D7 Region 27 2024

Going through the eight R27 games on the Challenge, there are four that I'm not real sure about lol.

Either I'm not as bullish on the conventional favorite, or information I'm exposed to has me looking more favorable to the conventional underdogs.

Eastern/Strasburg -- y'know, for EP it might be kind of futile to evaluate Strasburg's defense against NCT and TCC. The same can be said for evaluating Strasburg offense vs TCC; don't know about Strasburg vs NCT. I found the game of Strasburg vs the opponent that'd be most comparable to EP (that opponent will remain nameless) and I'll check that game out later tonight to get a real read on Strasburg's seam worthiness & general pass defense.

Shadyside/PND -- yeah, this one is weird. Not a huge BD guy lol, but he's not a bad tactician necessarily. MC tape could be a good one for PND to gameplan off of. That, plus home field advantage may actually be a 'thing' in this one.

Miller/Southern -- there's something about Southern that I think would make them favorites in hypothetical matchups against, say, Shadyside, PND, maybe even Conotton Valley. If Miller was instead playing a few other teams, I wouldn't be hesitant. This game does seem like a true pick'em where neither heads nor tails can be made.

River/SCC -- SCC doesn't appear to have that 'WOW' factor. River seems inconsistent, yes, but SCC's consistency seems to be... not sure how to phrase it?

I wouldn't be shocked, at all, if Strasburg leaves Pike County this Friday with a win. EP is too inconsistent, and they start slow every game.

For Miller and Southern, I hope the Tornadoes go out and get their first playoff win ever. Southern isn't that bad of a team this year, despite the low numbers, this is one of the better Southern teams I've seen in a bit. I think all that talking and mouthing Miller has done towards us catches up to them, hopefully.

Southern’s got one of my favorite players not just in this region, but that I’ve seen all season long!

77!

Southern gets a pick on Eastern Pike, he’s 15 yards west of the action. He unhitched the wagon and got back downfield to set a block (he’s trying to be smart on where to throw the block and how to throw it.)

He throws the block, pick return goes way past him by that point. Rather than getting back upfield where his teammates are, he helps get the kid he pancaked back up on his feet and gives him a brotherly pat on the back. Made sure he was OK! You can tell he didn’t actually mean to put the kid into the dirt!!

Wholesome!

Long time lurker, barely post ever. But watching you all talk has finally made me want to join the fun with you all. You all have another Danville poster!

Shadyside and River games are the toss ups for me. River is very inconsistent. Only score 6 points against Frontier and shut out by Shadyside. SCC didn't really have any impressive wins/ They beat a 5-3 Madonna team that hasn't really beat anyone of significance. SS beat ND pretty good first time around, but home field / long bus ride for SS, should be worth some points for the home team.

What does Danville like to run offensively? Is this team one or their better teams? Young or experienced? How do they stack up against Danville teams from the last 20 or so years?

R27 has been weak for years now, honestly.
It is weak but at least it is so evenly weak that most of the games should be kind of competitive and have some surprising results. Makes it more interesting, although it would be better if everyone was good and we could have the same uncertainty.

Definitely a run first team. Average about 10 passes a game (last 4 or 5 games posted on this thread). Have a 1100 yd senior running back, QB is a senior and has thrown for 500+ and ran for 400+. Top 3 tacklers are seniors. 8 seniors in total, all play key roles.
Bunch of underclassmen do big things as well. Roster of around 40. This will be our 53rd playoff game in the last 33 seasons, this team stacks up with a lot of those teams. Team is battle tested.

Run first? I have seen a game or two that you have posted and I would say they are more a run first, second and third kinda team:ROFLMAO:

I tried to watch one of the games you posted, but it made me sign in?
I found the Centerburg game on YouTube.
Danville isn’t on Four seasons website so I can’t look it up—-how many regional titles does Danville have?

Will see a few upsets but I think Danville and Trimble play week 14. (I'm biased so don't take my 2 cents)

Started watching the Fredericktown game, which was a game I had penciled on my itinerary at one point this season. Didn’t end up choosing that game that week. Looks like it was a great game into the third quarter before Danville took control.

Not that anyone asked, and not that I’m building in any excuses because we all know this is David vs. Goliath and Danville will be playing week 14 regardless. Bridgeport was expecting a winning season with what they had returning. However, the adversity started in August and never let up. Their projected starting quarterback, a sophomore, stopped playing right before the first scrimmage. This put their best all around player in the QB position. He is a natural RB/WR. He did a fine job before a season ending injury at Conotton Valley. Meanwhile, one of the best athletes in the school district transferred to Wheeling Central 2 seasons ago. He is their starting quarterback and will probably lead them to their 1,000th WV state title in December. It’s been a challenge.

That would take a toll on any D7 team, that is for sure. Kind of an eye opener on where the program is really at though that the potential starting QB quits and the best athlete would rather play elsewhere. Now they get to go get rag-dolled by Danville.

On the surface, yeah, but a lot more details go into these things. Been losing players to Wheeling Central for over 30 years so that’s nothing new. This game reminds me of last spring when the baseball team got matched up with Hiland in the sectional. These are measuring stick games where you get to go against teams that are legitimate contenders on a state level. Those teams don’t exist in the Ohio Valley anymore.

I'll shoot my shot on this weekend

Danville 63
Bridgeport 6

Eastern 40
Strasburg 22

Trimble 38
FC 13

CV 41
FCA 14

Miller 30
Southern 13

SG 28
Frontier 12

Shadyside 35
ND 34

River 14
SCC 12
CalPreps has FC/Trimble “total” at 48 points.

The safest play at conventional even odds tbh seems like a u48 in that one.

FC has only played on three grass fields this year. 2-1. One of those wins obviously has to be salted (Millersport.)

If I had to guess, Spartan’s surface then was probably better than what comes tomorrow night. The drought’s impact on the Sty will prob force FC to just stick with the re-discovered ground & pound if I had to guess.

I would not be surprised if it’s something like 20-0 Trimble. Safe odds are that FC will be close to Trimble’s TOP (unless Phil brings out the bone), that FC will get a reasonable amount of first downs. Can FC actually break into the EZ, though, from inside the Trimble 20? They’ll have the best athlete on the field, IMO, but their best opportunity to score might have to come via a ‘big play’… on a grass field, against a team that historically plays superb defense in the playoffs.
