We don't have pre-season games in CFB. So, teams work things out over the first few games - unless they have one of those big games scheduled early.
Been watching Buckeye openers for a few years. Normally, they are a lot like that first half. The second half showed what they are and can be. I like what they showed - running game and run blocking obviously needs some work. Otherwise, the needed elements are mostly there.
People were wondering whether the game plan was restricted. Probably, in the sense that it was Akron and the staff has a plan to play up to 16-17 games. You can't put more in the offensive gameplan than you can master in 3 practices. I think it's safe to assume what we saw Sat was basic.
Last, since I didn't see anyone note it - Jack Sawyer should be under arrest for what he did to Akron QB Ben Finley. That was a repeated, brutal felonious assault. Jack had a stat line of 2 tackles, but his influence on the game was bigger than his stats suggest.
The season is a journey and the team develops and gets refined over the season. Expecting them to be a polished end product on Aug 31 isn't realistic. But I can see what that end product can be - and that's why I'm optimistic and these nattering nabobs of negativism can kiss my scarlet and gray arse.
