The Irish earned the right to another shot at Hoban with a hard fought 21-14 victory over Fitch tonight.

It will have been 5 weeks since these two squads faced off in week 8 at Green Street - a 28-14 Hoban victory.

I am sure the Irish will enter this game with their confidence in the stratosphere. Based on what transpired then, any questions they may had if they can hang with the Knights were put to bed. They KNOW they belong, and will give Hoban another terrific challenge.

It will NOT be easy. Hoban is still the defending state champ, and the odds on favorite to repeat.

But it the Irish take a good healthy look in the mirror, they will see if they cut out the self inflicted mistakes from 5 weeks ago, they can do this.

I guarantee everyone this - intensity will not be lacking from either team next Friday. This will be a good old fashioned slobber knocker of a game.

Hoban is not the defending state champ...

I agree Clark, the Irish will need to play a perfect game. It's the only way they give themselves a real shot in this game.

But I suffer from eternal optimism. If we control our mistakes, make intelligent play calls, and maybe catch a break or two from the Knights......

Stranger things have happened.

Well Saint Edwards is not next week's opponent this time around for Hoban. I don't think the game will be as close this time around.

All week leading up to the Fitch game everyone said St. V's would turn the ball over. They did not and they forced three turnovers by Fitch and they got a muffed punt. St. V's running backs are really good. I like how they ran a counter that got Fitch's speed going one way and then they cut it back. That led to the score that tied. I think that will work well against a team like Hoban. Number 71 for St. V's is an absolutely beast. That kid made so many plays. When they go back and watch the film, they are going to see that he prevented at least two long scores by Fitch because if he didn't make the stop, Fitch's running back and QB would have been gone. St. V's task is simple: stop Hoban's running back. The problem is that is almost impossible. They need to at least contain him. Keep hims around a hundred yards and to two scores. I don't know who 71 is, but kid, you know what you got to do again. Hey if St. V's plays a clean game like they played against Fitch, they can win. They turned it over multiple times against Hoban, and they were still in the game. This should be a battle.
