General NFL Chat

The biggest threat to NFL dominance is the continued high profile incompetence of the leagues officials. It leads directly to all sorts of conspiracy theories and whose to say they're wrong? Either way a good start to fixing this problem would be to fire, today, the officials responsible for this screw up.

What the heck is going on with Philadelphia? Down 21-0. TB driving again. The Eagles with 0 total yards.

Thank fantasy football for my interest in this game. Jalen Hurts a major disappointment for me so far this season.

An extra point block returned for 2 points make this game still interesting. Big difference between 31-14 and 30-16.

Eagles still have a shot.

Minnesota Vikings 4-0. With wins over Houston, San Francisco and Green Bay, the early resume is strong. All the ingredients are there, as long as Darnold just lets his playmakers make plays and doesn’t try to play hero ball beyond his ability. Skol!

Happy to see Cousins succeeding after moving on as well. It seems like a win/win

I bet Kevin wishes he was in Atlanta calling plays

As long as the Dolphins are coached by a man who is willing to wear capri pants, they will never win a thing
That's a good one. It's funny how your 15 seconds of fame can go in sports. Before, he's this dorky, non-coach looking guy who was able to win some games, etc. So this year he gets the curly hair, he goes all ga ga for Tua when he gets knocked out, kisses him on the forehead walking off the field? Can you imagine Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, or Bill Belichick doing that? Today's NFL is such a show.
And the Dolphins are BAD. That was an awful game to watch last night, and I'm a Titans fan.

"I'm a man. I'm Landry!"

I can't imagine Vrabel doing that, Titans' fan. Maybe Kevin, in a low-energy sort of way.....

I've never understood why there is a presumption that overtime has to be "fair". You just had 60 minutes to win the game.
Fair is important. I think the best thing to do is to eliminate the coin toss and just alternate possessions based on the decision at the start of the game. Right now everyone defers to the 2nd half. I would change that. If you win the toss, whoever receives the opening kickoff has to kickoff after halftime, but they receive the ball at the start of OT. Pretty simple.

Look at that does to game strategy:
- If you defer to the 2nd half, the other guy gets the ball in OT if it makes it that far.
- as the end of the game approaches, the teams already know who would get the ball to start OT. The team that knows it has to kickoff to start OT is going to "go for it" in regulation. They could be going for 2 instead of a tying extra point. They could be throwing Hail Mary's instead of taking a knee to go to overtime.

Sounds fun. I would love to see this enacted.

That's not a bad option. I'd be ok with just giving the visitors the ball first, eliminate the coin toss altogether. Home team gets the ball to start the 2nd half and if OT, the visitors get it. The old sudden death rule was perfectly fine by me. We talk about player safety, if the first team that gets the ball in OT kicks a FG, they win, period.
