PAC 2023

Feeling kinda embarrassed by all the high falutentness being shared on this thread.
I had to look up falutent.

I met TopCat. He's a celebrity. Sort of. No, really.
Stizostedion finally gets one right, Topcat is a celebrity, but he won't acknowledge it.

My best celebrity encounter was a series of meetings in 1981 with members of the Cleveland Browns. I was working as an intern buyer (20 years old at the time) for O'Neil's in the downtown Akron store and they had a weekly "Dinner with the Browns" in the sixth floor penthouse. My job was to meet the players at the parking garage door and escort them to the sixth floor. I forget everyone that came through, but it did include Ozzie Newsome (classy guy), Joe Delamielleure, both Pruitts, Ricky Feacher (not the sharpest stick in the bundle), and my favorite Doug Dieken. Dieken had an absolutely bone crushing handshake.

And then there was the time I met Miranda Lambert, but enough for now .....

Wendy's.

Wendy's has square shaped burgers because they don't cut corners just as we don't cut corners in #PACtion.

You don't get a league where Mogadore and their famous poster Wildcat 71 are throwing themselves at PACtion by cutting corners.

You don't get a Yappi thread like this by cutting corners.

PACtion, much like a Wendy's double, is in serious friggin demand.

Then you have the rumors typed out by Stizo and the analogy with the aftermath of Wendy's chili.**

I have my own Doug Dieken story. When I was working at WAKR/TV-23 back in 1984 we used to go to a place over on E. Market Street by Goodyear that stayed open almost all night. I can't recall the name of the place, but it had an upstairs bar and you could get gyros there. We went because it was open after the 11:00 p.m. newscast and you could get something to eat. One night in July of 1984 we all went in there and at the bar sat a huge individual who bore a very strong resemblance to Doug Dieken. I sat next to him and asked if he was Doug Dieken. He gave me a very lengthy reply that he couldn't possibly be Doug Dieken because that would have meant that Doug Dieken had snuck out of Browns training camp to go out drinking. A little later he came clean and told me had known about this particular bar for a while and that he needed a break from the rigors of training camp and just wanted to drink some beer. That was when Browns training camp was held at Lakeland Community College, and he couldn't go out up there for fear that a coach or staffer would spot him. He was very funny and a pleasure to talk with. Fast forward to the next day and the Browns reported that Dieken had sat out practice with an unspecified injury.

It was called Dubl Tyme...the owner opened one in the Belden Village area...here is a picture and why the people were protesting the place..lol

In my search of trying to remember how they spelled Dubl Tyme....I found this amazing book....man this brought back a lot of memories. Some of you PACtion legends will find this quite interesting.....you will see restaurants that are not around anymore.

Holy crap. Got thru 5 pages before I realized I'm about to be completely unproductive today. Well done, Streak!

Your day will be even more unproductive....I found the Dubl Tyme info here....there is even more history...lol.

The Lake posters have found it easier to just call me BSO.....I don't know if their use of the acronym has a different meaning..lol

Visiting another thread looks like the 2023 divisional assignments are out. Not quite as top heavy as the last few years (which should help Fairless' schedule look better):
D3 - CVCA
D4 - Canton S, NW
D5 - Fairless, Manchester, Orrville, Triway
D6 - Tuslaw

This book is amazing and I don't even know where to begin, but alas.....

If there wasn't at least ONE meeting of the PACtion leadership over the years at Anthe's at the Lakes on Manchester Road hosted by Koach himself, I'm disappointed. More than one of my family's Christmas get togethers was at Anthe's at the Lakes.

The smorgasbords as once popular in greater Akron need to come back.

Red Pepper Steak House needs to come back with all of the musty 1984 decor and atmosphere as lead by Louis "Bony" Juhasz.

I wish Barberton chicken would franchise out at least "state wide" but sadly I don't think people outside of the 330 would appreciate that chicken and hot sauce. Swenson's has branched out into Columbus; not sure how they're doing.

I was interviewed by the one and only Phil Davidson I think it was????
Phil Davidson as in, "Use this knowledge not only as a tool, but as a weapon!" That Phil Davidson? The same Phil Davidson who botches quoting his all-time favorite quote?

Oh, but he has a Master's Degree in Communication! And he will NOT apologize for his tone tonight!

Dwight was better. LoL

Time to blow the lid off and see who really is about that Paction life. How many that follow this thread went to see a pro wrestling show at the Barbeton Armory that was hosted by Jack Greynolds and Jesse The Body Ventura?

Barberton chicken, through Whitehouse/Hopocan was franchised, with locations in Cuyahoga Falls, Ellet, Tallmadge, Green and Wadsworth. Green and Wadsworth are the only ones that have survived.

So no divisional changes from 2022.
  • CVCA bumped up to D3 due to Competitive Balance
  • Northwest still the largest school (250 boys enrollment; 2x Tuslaw at 125 boys enrollment)
  • All other schools playing in their assigned divisions
  • Fairless the largest school in the state in Division 5 that does not have a Competitive Balance adjustment (8th largest in Division 5; top 7 all moved down from Division 4 a year ago)
Getting closer to lacing them up.

I missed that....but I did see the Barberton Magics coached by Jack Greynolds lose in the 1977 state final to Columbus Linden McKinley and Buster Douglas!....does that count?

Swenson's has built 3 or 4 drive-in's in the Columbus suburbs. I rarely see them busy.

Barberton chicken needs to make Village Inn Great Again before franchising.
