Cleveland Browns 2025 Edition

The Browns will show their draft hand in what they do in free agency and the trade market. If they get a Cousins or Darnold, they're not taking a QB at 2. Some lesser guy, an obvious bridge, then a QB is coming at 2.

I agree. I just don’t see getting Cousins or Darnold … I don’t see why Atlanta would cut Cousins … the have to pay him $40 million either way … they save nothing this year by cutting him … the only reason to cut him is they just don’t want him around … and he doesn’t seem to be trouble, so why cut him … and Darnold is too $$$ IMO … I think they will get one the Jones, Wentz, Brisett or something like that .. I would pick Ward if available or Carter if not, then Dart in 2nd or second trade back into late 1st … I think Sanders in smart back I question his arm strength in AFC North

The veteran quarterback dominoes began to fall on Friday night when the Raiders rocked the NFL world by trading for Geno Smith, thereby reuniting him with his former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Smith, whom the Browns passed on at No. 8 in 2013 in favor of Barkevious Mingo, may have been one possible option for the Browns as they pursue a veteran quarterback to pair with the rookie they’ll draft next month.

Ah yes, Barkevious MIngo, whose only claim to fame was that his name was used by Daniel Radcliffe for his fantasy football team " Barkevious Mingo's Mum."

And before anyone jumps on the Abdul Carter train and imagines NFL dominance with bookend pass rushers, remember the Commanders tried to build an elite front four with several high first rounders in a short period, but they never won anything until they drafted Daniels. No QB = no success.
No good ownership = no success. Hurts is not a top QB yet Eagles won the SB. Key point Commanders "tried" but most of those picks did not pan out again bad ownership. Did you watch the SB Eagles won with dominant line play not because of Hurts.

I like this trade for Cleveland. Pickett for a 5th and the worse QB in the NFL last year. Pickett is in his rookie deal so he’s inexpensive, he doesn’t turn the ball over but is limited. I think Stefanski will help him become the best he can be with is potentially a Andy Dalton, Jimmy G, poor man Kurt Cousins type of Qb - maybe a top 12 thru 20 starting NFL qb.

The Steelers had a 14-10 winning record with Pickett as a starter when he was a rookie & 2nd year guy. Guess the Browns will be a playoff team in 2025.

  • QB Kenny Pickett: Acquired in a tradewith the Eagles in exchange for QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick (Ian Rapoport). The trade will not be official until the start of the new league year on March 12.

I feel like this means Sanders is on the way.

100% agree unless Tennessee passes on Ward. I’d take Ward over Sanders but I do not think either are franchise QB’s. Bad year to have the #2 pick.
I agree with everything you said there. I guess at least Sanders has someone in his corner who knows the pro game… not sure if that’s a good thing though. Maybe it will end up like a chargers giants draft and the Browns end up with the next LT.

ESPN analyst of the trade … not sure I understand their logic
A) Pickett is definitely better DTR
B) it was only a 5th round pick … and the Browns have multiple late round picks
C) Pickett is at least a serviceable backup and is still relatively young
D) Getting rid of DTR … additional by subtraction IMO

Eagles get: QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, 2025 fifth-round pick
Browns get: QB Kenny Pickett

Eagles trade: A
Browns trade: D

A year ago, the Eagles traded for Pickett by giving a package that, by our draft pick calculations, was roughly equivalent to a borderline fifth- or sixth-round pick. Forty-three pass attempts later and now the Browns have given up a fifth-round selection plus Thompson-Robinson for a more expensive year of Pickett (he'll cost them $2.6 million in cash this year as opposed to a little under for $2 million for the Eagles last year). I don't see the logic.

The Browns need a quarterback, don't get me wrong. I just don't believe that the team -- which is highly leveraged against the cap and needs all the draft capital it can muster -- ought to be burning picks on someone like Pickett. The former first-rounder -- who ranked 20th in QBR his rookie season but dropped to 27th in 2023 before being discarded by the Steelers -- has plenty of equivalents who could surely be acquired without giving up a fifth-round pick (and Thompson-Robinson).

Cleveland's focus at quarterback surely is on the draft, and rightfully so. But the Browns probably could have done just as well, and maybe better (Kirk Cousins?!) without having to make this deal.

Yep.he not bad..like deshaun watson

Agree with most of you - Pickett does not make me excited for the long term future, but he is far more serviceable than DTR, and he will fit Stefanski's offense. He will definitely improve in Stefanski's system. A good bridge QB to have while they figure out the future QB, and the price was right. I hope the future QB is in the 2026 draft, not Ward/Sanders.

I think it is either Ward, if the Titans don’t take him … or Carter/Hunter if the Titans take Ward … and then take Dart/Shough/Milroe later in the draft

But watch - DTR, with a proper system will turn into another Baker Mayfield. It's improbable, but we all know that it's the Browns, after all.
I don’t know, he can’t throw the ball accurately more than 10 yards or so.

Baker can sling it downfield.

Apples and oranges my friend. Baker could always throw the ball well. DTR throws like me.

LOSERS

Cleveland Browns

The Browns are in such a perilous place optically that they were forced to sign Myles Garrett to a market-topping extension that affords him a complete no-trade clause simply to create the perception that all is well there. With the team wholly incapable of competing for a playoff victory right now, and very unlikely to do so during the meat of Garrett’s contract, this signing was simply a vehicle to ensure that a Hall of Fame player doesn’t walk away from Cleveland totally dejected, like so many other players who were important to the Browns’ rebooted franchise. A Garrett trade could have helped the team solve the pick deficit created by the horrific Deshaun Watson deal, but instead it looks as if the team is spending simply to keep the house in order. Leaning into the Watson mistake and recognizing that Garrett could have helped the team dig its way out would have at least felt bold enough to be admirable.

I also don’t love the fact that this team has cycled through plenty of opportunities to develop some kind of backup quarterback option. The team had to trade Joe Flacco because he was too popular and now has to pay for the privilege of another team taking Dorian Thompson-Robinson away just to get a suitable No. 2 on the roster in Kenny Pickett.

Heartily disagree with this, as do most Browns fans. DTR was a disaster in the Browns system. Will he ever be a full-time starter? Very doubtful, but " paying for the privilege of another team taking him" is the height of madness.
