PAC 2022

Along with who joins, I’m curious about who has the loudest voice in the room. The years of Koach exercising authority are over and what’s left is quite a hodge-podge of schools who all have a slightly different perspective/ focus.
Great point - pretty curious really. No major players in the room anymore really....

I just don't think there's any really good fits currently out there, everybody's mind goes to Minerva because of how bad their football has been but they are a geographical outlier and would be a top team in the league almost instantly in a bunch of sports. On top of that they'd also be one of the bigger schools in the conference. I just can't see the PAC teams jumping at an opportunity to add a potential sleeping giant like that to their league unless the survival of it depended on it. All the other options people have laid out are nice ideas but there's no reason to believe any of those schools would want to leave their current situations and there's absolutely no chance they kick out a private school just to add in a different private school
I admittedly don't follow Minerva sports.....what are they really good at? I know girls basketball is badddd....football is baddd...thats the extent of my Minerva knowledge tho....

Track, XC, Wrestling, and Soccer they are fairly strong. In the past they've also been very good at volleyball but I'm not sure if that's still a strength. Baseball and Softball they've just been average for as long as I can remember. Boys basketball though has been really bad other than a few good seasons in 2016 and 2017. I'm not saying they'd come in and just trounce everybody but they'd be a contender for league titles in a fair amount of sports right away

If we're worried about a team coming in that might be good in sports, let's just reach out to Kingsway Christian. Location is perfect, and smaller than the other schools being mentioned. And they were "national champions" in baseball several years back.

Kinda surprised there hasn't been any rumblings about a potential replacement for CVCA yet. I'd still love to will Coventry back to the PAC and CVCA to the Metro. Just makes so much sense for both schools IMO....
Rumor from a source that Coventry is looking at the PAC

It's not about a "good" team joining the league it's more of a question about what the future of the league is. With enrollment in most PAC schools dropping it's clear the conference is shifting more and more towards a D5-6 majority. Does bringing in a D4 school, that's admittedly on the small side, fit the future of the conference? Let's not forget they're getting rid of CVCA who has most certainly not been the dominant force in the league in basically anything since Northwest and Orville joined because they outgrew the rest of the teams in the conference. Would the Mustangs, Panthers, Red Riders, Falcons, and Titans want to add another school bigger than themselves?

I believe CVCA usually wins that All Sports trophy that that PAC gives yearly based on where the schools athletic team place during the season. That would make them dominate right? Do you track the All Sports trophy @thePITman ? Or does the PAC do it separate for fall and spring?

By the way here is a shameless plug for https://www.pac7sports.org/

In 2020-2021 every team in the conference won a title in at least one sport and while CVCA usually comes out on top in the All Sports race I think that level of parity between the schools stops a lot of people from looking at CVCA as a bully of the league and some big dominating force. They just have more kids and that usually gives more opportunities for athletic success

Sorry to interrupt all the conference movement talk ... but we're little over 24 hours out from what could be The Game Of The Year in the PAC: Fairless at CVCA.
  • It's looking like this will be the FOX 8 Friday Night Touchdown Game of the Week
  • Fairless is sending Spirit Buses full of kids to CVCA (this is way cool!)
  • CVCA has its annual Junior Royals night ... so a big crowd is already expected on the home side
As for the teams themselves:
  • CVCA has been tested by New Philly, Woodridge, Canton South and Triway, and comes out of those four games 3-1, having left a potential W on the table at New Philly
  • Fairless has taken care of business against four lesser opponents and played the Northwest game down to the wire in the fourth quarter
  • It's the first trip to CVCA for Fairless since 2018.
  • I took a look back at the stats from last year's game, which I recollected was a blowout win for Fairless (31-7). I failed to recall it was 7-0 at halftime.
    • Hunter Campbell gashed CVCA for 110 yards on 13 carries, but Fairless only ran it six other times for 26 yards - only 136 on the ground overall. I expect Peter Killy to get those carriers this year. Will CVCA's run defense be able to maintain their 66 ypg average?
    • Colucci only completed 12 passes in the game a year ago, but they includes lots of big plays. TD passes of 39 and 50 yards (Pomneo & Yoder). And three other chunk passing plays of 17-25 yards
  • The Royals played with a patchwork offensive line, and two other linemen went down during the game, including one who left on a stretcher
    • Snider was kept in check a year ago (19 for 75). The Royals ran for 132.
    • This season, CVCA is averaging 300+ a game on the ground and Snider is 200+
For any of the Northwest folks out there, how did Fairless look in the Week 4 contest? I would guess Pumneo and Yoder remain concerns with their speed.

It should be a fun Friday night and could go either way. Winner will be the only remaining unbeaten in the conference. What does everyone think?

This is the fallacy that the Competitive Balance Adjustment perpetrates. Here are the real numbers, right off the OHSAA web site:

CVCA is penalized in the Competitive Balance model because most of the kids who attend CVCA arrive in ninth grade, after attending either their home district or feeder Christian schools through eighth grade. CVCA is second largest, but Northwest, CVCA and Canton South are grouped together by size, with Northwest approaching the D3 cutoff themselves (they are within 10 of the cutoff already). Tuslaw seems like the odd school in the list, as they are just half the size of Northwest.

Right, and CVCA and Northwest are usually the top two teams in the All Sports race. I'd imagine Canton South will become a power in that race as well as time goes on. I'd also love to see participation rates by school, how many more athletes does a team like CVCA have than Tuslaw or Manchester?

What's interesting about Tuslaw is that if you take football and soccer out of the equation, both of which they are extremely bad at, they are more than holding their own across the other sports despite the size disadvantage noted above.

CVCA has 43 on the football roster. Fairless appears to have 45. Canton South had 58. Orrville has 58. Tuslaw has 48. No rosters posted for the others.

Draw your own conclusions.

You know, I could almost see Orrville, Triway, Tuslaw, and Fairless joining the WCAL and forming a super conference. Two six team divisions in football and crossovers would actually be feasible in that league.

I was at the Northwest Fairless game. Fairless looked good (Fairless QB looked great). They play well together…

Crazy Big Game with CVCA vs Fairless.
CVCA has a one two punch in the running game…
Fairless has a dual threat (smart) QB with weapons…
I can see a 34-31 game…
Who wins?
Gotta love HS 🏈

WCAL hasn’t changed since before Biden got elected to the Senate (look it up, it’s a looong time ago). Don’t expect them to change. Ever

Best place to eat near Canton South?

I was thinking about Jerzees near Fawcett, but that's a little out of the way, having to get on 77N then come back down.

I'm sure there are kids that play sports at CVCA - that came to CVCA specifically to play that sport though. Albeit, not as much as you see at Hoban, or St V, or Eds/Iggy.....but they do get those athletes regardless of what sport it is (cough Darryn cough Peterson) (cough Gia cough Casalinova) (Jordan and Jacob Decatur - among many many other wrestlers..)

Public schools aren't afforded the opportunity to just welcome such players with open arms - now, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen in public schools, but there is a lot more red tape and hoops to jump through/around to make something like that happen. So for this reason, I believe the competitive balancing is fair.
