PAC 2022

The good news I hear is that they have good numbers in the program and that a lot of young guys are playing and getting experience. Unfortunately for Manchester fans that means the team will be taking some L's this season and probably next as well.
Numbers might be good, but it seems the culture has changed. I saw this rearing its head the last few years here.

Great job by CVCA. I do keep forgetting they are D3 now tho.

Hats off to the Falcons. Weak schedule or not, still winning. Is this a new coach?

Triway might have something to say about league title. Ive been largely sleeping on them. Im waking up.

Im enjoying the league here. Some good ball being played. The conference i live by is probably the worst in ohio- LC8. Bad city so I appreciate a solid league.

We're no good. Go back to bed.

That was my whole point earlier in this thread, people acted as if because they simply scheduled Louisville that somehow made them a solid team
The year in year out best teams regardless of size in the state schedule tough and play difficult schedules to prepare their teams for when it counts. This is not a reinvention of the wheel. I don't see St Eds playing Akron Firestone....I don't see Hoban playing Manchester. The reality is, if you're a coach, and you play a tough schedule, you get to really know what your team is. If NW played the schedule Fairless played in the first 3 games, they would have been 3-0 as well. But I can tell you, and have been telling you, NW is just OK.

The Fairless schedule apologists on here will find out throughout league play. Fairless is going to lose to CVCA, Triway, and South. If NW could so much as sniff any type of passing game, they would have beat Fairless.

A couple of great games last weekend for sure.
Looking like CVCA @ Triway could and or should be a good one.
Can Northwest get back on track?
Is Orrville able to get some more scores this week against a tough Fairless defense?
Does Manchester get shutout against Canton South?
Good Luck PAC this week 🏈

The rationale is flawed, yes the top teams in the state play toughs schedules, they have the talent, skill, and depth to do so. But those second and third tier teams, the teams that can compete for a conference title or maybe a first round playoff win they aren't suddenly a better team because they schedule up and lose games. If anything it does the opposite for you. For example, Buchtel is a good team this year, they're sitting at 0-4 and will likely be 0-5 this time next week. They scheduled tough, lost some close games, suffered some injuries and now even if they run the table are staring at a trip to West Branch, Girard, or Lake Catholic in the playoffs and that's if they even make it in at all. What does a schedule like that do for them? How have they benefitted? Yes, obviously it would be nicer if a team like Fairless had wins over some higher quality competition right now but the lack of those wins doesn't change anything other than their seeding for the playoffs. They aren't magically going to be a worse team because they've beaten up on some lesser competition and they wouldn't suddenly get tougher if they added South Range and Perry to the schedule either. They are what they are, maybe a 10-0 conference champ, maybe a 7-3 eight seed but sitting at 7-3 they have a lot better shot of winning a playoff game than they do at 5-5 or 4-6 regardless of who the wins came against

Isn't this what its literally all about though? Lots of teams out there that look great with 9-1, 10-0 records who lose in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs. At same time, Canton Central Catholic, Mogadore, Buchtel as you mentioned, etc....often end the season 5-5, 6-4, even 4-6 and get favorable seeding in the playoffs because of their strength of schedule.

I understand your argument - and I guess it just needs to be determined what the teams are playing for and what they're expectations are. If you show up at Fairless' practice today and ask them if they'd be ok with 7-3 and a 2nd round playoff loss, do you think the players and coaches are all smacking butts and high fiving each other? Or do you think there's disappointment there? But....what if they played a real schedule to start the season and lets say they were 2-2 going into week 5 and you told them the same thing at practice today.....I bet they'd be more excited/ok with 7-3 and 2 playoff games! Just food for thought...

Nobody asked for my opinion, but I'll give it anyway. And to be honest, I haven't fully read any of the "strength of schedule" posts, so I don't know who I'm agreeing with or who I might be contradicting.

If a program regularly "schedules up" year-in, year-out, I firmly believe it helps develop the program and creates a higher baseline from which the program standard is set. Over time, when all four grades of high school athletes have grown accustomed to playing at a certain level every game - not just the occasional "big game" - it does have an impact on the program's success as a whole.

But if a program has a 1-2 year window and "schedules up" just during that span, it's basically like saying "we have more 'big games' this year" rather than that being the expectation/standard. In those cases, you're winning because of the players in those 1-2 classes, not because of strategic, long-term player development.

Just my $0.02.

Watched the CVCA/Canton South game. Must have been a fun one to attend in person! What a game of momentum swings.

Snider fights hard and never goes down easily. Their #2 back (#26?) was impressive, too, and had some big plays. I also like how their punt returner catches (and returns) punts.

#1 was fun to watch for Canton South and has great hands and body control, but they seemed to stop targeting him when they had the lead (some of it due to the defense, but, IMO, they could have forced it a little more with an athlete like that).

Also sounds like the Fairless/Northwest game was a dandy. The top half (+) of the PAC-7 this year is going to be VERY competitive each and every week. No easy wins in those top 5. But wouldn't want it any other way; makes for an exciting season.

And who knows, maybe Orrville sneaks up on someone? Everyone was saying before the season they weren't going to be any good, but other than their 2 blowout wins, their losses WERE to Wooster and West Holmes. Or is Manchester just THAT bad?
Triway is a very good well coached. They could use a little more depth. When they played WH I feel that is what let the game get away in the end of the 3rd/4th quarter.
Orrville is not as bad as everyone thinks. Those first couple games they started 4 sophomores and a freshmen on the offensive line. Wooster and WH are tough to learn against. They play hard for 4 quarters and the coaches are working their tails off to get better. I have a lot of respect for that staff and what they are doing with a very young team.

Orrville got thumped by bigger (Wooster) and MUCH better (WH) teams and then thumped 2 bad teams. This week we'll get to see if they can where they actually fall on that spectrum.

You can overschedule just like you can underschedule. I'm not sure anyone is asking Fairless or any other team to schedule nothing but dominant programs in their OOC.

After the great games last Friday night, it's been awfully quiet on this board this week. Hard to believe but by 10:00 PM on Friday night, the regular season will be half over. Football season goes by so quickly.

So let's talk about what we learned last week and take a look at the Power Rankings heading into Week 5

1. Fairless (4-0, 1-0) (unchanged) - After giving up just 13 points in the first three games of the season, the Falcons remained unbeaten but were pushed to the brink by Northwest and needed a trick play to set up the game winning field goal in a 31-28 victory in PAC Game of the Year candidate #1 on the road last week. Northwest scored 28 after being held to just six points a week earlier against Louisville. Going into Week 5, it's still hard to tell how good this team is. Upper echelon PAC good? Absolutely. 2022 repeat champion good? We'll find out. But probably not this week. The Falcons should come out of Friday night 5-0 after hosting Orrville. But unblemished, they remain atop the Power Rankings for another week.

2. CVCA (3-1, 1-0) (+1) - If the Fairless-Northwest game was a PAC Game of the Year candidate, then the CVCA-Canton South game has to be added to the list. A game of massive swings. 15-0 Royals in the first quarter. Then a turnover on the goal line sparked South, who outscored CVCA 36-7 in the second and third quarters. But it was 20-0 CVCA after that. Add five more touchdowns and a got-to-have-it 2-point conversion from Kyle Snider and CVCA has the ground game working to near-perfection. Up next: Triway. Then Fairless. Then Northwest. The Royals were 3-1 a year ago, before the gauntlet caused them to stumble to a 5-5 regular season finish. Will 2022 be different? We'll see on Friday night down in Wayne County.

3. Canton South (2-2, 0-1) (-1) - Poochie Snyder was brilliant last Friday night. 20-38-341-0 with three touchdowns passing - two to Xavier WIlliams, (who torched the Royals for 4 catches and 156 yards receiving). Snyder added another touchdown on the ground. Unfortunately for Poochie, he was also the Wildcats' leading rusher, with seven carries for 38 yards. CVCA shut down the South running game with everyone else going a combined 13 carriers for 24 yards. South is dynamic. They can put up points in a hurry. But they couldn't close out the Royals because they couldn't run the ball in the fourth quarter with a lead. South will win a lot of games and they should get PAC win #1 this week against Manchester.

4. Triway (3-1, 1-0) (unchanged) - Manhandled Tuslaw 44-14 last Friday night and the home cooking continues in this week's PAC Game of the Week against CVCA, the fourth home game in five weeks for the Titans. Zack Miller tossed six touchdown passes last week and passed for 371 yards going 35-46 though the air, and the Titans defense harassed Tuslaw all night. It's safe to say the Titans are every bit the contender they were a year ago. With a plethora of receivers including Easton Barnard, Riley Gumber, Cale Drown, Cooper Barton and Jaxon Hackett, there are threats all over the field. It should be another high scoring affair this week with CVCA coming to town.

5. Northwest (2-2, 0-1) (unchanged) - The Indians reversed the scoring trend and put up 28 against Fairless with Kyler Miraglia rushing for a game-high 171 yards on 30 carries for the Indians. But it wasn't quite enough to prevent a second straight loss for Northwest. But the production bodes well for upcoming games, including this week's contest against Tuslaw, which should get Northwest back above .500, followed by a game next week against Orrville.

6. Orrville (2-2, 1-0) (+1) - OK. We expected the Red Riders to pick up the "W" against Manchester. But did anyone see 41-8 coming? Seems like Orrville is developing some new stars. Asiah Smith has six touchdowns rushing in the last two weeks and went for 117 yards and two of those touchdowns on 15 carries against Manchester. And Saywer Hamsher passed for 211 yards, tossed two TD’s and rushed for another at QB. Definite signs of life to go with a two-game winning streak. Is it enough to upset Fairless this week? Probably not. But it should get the Falcons' attention. And everyone else's attention too.

7. Tuslaw (2-2, 0-1) (-1)- The positives: Troy Harbeitner rushed for 83 yards and a TD and passed for another 75 yards at QB against Triway. And Tommy Snyder took another ball 61 yards to the house. But that's about it. It was a coming back to earth event for the Mustangs against Triway as the PAC losing streak reached 16 games, dating back to October 2019. A home date with Northwest this Friday before Manchester pays a visit in Week 6.

8. Manchester (0-4, 0-1) (unchanged) - Canton South's JV was shut out 22-0 against CVCA last Saturday. They won't be shutout on Friday night against Manchester. And that's after Poochie Snyder sits for most of the second half. Better days are ahead for the Panthers. Because it can't get much worse. Can it?

Chime in ... let's get the chatter going again. Just over 48 hours til the games begin again!

Great job 👏🏻

Still feels like Triway is that wildcard team. I don't know how, but it just seems like people still don't know what they really are which is crazy since we're in week 5.

I think when the dust settles....Triway, CVCA, and South all go 1-1 in their head-to-heads with each other (don't let me down this week Triway (@thePITman )) . I also think those 3 will go 3-0 against Fairless.

1. Triway/CVCA/South
4. Fairless
5. NW
6. Orrville
7. Tuslaw
8. Chester

NW is the team that those top 3 will dread facing though - Big O-line, ability and commitment to running the ball and controlling clock, they have a chance to sneak an upset in there.....

Northwest is averaging 3 yards per carry, this isn't the NFL and they haven't exactly played an elite defensive line as of yet. I don't think anybody on their remaining schedule is looking at that and trembling. They also have led a game for a total of 13 minutes in their last 120 minutes of football so it's not like their controlling the games either

How many NW games have you actually been to this year?

They've lost 2 games by a total of 13 points. Against Fairless they rushed 41 times for 217 yards...thats 5.29/carry and it took a WR throw out of a quads package to set up the win for Fairless. They have a big experienced O-line and they will be in every game they play because of the ball/clock control running game.

Between this statement and the strength of schedule argument - I'm not sure football is really your forte Shoot....

Fairless didn't trail beyond the first series of the game and out gained NW by 140 yards all while they were penalized 10 more times than NW which took a TD off the board for them in addition to a very questionable pass interference call on a NW 4th and long that gave them a first down which led directly to points. They didn't "need" a trick play to beat them, they used one and succeeded with it. They punted once the entire game and moved the ball at will. On the opposite side Northwest was held to 107 yards on 34 carries against Louisville, 148 yards on 43 carries against Marlington, and 89 yards on 38 attempts against Norton. That's 3.1 ypc, 3.4 ypc, and 2.3 ypc. Add in the 5.2 from the Fairless game and that's a 3.5 ypc average..... I just can not get past the delusional Northwest posters in this thread, the only notable thing they've done this year is a win against Norton who last year was a decent team but graduated a bunch of talent this year and also lost their head coach late in the year plus they played a "close" game with Louisville who's coming off back to back 2 win seasons and just got throttled by Hoover who is probably the worst team in the Fed this season. Northwest will win three more games, all against low level competition, and stumble into the playoffs at 5-5 or maybe 6-4 if they sneak out a win against Triway barring an injury for CVCA or South taking out Snider or Snyder and be rewarded with a 7-9 seed and an eventual thumping at the hands of Girard or West Branch. There's nothing more to it

Shoot - did the penalties happen or not? Did NW cause the penalties to happen or did Fairless? The 4th and long PI was not questionable at all - it was a clear call, everyone in the stadium knew the flag was coming. You say NW posters are delusional yet, the mighty Falcons of Fairless only managed to beat NW by 3 pts. I've literally said all along, NW is just ok this year without Mick, and they have virtually no passing game to speak of - I'm not on here claiming they're going to win state...

When has Mogadore finished 5-5 or 6-4. Been a long time ago.
Moggy maybe not a great example because their conference schedule allows for them to have a better record each year. They definitely don't schedule traditional cupcakes for OOC games though....

3:17 in 1Q: CVCA 14 Triway 0.

Royals score on 3yd Kopec rush and 14yd TD pass Wiehe to Levak, sandwiched around a Triway drive that had a few first downs before being forced to punt.

END 1Q: CVCA 14 Triway 0. CVCA's ball, 3rd & 4 on Triway's 41.

10:30 in 2Q: CVCA 21 Triway 0. Royals' Kopek with his 2nd TD run of the game, this time for 34yds. PAT good.

6:36 in 2Q: CVCA 28 Triway 0. Royals' Wiehe 22yd TD pass to Snider. PAT good.

CVCA is playing VERY well all around - line is blocking great, both running backs doing their thing, and the occasional pass has resulted in a few big plays. And defense is slowing down the Titan offense.

I'll hold off on Yappi updates for now... You can follow more updates here: https://twitter.com/PITmanStats

9:34 in 3Q: CVCA 36 Triway 6.

FINAL: CVCA 36 Triway 6. Congrats to CVCA on the big win. They earned it tonight!

Snider is probably the best player in the league when you factor his defense - had an interception at a pivotal point in the first half to keep Triway from getting the momentum back. #20 Kopec and #4 Price are gonna be a load the next 2-3 years!

The Royals have 5-0 Fairless next week, and the Titans travel to Canton South.
