2024 Recap and 25 Thoughts.: When a buddy told me he was the next Commish I mentioned 'MAC Commish success is directly tied to the amount of state titles...." and he responded with 'The Standard is the......Standard'.
Fall season is a success!
Going under the presumption everyone is in the same regions as '24 with most my comments
First and foremost, the league as a whole is expected to be way, way, way, way, way down net season and the 2 titles this year may be out last for the foreseable future.
Parkway: Will they see progress in '25? Need to see continued improvement, but until then they will continue to struggle.
---'25: Miss playoffs.
Ft Rec: New era commencing with new coach. Niekamp did an admirable job for the Indians. A State Championship: A lot of schools wish they could say that.
---'25: I hope the football God's look kindly upon the program after two others wussed out and didnt want to play MSML in week 11. Shame on those squads and good on FR. Because I believe in ya get what you deserve, I see playoffs next year....
DSJ: Honeslty was worried for the program after watching their first half peformance on WOSN vs CW. They ralled in the playoffs
---'25: Hope this sparks some renewed hope and they are bit more competitive in the regular season. I see the playoffs for next year.
NB: LIked what I saw with their young QB, but was perplexed by some of their scores as it likely is a learning lesson that they need to be ready every week in the MAC.
---'25: Continued growth, and playoff birth and will go until they meet another MAC squad.
Versailles: Tremendous start, awful second half of the season. Very uninspring week 11 game against IL. The Tigers either came in not caring in that game, or thinking they would walk all over IL. They need to do better as there was zero intensity or fire on that sideline.
---'25: Region should continued to be weak and anything less than getting to week 13 is a huge disappointment.
Minster: Tremendous season, and a State Champ if it werent for MSML. Can they reload, or will they need to rebuild?
---'25: PLayoff team until they meet SH or MSML.
Anna: Solid team, a state finalist if they didnt run into the C8vs. Knew we would see them again after the first meeting.
---'25: Likely rematch with CW at some point, and as we sit I would give Anna the edge over CW next year.
SH: Solid, solid season and I expect a lot out of them next year.
---'25: The region will go through SH or MSML.
MSML: Congrats St15ners. Always a class act and dominant, so much so it infuriates much of the state!
---'25: Lose a lot, and likely will start slow. Best chance to beat them is the first few weeks next year so the OOC games, and first league game will be the time to meet them. SH or MSML will win the region.
CW: Congrats....St8 Champion Cav8liers! What else can be said about this season that I already hadnt bloviated about? I will say this, whenever I am feeling a bit off in 2025 I am going to que up that Welch interview from after the game. Simply perfect words and thoughts, I dont know him but if that is the type of charisma he exudes on a daily basis I see good things for him in the future.
--'25: Lose a lot, no doubt. Weeks 1 and 2 could be very rough and some growing pains, but I trust the coaching staff willl coach them up and by midseason looking like a good squad. I see us going as far as meeting up with Anna....and then it will be a coin flip game.
That brings me to back to this season, and the growth we saw on the offense in adding more diversity to the offense. It was on full display vs Anna. When is the last time a CW team lined up and just out bullied a GOOD opponent? Imagine no player on this year's team was even alive....
Of course, Coach O, CK will craft our offense to the strengths of the players/QB. That is a given.
HOWEVER, the I, and the commitment to running the ball MUST stay in this offense for the long time viability of the program. Obviously, years when we have a crazy legs QB you can call more run plays, but this style MUST stay.
Our QBs are good runners, but will ALWAYS be better runners if they are not the focus of the running attack. We got way too dimensional and QB centric over the years and solid defenses, and weather, clamped down. BBlock is a good running QB, but a VERY GOOD running QB when the offense is ran this way.
Running the ball brings a toughness to the team. You give out punishment, and pass block you take punishment. I will even say this offense helped our defense, in its toughness, AND keeping opponents off the field.
This newfound physicality is what is needed if we want to compete with MSML, Ironton, Liberty Center, Kirtland, etc in coming years when we start moving divisions.
Coldwater Baseball..you are on the clock. Ever since FB got their 5th the 2 programs have gone one up, tied, one up..tied...etc.
Let's hope for some great MAC seasons from now until next season.
God Bless ya'all and thanks for a geat year of banter.
Appreciate each day, each season and every success as our last. You never know what is around the corner in life and sports.
NEVER take the MAC and your teams success for granted.
The greatest phiosophiser of our time, Al Bundy, once said. 'once you start accumulating good luck, it immediately builds up an equal amount of bad luck'.
We have been extremely fortunate and I know for myself I have driven up to 8 hours in a day to see our C8vs in Championship tilts and will never take this for granted.
This is Thavoice signing out.....
God Bless the USA.
God Bless big #70.
God Bless the MAC.
....and May God Bless our Coldwater Cav8liers!
