700 WLW

I loved WLW. I would listen to any show but the bozo.

I remember the stunt when they were swapping content with the lie FM station and I tuned it at 0700 to.hear the charade...

Even Mattt Reese was toleratable on the Saturday show called the Backyard Barbeque...

So many great years burbank show....Earl Pitts....the good Ole days

Then I grew to realize all talk was frying my brain and causing me to age....like don't become your parents commercials....and i felt 20 yrs older than I was

Now I don't listen to any talk.radio other than Eddie Trunk on SXM talking about rock music.

Talk radio accelerated my age....music has made.me younger.
You say it accelerated your age, I say it gives you knowledge. I've always said conservatives listen to talk radio, liberals listen to FM music. They have to because their thoughts don't have any factual basis, just what they "feel".

That would be quite a read ;)

Know quite a few people that have dealt with him in the past.....
They roll their eyes when his name is mentioned.
I feel Lance is one of the best sports talk show hosts at WLW. He's uber prepared, he is patient with callers, allows them to speak their minds. I also feel Lance goes above and beyond with non big time sports news in the area. He'll bring up a local high school/ college kid who's done something exceptional.

It may made me more knowledgeable but also.way too old.

I'd rather feel young and dumb than old and wise.

His knowledge of sports is limited to reading statistics. He's fascinated by obscure statistical combinations.

Not for me.....

Miss the days of a host sitting back and chewing the fat with the callers and/or a single guest for a couple of hours. Not many of those people want to sit back talk about numbers for an hour or two.

I think Lance is weak on football. It's like he has to be dragged into the sport. Maybe that's what the 5-1-3 market wants but I doubt it.

How many times did Wily kill of the bozo over the years?

it was a unique show from 9-12 for Willie
Remember the slumber party girls? We turned that on one night when we were on a double date....the grils were like oh that's gross..but after dinner they flipped thru the channels and asked what station it was on hahaha

With Mike McConnell, Bill Cunningham, and Eddie Fingers all in their late 60’s or early 70’s, what will WLW look like in a few years? Will they go towards syndicated programming or stick with local hosts/shows?

If you care about the guest. I also think the amount of callers has dwindled. Give Lance credit, he's in front of it. He's got regular segments he does, some sponsored. On this date in Reds history. Players birthdays, This summer he's even pulled some old archived broadcasts. I know Chick really struggles on the weekends sometimes with zero callers.

My guess is they'll have to go syndicated. They are not developing any young talk show hosts. Mike's been on since the 80's / early 90's.

Good gosh WLW does overload on the Bengals beginning in July. Since I'm a Reds fan and not a Bengals fan it's kind of amusing to me that so many Bengal fans were done with the Reds in June...let's get to football season. How's that going? Cincinnati is a baseball town and always will be. NFL is America's sport, but in some regions baseball's still king.

They can move on from Willie anytime. I'd put Sloan in the afternoon and put Mike back into the 9-12 slot where he belongs. Willie's act is old and tired.
Willie rarely takes calls, though lately between 2 and 2:30 he has been. He basically has the same show every week with the same guests. David Yost, Rob Sanders, Richard K Jones. He and Seg have toned down the Stooge Report since the Huggins live call incident a few years back. The Stooge use to be entertaining as hell but now its way too PG and watered down. Not to mention it use to be on at 1:36 and 2:36 but now its more like 1:42 to 1:55 for the Stooge, instead of a 20 to 24 minutes segment. Willie is phoning it in

actually if you have noticed.. there are more/longer commercials now on all the shows.... I've heard gary Jeff, Mike Allen, and willie mentioning more and more over the last two months

So what job does Sarah Elyse actually do? I know she's on with Kid Criss in the moring for a bit, but otherwise, what does she do?

I used to listen to Cunningham’s show every day but stopped listening during Covid. You’re right about him phoning it in. When I still listened regularly I noticed he recycled interviews from his Sunday night national show to his shows during the week. I also think that he doesn’t take calls during the final hour of his show because that is all pre-recorded earlier in the day. That allows him to get to the golf course sooner than he otherwise would.

I've noticed with McConnell's show they replay recorded interviews, like the airport guy. WLW has to be raking it cash in. It seems like they play nearly 30 minutes of commercials an hour and many of the segments they do with interviews are sponsored by XYZ company. Unless you need to know as it's happening, it's better to listen to the shows on podcast. You can listen to Lance's 3 hour show in less than two once all the news/ commercials are cut out.

some of Mikes pre-recorded segments are because it's hard to get some of the interviews on that early in the morning. Eddie and Rocky have been doing pre-recorded segments too. sometimes it seems like the pre-recorded start at 5. but definitely the 530-6 when there's no reds game they have a 'interview' that has sound bites etc...

Dont know if I ever told this story on here...

Within the last few years WIlly was talking about a 'nicely handwritten letter' he received from a man named Henry. He talked a little about the letter, etc.

One person came to mind, and I texted his daughter if her dad listened to WLW and she said, 'yeaaa, why....?' Told her, she asked and yep, it was him! I see him from time to time, think he just turned 80, and we always have a good laugh.

but i digress

They definitely replay interviews. Back when I used to listen to WLW more, McConnell's final hour was a repeat of the first hour.
The morning show he does not is more of a typical talk show format like back in the day. He has some of his regular guests, but he'll also take calls and banter with callers.

Speaking of Eddie Fingers. If I’m in the car and WLW is already on the dial I’ll stick with Eddie and the big Orange LB for a bit. It seems to me that Eddie is really showing his age. He struggles to make a point in many discussions and seems to ramble on a lot.
