toughest schedule in D5. Schedule adjusted they'd be the 1 seed in R20.
Wapak is Wapak. Will they make it to the regional final? By my estimation, yes - will they break their state curse? Who knows.
Pretty accurate I would say (including the score of the Shelby-Elida game)!
