Battle of Pickerington - OCC

Central totally dominated the first half and yet are only up 7-6. Time of possession 19:21 to 4:39 in favor of Tigers. only North TD on a blocked FG returned for a TD. Central determined not to let Taylor beat them again loading the box and totally shutting PN run game down. North QB had a poor first half missing 3 passes....two short passes thrown too high and one deep ball that could've been a TD that was overthrown.....Good game plan by Tigers. Difference is XP after FG block return hit the upright.......

Where did they find these officials? They weren’t qualified to officiate a middle school game. So many missed facemask calls, roughing the passer, personal fouls. PN didn’t get called for anything.

Central had their chance to put the hammer down in the first half and let it slip away......North totally turned the game around in the 2nd half. 3 Non-offensive TD's for the game for North + 2 Preston Bowman TD's......

Absolutely well said

Unrelated, but what was going on at The Ditch tonight? Drove by on Cols St as the traffic was heading out on Hill and Pickerington; saw the lights on and there was activity on the field.

15th year this tournament has been in existence. We had Friday night games at both " The Ditch" ( PC old varsity field ) and PN high school.

I heard there was some sort of fight and the game ended with time on the clock? Was it North's fault
It looked to me like North players were trying to punch the ball out. A few probably took some liberties to get a cheap shot in, and we all know that neither team can let any sort of slight slide, and there always has to be some sort of retaliation.

Both teams always seem to be really good at kicking someone while they’re down, but neither can tolerate it if it’s dished back.

This is what I was referring to. I just turned on the game and there was no commentary, so it was hard to know what was happening. Definitely got heated, more people on the field than the 11 from each team. A couple Central guys were looking to make something out of it, one had his helmet off and had to be escorted to the locker room. At one point, the North guys started pouring back onto the field from the locker room. It was interesting. I’m assuming some met up after the game with those emotions.

Interesting observation. If you watched the game you then had to see #15 from North throwing upper cuts to #4 after being stood up at the end of the game. The TV sound you can clearly hear the whistle blow and #15 continued to throw 2 more upper cuts. Heck #15 should take up boxing. He looked like Ivan Drago. The excuse after was that they were trying to say they are taught to punch the ball out? Less than an minute til the game over and up by 21 points.............and thats the best explanation they can come up with? Not crying sour grapes. Central had there chances to put the game away in the first and second half but did not. However, that incident at the end of the game was one of many throughout the game that were not called. The refs ( whoever appointed that staff ) completely lost control of the game and called nothing against North. Actually, #10 for Central was tossed after this happened.................and he was not even involved. But, conveniently, the refs left the field immediately after the clock hit zero and missed the confrontation after the game. No suspensions occurred as a result. Absolutely unacceptable that players act like that and nothing happens.

Another disappointing and early exit for Central in the playoffs this year :(
Agree, but they improved throughout the year and would likely now destroy Harvest Prep. PN is slightly more talented, so it's not a fluke that they beat Central both times. That said, the Panthers are certainly NOT 21 points better. I hope PN is mentally tough enough to take the region. They are certainly talented enough.

I know we lose a couple players on D line and O line. There is always talk that Rocco is going to move. Receivers will be the same except for Deuce leaving. We lose our top running backs. Linebackers are staying ( not sure that’s a good thing) and our corners I believe are staying as well as safety’s.

Prediction tonight?

I would expect this game to be similar to the Gahanna game for PickN. Berlin is usually very solid tackling, but every once in awhile they make tragic mistakes. I don't know enough about PickNs front 7 to know how they will deal with Berlin's offense, which is not flashy, but is capable of running 7 min off the clock. A friend from Gahanna last week said the Berlin QB looks/plays like Tim Tebow, which stylistically isn't a bad comparison.

When North plays a good defense we've seen all season and at the end of last season, their offense does nothing. Now I'm not too familiar with Olentangy; but I expect North to lose.

Seen both this year; Berlin plays very detailed with crisp, sound defense. I liken them to the ‘04 Buckeyes: staunch D with good special teams, but an offense that isn’t as good coupled with frustrating propensity for penalties.

I think North got lucky on this one.

Really felt like the Gahanna game, North's 1 TD came from a lucky fumble with 15 seconds left.

And the second half North's offense did almost nothing I feel like that long run by the QB to win was the only first down. Defense got like 3 stops on 4th down, and a FG block.

Yes….I think PN had one first down in the 2nd half. I don’t think Berlin punted the entire game. Berlin just couldn't finish once they got inside PN’s 25 yard line. They controlled the game but just couldn't make the key play on offense.

Berlin OC was pretty dreadful in this game. Pound the ball down the field and score 1st drive, throw an INT on a very low % deep ball that fooled no one next drive. Edge players were having success on the quick game in space, but too much focus on running QB in the A gap on key plays, which the whole world knew was coming. It's just stubborn attitude to say, well if we aren't good enough to get 2 yards we aren't good enough to win. Any amount of creativity in some of those key spots likely would have yielded different results.

Both defenses were exceptional, but Berlin moved ball consistently between 20s where I dont think PN even ran 10 plays in the 2nd half. Berlin absolutely should have won this game without that fumble w/ 20 sec left in the half, or the bad INT, they likely would have.

Yes.....seemed somewhat neaderthal thinking on Berlin OC part. On the flip side, PN has so much talent and their offensive coaching staff just doesn't seem to know what to do with it. Can't tell you how many time I've prayed for some simple crossing routs between 8-15 yards downfield. use some simple passes to get the ball to your playmakers in space and let them make plays! They have the offensive talent to play w/anyone in the state w/maybe the exception of Moeller, but the coaching is holding them back........They also got super lucky at the end of the half to get that TD.....Hillerich once again almost came up a play short w/a timeout in his pocket, but he got lucky that Mock got into the end zone as the clock ran down to zero.....His game management skills have always seem to be sorely lacking........

You are a 100 % correct ! The PN OC does not know what he is doing and O- line coach is not any better! They have had a lot of talent on offense over the years and always under perform in this offense. But things will not change because of a winning record (But Only 1 conference championship during the Hillerich time) because they have just way more talent than most the other teams they play. The defense & special teams are winning these past 2 playoff games. How you only score 2 TD's on offense over the last 2 playoff games with a D1 running back, D1 receiver, above average QB and a Kid that runs a 4.22 and does not get the ball ???? When they do throw over the middle, they have had a Very high rate of success (Big yardage or TD) but they may do it once and you won't see it again. I believe I saw the first real screen pass in 6 years early in season and it went for a TD! Have not seen it since. Never seen a reverse in all the years! They are in the Region 3 championship this year but whoever wins Region 3 I believe gets smoker next game!

So does North have a chance this week or their luck runs out? If their offense can only manage field goals or a single touchdown I think they are going home very disappointed
