Ohio State Football 2024

My thoughts on Howard in particular:

Maybe once put the ball in harms way (see below).
95% of his passes were catchable and the the errant pass on the 4th down early in the game could have gone the other way.
His athleticism is elite for a guy his size.
His running ability is something OSU has missed since Fields. Not a knock on Stroud at all. He’s gonna move the chains at critical times in big games.
He was a couple drops, one of which was gonna go for 65 and a TD, from absolutely nobody muttering a negative word about his performance.
His dime to Smith to the 1 was a top level throw.
He showed good poise and pocket presence, moving around to give him a second more to throw.

I like what I saw, albeit was Akron, it’s only fair to give him a handful of games and judge him as a whole rather than a half of football.
Same, but that play where he lateralled to Henderson is still in the back of my mind.

Hey, I’m a big Buckeye fan. Been watching longer than lots of people here.

But the way last year ended was embarrassing, and not putting up 45 points against this team is sad.
Really 52 is not greater than 45? Big Buckeye fan LOL, calling the starting QB a stiff after 1 half of play, hell uv a fan. Stick with the browns board and root on your pervert QB.

Been watching the Buckeyes since Rex Kern, who you never heard of, was the QB.

I just don’t get excited by beating Akron.

And the O didn’t put up 52 points.
I remember Jim Otis so yes, I was around for Rex Kern and yes, I am old. I am not that excited about the win over Akron either, but I am not going to bash a QB after one half of play calling him a stiff. Akron game meant very little OSU did what they had to do...win. Same as Oregon neither HC Day or Lanning really want their teams to be rolling right now better to have people think like you do that they suck, and Lanning I am sure wants OSU players think that (I am sure they don't). In 14 OSU lost to Va. Tech by 2 TD's and went onto win a NC, poor play or even a loss at the beginning of the year means very little.

Edit: Instead of poor play I should have posted less than impressive play.

I think people saying he is a Heisman candidate after this one game are knee jerk reactionists.

How about you?

On and off the field, Howard is exactly what I like in a QB. His presser after the game was like a royal holding court. Really good stuff. He is confident and humble. He engages in self-criticism.

He finished 17-28. Of the incompletions, 4 were appropriate throwaways (per PFF) and 3 were drops. Take those out and he was 17-21. I can live with that.

Yeah believing the QB on a loaded OSU team that will be a playoff team is a Heisman candidate is such a reach.

He was dropping dimes all day. Yeah a better opponent has a better scheme, better personnel but the opponent has nothing to do with ball placement. The ball was where it was supposed to be on nearly every throw.

No win situation. If Howard lit Akron up, they'd be saying "it's only Akron".

That's why I despise playing these teams. It accomplishes nothing.
I disagree. You play an opponent, you have real game film to analyze, see what isn't ideal and where there is work to be done. You may see a position or two where your starter isn't performing as well as the guy behind him. All kinds of good info.

Some day what or whoever controls CFB will allow spring and/or fall scrimmages and practicing together among teams. CFB is looking more and more like the NFL (for better and worse) and if that is the reality, they will move toward an off and pre-season that helps get teams ready to play at a higher level. As it is, Akron, W Mich, and the Thundering Turds are the de facto pre-season schedule for 2024 OSU.

This however in the future I envision less of the Power 4 schools scheduling cupcakes and more of P4 conferences scheduling each other. The people in control (tv networks) are going to demand it. BIG added Oregon, USC for one reason money which is created by tv ratings. The networks are going to want to see more P4 match ups and less OSU vs Akron match ups.

I grew up at a time when we didn't play Ohio teams. Lots of games against the Pac 8/10, Southwest Conference with a smattering of Big 8, ACC, SEC and Independents. Never played MAC or MAC level opposition.
