Sports Cards

Ironically and I don't know if this is in bad taste but that Rams player (Darryl Henley) is in prison for being a drug dealer and trying to hire a hitman to assassinate a judge.

I wonder if that picture is real or did they photoshop it. That was the year he got busted and they would have had plenty of time to make this card. Almost looks like a troll job years before internet trolls became popular.

Approximate prices:

'92 Upper Deck MLB ($35)
'94 Pinnacle NHL - tough to say without more information (Hockey goes in two year increments...ie 93-94 or 94-95) guessing $70
'95 Pinnacle Series I & II MLB ($60/$60)
'95 Action Packed NFL ($50)
'95 Pinnacle Winston Cup Stars ($35)
'95 Action Packed NHRA (??)

I bought these in 1991. The top two are commemorative MLB deck of playing card from US Playing Card The bottom two I thought would go up in value because they were unique It’s two complete sets of 792 Topps 40th Anniversary cards in miniature size. They have not gone up in value LOL

This Ken Griffey Jr’s 1989 Topps. I’m not sure if it is considered his rookie card or not. It’s encased in plastic the lighting for my picture makes it look faded but it’s not

I have two of these complete sets of Fleer’s 10th anniversary addition. Again they didn’t go up in value either. LOL

Unfortunately, I think 1991 is the peak of overproduction.

The Griffey is a RC. Not too high priced but still a cool card.

Yea the late 80’s and early 90’s were not the best time to get interested. I have 1991 Fleer set and Topps ‘88 and ‘89 none of those complete sets are worth much.

Karl Rhodes was a local kid from Cincinnati everyone thought he was going to be a real star. They kept saying Dan Wilson was the next Johnny Bench. 😂

Yappi, what are the “Traded” series type cards? I just noticed my Griffey card is number 41T and I have these two never opened boxes.

Both those suffer from the same over production. The Fleer set is better because it has a Frank Thomas RC that goes for a couple bucks.

My biggest sale ever on the site for $28.49. Can't cash out yet but I'll roll it into more cards on the site.

Sports cards and mainly baseball were very popular with kids years ago every kid I grew up had a shoe box of them. I might be missing something but I feel that time has past and will never return. We now have cell phones and computers that seem to be the most important. Old things, antiques , collectibles and so forth have lost the interest of young and a lot of old.

I should have added the fact that my mom threw out my cards that had Maris, Mantle and my most favorite player Larry Doby

Yappi I keep bouncing these off you hoping you’ll ring the bell on one and tell me I hit a jackpot. 😂

Thank all the Moms that wanted to keep a neat house. That is why those old cards are valuable.

No thanks to those moms. Grandpa collected some cards and then would buy some for me when I got to be 6-7 yo and liked baseball. I remember his Mantle, Mays, Clemente, Gibson etc cards. I know I had a Ozzie Smith, Willie Stargell and Jim Rice rookie cards to name a few. Then his daughter (my mom) cleaned out his closet after he passed and all our cards went bye-bye. Thanks mom

It’s a packet of cards that’s never been opened. I guess the whole group has 330 cards. There are 33 cards in this package.

1986 Topps Quaker Chewy Granola Bars - Food Issue [Base] #17 - Fernando Valenzuela

Less than a $1. Another cool card but there are so many cards and so many stars from that time period. I actually have a bunch of these oddball cards of big stars that I thought were going to be worth alot but they were all similar to this Valenzuela card.

As @I enjoy wrestling posted about breaking for sports cards, has anyone tried this? I haven't tried it but it seems to be very popular.
I've joined a few breaks....so the lore is that you get an opportunity to get cards from hobby boxes (usually) without spending $250+ on the box. You can buy a random team, or sometimes pick your team. The downside is, usually the breakers are doing multiple boxes which drives the price up. Lots of these are over $100 per TEAM. So you could end up with nothing....or maybe a couple base cards only....I rarely see them pan out for more than 1 person really. Again, gambling - it's basically playing the lottery.

Went through an old box of cards I had. I didnt find anything worth much, but this card was a pretty cool finding.

Yes, but the hits can be unreal. People are buying into these breaks from around the world. They are breaking cards all over the world.

100%...if you hit, it can pan out for sure. The first break I ever joined was a buddy of mine last year....he had something like 8 prizm football blasters. Teams were like $15-20 each. I jumped in for $35 for 2 teams...it was fine, but I didn't get $35 worth of cards back. The only one where it panned out, was I bought into a break of Select Football last year, didn't spend much but ended up getting a Tyreke Hill Zebra Stripe Diecut. Sold it for $80.

Joined a break about 2 weeks ago, was 8 Don Russ football blasters, was hunting for crunch time and downtowns....I spent around $55 on I think 4 teams....I literally got nothing, bunch of base cards and a couple $2 inserts. Was a waste of money - this is why I'd rather just take the $55 and go buy 2 blaster boxes....at least I get to keep all the cards
