D3 Region 12 Thread

No dark horse in this region. London, wapak certainly in the conversation, however the team on the rise is the private recruits and that's what usually wins out most of the time. It's really hard to defeat an all-star team. I'm still going with mcnick and I hope the heck I'm wrong!

That’s funny. McNick doesn’t recruit. Their students come from 5-6 Catholic grade schools, one across the street and another less then a mile east on Beechmont Ave. Even at that they lose some good players to St.X, Moeller and even Elder. They use to get some Anderson kids but that’s pretty much dried up since they have improved. There are mainly high performing public schools in McNicks general area. The Rockets did pick up two pretty good players from X which is a good thing…also have a very talented Sophomore class which has improved the overall depth. I don’t know if they win the region but I expect they win a few playoff games.

Anderson recruits more than any private school in the area

At least McNick moved to D3 this year and doesn't need to deal with Ginn academy that just dealt st eds a lose. Now that's the tragedy in small school football. When these small division schools have to compete with the entire greater Cleveland area, is just ridiculous. Totally destroys the spirit of the game.

Could you say the same about Toledo CC? Is anyone in D3 going to beat them? Watterson perhaps?

agreed, however I’m interested to see how Batavia and Miami Trace finish the season and to see if they might be dark horses… But Wapak, London or Tipp are gonna take this one.
Batavia and Miami Trace are pretty high on Joe Eitel’s unofficial rankings as of now. I imagine we will learn a whole lot about Batavia when they play Massie, but the fact that Batavia lost to Madeira makes me a skeptic about their ability to compete in this region. I think MT will likely win out but I’m not sure what you’ll learn from that. I guess that they can beat bad teams.

I don’t think there will be any “dark horse” in this region. Those two schools might be having good seasons relative to what they are used to, but they are playing extremely weak schedules Against schools that are mostly smaller than them. As soon as they get to the second round and catch Tipp, Wapak, London of McNick they are getting blown out.

Yeah they are by no means insane powerhouse teams, but MT still has Jackson left who has been one of the best D3 R11 teams the past few years, they are no pushover. Think that game will show us a lot, outside of Jackson the rest of their schedule is not good at all. Batavia week 1 loss doesn't look good, but since then (granted on a weaker schedule) has been dominant, now will they beat CM? Highly doubtful, but we will learn a lot about the Bulldogs. But everyone has good points. If they run into a Tipp, London, McNick, or Wapak they will be heading back home.

Yes. I think that the Madeira game is all we need to know about Batavia. Madeira is not very good. Clinton Massie will beat them by 4 TDs.

So what’s the consensus now that we are in Week 9? I think any of the top 6 (only 3 losses between them) minus Batavia have a shot. I can’t get past Batavia losing to a bad Madeira team in Week1, also they will likely lose by 20+ v. Clinton Massie this week. As a McNick fan I don’t know much about the other 4 and assume St Mary’s, Bellefontaine and CJ will not be easy opponents.

Here’s what Drew Pasteur has:

Top 4 host two playoff games
1. Tippecanoe (8-0) appears locked in and home twice
2. Wapakoneta (8-0) appears locked in and home, 96% twice (maybe if 9-1)
3. Bellbrook (7-1) appears locked in and home, 81% twice (maybe if 8-2)
4. Archbishop McNicholas (7-1) appears locked in and likely home, 63% twice (likely needs 9-1)

Top 8 host a playoff game
5. London (8-0) appears locked in and likely home, 54% twice (maybe if 10-0)
6. Batavia (7-1) appears locked in and likely home, 5% twice (maybe if 9-1)
7. Bellefontaine (6-2) appears locked in, 90% home (likely needs 8-2)
8. St Marys Memorial (6-2) appears locked in, 81% home (likely needs 8-2)

Tippecanoe could get a really tough draw even though they’re likely to be the 1 seed. St Mary’s then London then wapak or McNich would be a brutal 3 game stretch

You shouldn't be concerned about Batavia's opening loss. The problem that happened in that game was rectified promptly, as the rest of their season has shown. Won't go into specifics.

I’m sorry man but this is big boy football, Batavia won’t make it past the second round

If Batavia were to get a rematch with Maderia I think Batavia would beat them by 20+ points. Batavia since that week 1 loss has been on fire and they look like a complete team on both sides of the ball, that loss though looks really bad in hindsight. But I agree, as high as I am on the bulldogs they should be gunning for a home playoff game and to get a playoff win. Wapak, London, Tipp, McNick would all deal with Batavia by 20+ points in the 2nd round, however, the Bulldogs have been a great success story this year, and winning 8 or 9 games after years of being the whipping boys is about as good of a season as they can ask for. If them and Wilmington can keep it up and continue to get better the SBAAC American will start to become a better football conference. But as of right now, Batavia is still 2-3 seasons away of development and success before they are real competitors in D3 R12. But, I think they have a great chance to this Friday to give Clinton-Massie a good game, although I like CM in that matchup by about 10-14 points, the Bulldogs could give the Falcons some headaches.

Just curious (and maybe you don’t know) are there any Batavia kids playing for McNick? I know when my son played there were several on the team.

St Marys is pretty good this year. They are a strong team, especially their offensive line. They are one dimensional with their wing-t, but it's difficult to stop. In the week 4 St Marys-Wapak game, SM offensive line had a clear edge against the Wapak D. SM had a 16-play 80-yard scoring drive that took 7-8 minutes off the clock and another 14-play 80-yard scoring drive that took 6 minutes off the clock. Wapak was more explosive and SM isn't really built to come from behind to win. SM could get in trouble in the playoffs if they go up against a team that's stronger than them in the trenches, and SM is one of the more penalized teams in the WBL so if they get behind the sticks it'll kill drives. I think they're capable of winning first/second round games, but I'm not sure that they'll make a deep run.

Possibly, but that's why they play the game. You never know what injuries may come about, or what mistakes will come on the other side of the ball. My KC Chiefs weren't supposed to win the last 2 Superbowls, but they did!

The NFL is such different that high school. In high school there actually aren’t that many surprises. Batavia plays 1 team in the regular season who is worth their weight in salt and that’s Clinton Massie this week. Now if they beat Massie by a good margin, then maybe they have a shot. But there Dayton area and Columbus area teams are too good and play much better competition during the regular season to prepare them

We shall see. I see you threw Wilmington under the bus.

Wapak offense was scoring in only a few play look at the time of possesion plus Wapak had a blocked punt they should have scored on but our kid fell down for no reason.

beezer, I know. I followed the game, and I literally said "Wapak was more explosive" in that post.
