What is your infatuation with Indiana HS football coaches? And why would you think they would uproot their families and good public school paying jobs to move 5+ hours away. I am sure they are good options but seems unrealistic. Do they have an Akron or STVM connection? Next HC needs to be involved and have connections to the Irish community.I believe stvm should go after these Two Indiana proven coaches again. They should reapply for the job again. I also think they should look down south every coach in the south knows what it takes to win and build a program we need to solidify stvm 7th 8th championship
Brownsburg head coach John heart 99-22 he one dozens of conference championships and won 6a championships
Gibson southern - nick hart Since he was hired in 2012, Hart owns a 91-19 record in nine years at Gibson Southern. He sparked an instant turnaround with the Titans, earning three sectional and regional titles (2012, 2013, 2015) and five PAC championships.
1. I was told that Nick hart was second to get the Job behind nickolWhat is your infatuation with Indiana HS football coaches? My point exactly stvm has to aggressive with this search or the quality of this program will be a thing of the past. Listen as much as I would love to see someone who played for John cistone or Dan boarman but It shouldn’t be enough to just be associated with the Irish or know of somebody who was an alumni there.for example why do you think Nickol didn’t work out? @Browns1434 If I was a part of hiring the coach I wouldn’t give a damn if he was from space if he had a track record of being successful then I’m hiring him with zero questions.Certainly, a connection to the history of Irish football would be beneficial, but given the current state of affairs of Summit County football the new hire has to be as much a salesman as a top notch football coach. He needs to be able to convince kids and their parents that SVSM is the best place for them to come play football, over places like Hoban and Walsh. Certainly, it's nice to have old state championship trophies and alums like Parris Campbell and Frank Stams but those things aren't going to bring kids to Green Street.
If the school is content with some also ran or never been and mediocre records like the last 6 or 7 years, so be it. They'll be destined to get the leftovers after Walsh and Hoban.
Legit Candidates: Larlham, Doran Grant, Marcus WattleyDoes anyone know any rumored candidates?
Steve Fasig probably won't get the job a kid died on his watch two months into the jobLegit Candidates: Larlham, Doran Grant, Marcus Wattley
Outsider/Looking In: Mike Kagafas, Gary Shadie, Sian Cotton, Steve Fasig

...and do they really want to revisit getting a Barberton assistant?Steve Fasig probably won't get the job a kid died on his watch two months into the job
That was the question I had. I see Doran Grant is DC at Elyria Catholic.Has Sian Cotton been an assistant in recent years?
EC was 3-7 this year after going 8-2 in 2022, fyi...and do they really want to revisit getting a Barberton assistant?

Coach lodge needs to be gone our defense didn’t keep us in any of our later gamesHow many coaches on the current staff are good enough to be asked to stay with a new outside guy?
Question need attention if that is the route since you still need a very good staff besides just an HC?
A few of the coaches HC or assistants need to have some experience also, not a bunch of newbies?
Just because a guy was a good player in HS or college doesn't automatically = quality coach either.
Food for thought?
I think Mike Kagafas should be on your legit candidate list.Legit Candidates: Larlham, Doran Grant, Marcus Wattley

This past year for sure, and I think last year as well.Has Sian Cotton been an assistant in recent years?
Think the best route is someone that has experience coaching in the Catholic School System and knows how to interact and get the right kids in the buildingdo you think stvm should go after Justin buttermore he’s turned around many programs around Ohio he was the head coach for Tri-valley in 2017 his overall career record is 178-64 he always had his teams in contention no matter what no excuses I think stvm should contact him and show long term commitment.
I like your enthusiasm, man, but I don’t know if you are aware of the reality of STVM football, and the school, overall, right now.do you think stvm should go after Justin buttermore he’s turned around many programs around Ohio he was the head coach for Tri-valley in 2017 his overall career record is 178-64 he always had his teams in contention no matter what no excuses I think stvm should contact him and show long term commitment.
My question is why would a middle aged guy with a family and a good STRS job in a solid community two hours away want to uproot his family and come to a struggling program in a city with which he has no familiarity without STRS benefits and for likely lower pay?do you think stvm should go after Justin buttermore he’s turned around many programs around Ohio he was the head coach for Tri-valley in 2017 his overall career record is 178-64 he always had his teams in contention no matter what no excuses I think stvm should contact him and show long term commitment.

The deadline is this MondayIs the deadline this month or next month
Well i understand that but haven’t stvm done that before with boarman and they just did that with Cistone and Stvm is at a point of the program where they just need someone who can bring any type of success and has a proven track record everyone wants to compare and talk about bringing in someone like Tim tyrell who can recruit but I don’t want the program possibly hiring a coach who is unproven at the same time like issue with Bobby nickol was he couldn’t recruit. Buttermore recruits everywhere he goesMy question is why would a middle aged guy with a family and a good STRS job in a solid community two hours away want to uproot his family and come to a struggling program in a city with which he has no familiarity without STRS benefits and for likely lower pay?
Boarman was able to come back to his alma mater where he had played, coached and taught for decades and where his father had been an institution. He was also living in the area and was allowed to keep his public school STRS job while he coached at SVSM. That is a very different situation.Well i understand that but haven’t stvm done that before with boarman and they just did that with Cistone and Stvm is at a point of the program where they just need someone who can bring any type of success and has a proven track record everyone wants to compare and talk about bringing in someone like Tim tyrell who can recruit but I don’t want the program possibly hiring a coach who is unproven at the same time like issue with Bobby nickol was he couldn’t recruit. Listen I love the idea of Wattley coming back and I also like Kagafas coming back he was a good coach and he really helped me a lot when I played for him but if stvm hires him and he doesn’t bring in players that’s going to put us back in contention then we are going to have another long season of no results.Boarman was able to come back to his alma mater where he had played, coached and taught for decades and where his father had been an institution. Wow this is SPOT ON!! Very truthful and unfortunate assessment of the current state of affairs (admin-wise) at SVSM.I like your enthusiasm, man, but I don’t know if you are aware of the reality of STVM football, and the school, overall, right now.
From my understanding, the Irish alumni/boosters aren’t stepping up to the plate as those at Hoban and Walsh are. Facilities matter, weight rooms matter, and money matters. Did you see what STVM was offering as a salary for a coach BEFORE they amended the post? You’re just not going to get the quality candidates for that type of position with what they are offering financially, and without a position in the building?
If I were running this search I would go after Kagafas with an offer he could not refuse, as he checks all boxes the Irish SHOULD BE looking for as their next HC. I have little faith in the admin, as if the Hoban situation is any indicator as to how the school is being run, you’re probably going to end up with Larlham by default. Make no mistake, I’m not saying that as a negative, but STVM should be able to do better.
It sucks that this is the situation the Irish find themselves in, but it is what it is. I wish the Irish the best of luck in their search.
