SVSM Irish 2024

Short term hire = short sighted administration. A declining program doesn't need a placeholder.

Building a program is about continuity and building something that will make kids want to come to your school. Hiring a 60 year old with very limited success as a head coach is contrary to this and produces the results we've seen, regardless of the last name of the hire.

You are 100% correct. That was the year Barberton and Stvm played for the first time in decades and Nichols was the OC. Stvm had no answer for his offense. He interviewed very well.
Yeah plus he was closer to bring in they didn’t want to wait days for their head coach to take days for him to get their but screw that… I don’t care if it takes 40 days and nights for the next head coach to get here as long as he good for the kids and gets the right staff behind him to have long term success.

What are you talking about?

31-15 as a head coach with never missing the playoffs in 4 years (before they expanded to 16 team) and took the Irish to the State semi-finals.

He only left St V because of a great opportunity at the college level.
Great? That is not why he left.

Pretty petty outlook when you don't really know him or his Family personally, nor have you probably ever coached with him up close to know what your opinion is based on but other rumors and accusations!
Ok. So why was he let go from CVCA? If you truly know, then you know it’s a consideration.

I don’t think you understood my point. I think he’s certainly deserving of a chance… he’s a great coach. I just also think he’s going to be scrutinized (like he is). Is that unfair?
Unfair would be to presume that whatever it is being thrown around unnamed "faults" without defense of the man's overall character!

Fyi, currently in practice he is only the qb coach, not the OC, at CVca he was OC and developed an asst to take that over starting year 2, at Walsh he was OC a few years and DC the last2-4 yrs there.

The reality is STVM is in a way worse position now than when they hired Coach Nickol. All of the hoopla surrounding the Hoban fiasco, the rise of Walsh, and the state of Summit, and surrounding counties, football has seismically shifted in the last 5-7 years, and the Irish haven’t adapted well to the times. If they want to win again, they need to let the HC they hire have free reign over the program, give him 10-12 “free rides” a year - wether it be from foundation or EdChoice 💰💰💰, and not handcuff the process. Is Sasala and CO willing to let that happen? We shall see.

Funny thing is that "politics" keep coming up with a claim of kids with the right names being played. 45 years ago much of the same was said when a kid got started at QB that some thought was not the best player at the position. That kid's name was....drumroll....Terry Cistone. Oh how things come full cycle.

I did not know that!

Then hire JR!

They are probably going to look at one person from the staff and that is going to be Dan larlham but my guess is they are going to cast wide net and they are going to take their time.

Well, Larlham would be the easy choice, but maybe not the best choice. Unfortunately, the landscape of HS sports today is to make the easy choice.

Dude, chill out. In the same way I want a coach to hold kids accountable, I want the coach to lead the way in accountability. And yes I think people deserve second third and fourth chances, but this kind of scrutiny is earned based on his actions. He is accountable to them. Time will tell for him but right now, it’s ok for there to be some questions marks.
Amen to this. It wasn't meant to be personal, and if these guys read it that way, that's on them.

This was a simple opinion that SVSM can't afford to take the risk. Regardless of what did or did not happen, the fact remains that he was let go for some cause or reason.

hsfan60, relax. I'm sorry if you are tied to this personally, but I'm not. I'm just looking at it objectively.

Needs to be a total tear-down and rebuild at this point. No one on staff is worthy of taking this program over. If you think the current AD will have any say in the process, you don't know how SVSM works. The AD will organize applications, schedule interviews, and probably reserve the conference room for interviews. But unfortunately, the board will make the decision. Which is unfortunately how they got into this position in the first place. Look at the turnover at that place in recent years. They can't get anything right (coaches, admin, principals, etc) which is why Walsh and Hoban are now light years ahead of SVSM, it's sad really.

Larlahm will obviously be interested but that is a lazy hire. Expect Doran Grant to sniff this job (no experience). They should bring back Dan Boarman and ask him to lead the search committee and conduct the interviews. No one has had the success that Dan has had in this modern age of HS football (the recruiting age). I think even Dan would admit that Larlham is not what we need right now. He would likely only promote Marcus Wattley of any SVSM re-tread.

Board makes the decisions. Sasala will be there but he's not the decision maker. They need to get this right. Don't trust them to do so. Wonder what a realistic timeline is for the decision

Interesting name with no real SVSM connections - Shaq Washington at Maple Heights.

He would be a hell of a hire for that program and reinvigorate the roster and recruiting.

May be tough to pull him away from his hometown team, but SVSM is a clear step up from Maple Heights.
