Cleveland Browns 2025 Edition

He could be a nice addition for a bad weather outdoor team. A more talented Payton Hillis.

I don’t think Skattebo is anything like Hillis other than both are white

Skattebo: 5’10”, 219 lbs, 39.5 inch vertical, 10.3 broad jump. He will run the 40 at the ASU combine. Skattebo is an excellent receiver and very good blocker. He should run far better than Hillis in the dirty.

Hillis: 6’1”, 240 lbs, 4.66 forty, 30.5 inch vertical, 9.9 broad jump. Hillis had his 1 good year in Cleveland. He was not prolific out of the backfield as a receiver, he had one year with 62 catches and never more than 22 catches any other year.

Skattebo has been compared to other white running backs that don’t share his playstyle at all like former Cleveland Brown running back Peyton Hillis, who stands five inches taller than the ASU running back. The comparisons to players like Hillis to Skattebo has drove Brandt up a wall, which lead to Monday’s rant.

“Over the next 52 days, I do not want to hear the name Toby Gerhart a single time. Don’t say it! If you’re saying it about Cam Skattebo, you’re mailing in your analysis. You’re lazy. They’re not close to the same prospect. While I am at it, while I have you, do not utter the name Peyton Hillis in my presence, stop it! … Do better than just scrolling your nostalgia rolodex for the fastest meathead cracker you can find, alright? You have to do better!”

Guys, I wasn't comparing their race or size, my point was that cam could also be a workhorse back that rarely leaves the field and could also be a good bad weather back. The type of back that could be valuable in the AFC North.

No one thought you did. Your observations are spot on. The Browns need players who are tougher, who will get down and fight. Maybe not the most impressive to the analytics folks who measure a player by 40 times or standing long jump, but filled with heart and the desire to win- the type of player who can inspire others to overcome obstacles.

Skattebo is 3 inches shorter and 20+ lbs lighter than Hillis. Skattebo had a 39.5 inch verticle which was 2nd best amongst this years rb’s but that does not crack the all time top 20 amongst RB’s at the combine. Skattebo will also most likely run a far faster 40 than Hillis 4.66. If not, Skattebo will gal to a Day 3 pick. Skattebo has more skill than Hillis, especially as a 3rd down back but can he be a 3 down back as there are only 5 or so in the NFL.

Skattebo is ranked by most as 8th best rb in the very deep rb draft. The question for most teams is this: is it worth spending a 1st or 2nd rd pick on one of the rb’s when you can get basically the same production from a guy you take in say the 4th round.

From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports and Browns GM Andrew Berry finalized the deal today.

So it was about the money, after all.

So all his posturing was just about getting paid? I'm interested to see if fans have soured on him for some of his talk or if it's water under the bridge by the time football season rolls around.

Waste of money. I would’ve traded him. The draft picks would have more long term value. Myles is great, but other teams pressure QB’s at much greater rates than the Browns have with Myles and the Browns haven’t won anything during his time. And his guaranteed money helps ensure they probably won’t ever win anything during his time.

or let him rot as he sits out

And before anyone jumps on the Abdul Carter train and imagines NFL dominance with bookend pass rushers, remember the Commanders tried to build an elite front four with several high first rounders in a short period, but they never won anything until they drafted Daniels. No QB = no success.

67,431 fans will prove it's water under the bridge on opening day.

I understand wanting the keep what may be the best defensive player in the game but this is another contract that may tie their hands down the line.

I never believed Myles or Berry in this situation. Right now, it looks like the Browns got played.

A lot of Browns fans are not thrilled with the idea of the Browns drafting Sanders to play QB. Scouts are a little mixed on him too. But what if Cam Ward is there for the Browns when it’s their turn? Does Ward excite the fan base? I think it would. A new QB always sparks interest and optimism. Ward looks the part of a franchise QB more than Sanders.
Quitting on your team doesn't scream leader.

We just watched the Eagles dominance up front lead to a SB title.

If you are going to suck, as most are convinced will happen in perpetuity, I'd rather watch greatness among it than a bunch of no names.

My first thought on this signing was the Browns ownership caved. Haslim needs to get the stadium deal done and a potential nasty holdout doesn’t help. Perhaps the Browns believed this was the best way to from a PR standpoint. Also, I don’t think anyone was going to give up 2 first round picks so that could have factored in as well.

This just goes back to the Browns being the Browns. Even if the Browns make the correct choice they seem to find a way to screw it up. This deal doesn’t help the cap situation. Depth will surely be negatively affected and I’d guess the 2025 starting QB will be the one who’s left last without a starting spot or willing to play one year on the cheap. Carson Wentz or Daniel Jones seem like good fits with the Sanders kids starting the season in the bench and starting by November.

Look at everyone’s post on here about Garrett’s extension…..far more grief & dismay than happiness.

I couldn't be happier. The point of FA and the draft is to aquire a player like Garrett. You don't give them up once you have them.

As for the cap, as we've seen with Watson it's a joke. Unless they change the rules you can maneuver around it as much as needed.

Having an All-Pro on the roster certainly gives you more certainty than draft picks (especially with the Browns' inability to identify and draft talent). The word is that Myles is going to actively work to help recruit free agents. Hopefully, they won't consider his comments over the last month.

This is true about the cap. My concern is more Garrett’s age and how far this team is from contending. He’s almost a luxury.

I agree you can maneuver around it to some degree providing it goes up 15+% each year like it has over the last 5-10 years excluding Covid. Being in cap purgatory does affect a teams bottom 1/2 of the roster, the depth of the team. Swing tackle, slot corner, 3rd pass rusher to rotate in with the two starting DE’s, etc. the Browns haven’t maneuvered around Watson’s contract, they have suffered because of it.

“I was just kidding, fellas. Jimmy’s checkbook and I are getting along just fine!”

I know you can defer out cap money over future years, but can you bring it back? Let’s say, due to some cap rules or the state of the Browns roster’s salaries in a given year, it would be more advantageous to take a big cap hit on Watson to be rid of him sooner…can they pull back the money from those years they pushed out Watson’s money?

I can here it now. "It was never really about the money. After sitting down with Andrew and hearing of his plans for the future, I was convinced that he has a plan in place for the future success of the team..."

Apparently, Andrew Berry discovered the plan after Myles spoke with Rich Eisen.

And the Browns have been so successful in drafting one. I totally agree with you that success depends on the qb, but have no faith that the powers on high have any idea how to select the right one.
