Hoban '23

If that was true how do you explain Massillon still getting recruits after all these years? Must be the basketball and baseball championships that are carrying Hoban's programs currently.
I’m not saying Hoban will lose out on its entire recruiting class next year if they don’t win it all. Private school dominance tends to be fickle though and when your neighbors start getting their act together and are going after the same players you are things can start to change (just look at the constant cycle of power down in Cincy). Basically my point was that 1-2 kids going to Walsh and 1-2 other kids going to St V that would’ve maybe went to Hoban every year that are good football players would make a difference eventually.

The opinion that Hoban making the championship game the last 3 years, while winning one, somehow hurts the program's attractiveness and profile is quite the take.
Couldn't agree more. I'm literally reading here and shaking my head at some of these posts.

I would agree if St V hadn't thrown in the towell and cried uncle. Walsh will pick off a few suburban kids but I don't think Akron City kids will go to Walsh.

They lost the Akron armor quarterback to Walsh this year! So stop pretending that they have a stronghold at city kids. Walsh got the rising sophomore as well from Akron armor. Runningback. Those kids would never have gone to Walsh until the new Walsh coach changed the culture. So keep thinking your invisible and I’ll keep showing you receipts. But Hoban is still king

Didn’t the other qb they wanted go to Glenville as well?

But like I was saying about Hoban when you don’t win a state title it hurts your chances at recruiting that’s what happened with STVM. Doesn’t anyone remember how they fell off after losing to Joe burrow

Yes some poster on here was saying his son committed to Hoban, then later changed to Glenville, probably more because location. Hoban and glenville far apart. It doesn’t take much lose 2/3 studs a year that would usually attend your school, to go to competition and the powers change. Not saying that’s Hoban right now. But with their 2 biggest competitors making a resurgence, Hoban could slip in near future. As could Ed’s . Look at St X and or Elder. Or iggy a decade ago. Doesn’t take much. (Can’t win todays games with yesterdays scores)

Tim Tyrrell arrived at Hoban in 2013.
The Irish lost to Burrow in 2014.
The slide of the Irish had much more to do with the former than the latter.

In addition to those 2 QBs and the RB, two rising sophomore Wide Receivers at Walsh have gotten FBS scholarship offers. Both are Akron kids. One has offers to Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Purdue.

Very interesting. Certainly goes against the idea that Walsh being good again doesn’t effect Hoban’s ability to have their pick of the litter in that area.

According to the roster on max preps Hoban just got a 6'4 290 tackle from Tuslaw. I guess you can't have too many of those guys.

QB was from Green, not Akron City kid. RB would not have played at Hoban I was told. QB probably would have competed but who knows if he would have started. Easier path at Walsh for him and smaller stage. Each year I have seen great kids leave Hoban after 1 year due to various reasons and be stars elsewhere. Competition, academics and social issues all come into play. It's not going to be a fit for everyone.

It’s the same thing every year, Walsh and St. V are closing the gap. I do agree Alexander is a very good coach but is also 0-5 vs Hoban. St. V is closing the gap so much they dropped them, lol. 0-11 since 2015 and on its 4th coach. Hoban will continue to be good and not measure themselves based on Walsh or St. V. That is why they beat both of them. They worry about themselves not comparing themselves to other programs . If Walsh and St. V did that, they would probably be better.

My gosh everything is perfect. Hoban gets everyone they want. Never lose a kid. It’s a dynasty for the next 100 years. Everyone else gets hobans trash.
Can’t even have a civil debate. And just talk about
Holes in the armor. Hoban hawks won’t hear it. I’m a Ed’s fan and Walsh , nordonia fan. And can have debates about positives and negatives. It’s a football forum good or bad. Fun to debate

I like a good debate! Hoban has never and will never get every kid they want. Walsh is a very good school with a good coach, they will continue to pluck kids who are good players. I still think Walsh and St. V compare and want to be like Hoban football. It’s the same reason Hoban can’t beat St. V in basketball, they are always worried about what Dru is doing instead of worrying about themselves. You as a St. Ed’s fan should know that. Ed’s doesn’t give a _____ about anyone other than themselves, that’s why they win!

Question for the Hoban fans.... What do you think is Tyrell's future? Do you see him moving on to a college gig or is he content where he is and is a Hoban lifer? Certainly has the machine humming where he is at. But at some point does he feel like he has nothing left to accomplish at the HS level and look to move up the ladder to college? Just curious.....

QB from Green is probably a better baseball prospect so I can see why he would want to go to Walsh.

Hoban Football is not for everyone. No question kids are going to go to Walsh or Stv. Competition is stiff to win a starting position and the game schedules are rough. A lot of parents are not down for the hard road. The program is slowly becoming more of a national program. The kids who want to compete and play 16 games a year are the suited ones. There are levels to High School football. We can talk about a random 1 kid a year choosing Stv or Walsh over Hoban Football but, there is zero reason to be had to compare either of those programs to Hoban Football. They are not they same..... nor will they be in the near future.
