I feel Lance is one of the best sports talk show hosts at WLW. He's uber prepared, he is patient with callers, allows them to speak their minds. I also feel Lance goes above and beyond with non big time sports news in the area. He'll bring up a local high school/ college kid who's done something exceptional.

he had the biggest crush on a weather girl from fox19, I think, and a bartender at Dickmanns. weird stuff. I remember he had Valerie Abati say to him 'naughty boy go to your rooom'.

Going to be wall to wall Pete on 700 WLW the next few days. A Cincinnati icon with a very complicated life.

Not so much. I listened to Scott this morning and he never even brought it up during the time I was listening . Got to the news and they did run a 30 second bit about how we may finally get to watch Peter get put into HOF.

I've listened most of the morning and I'd say about 75% is Pete.

You probably correct, Willy is certainly covering it. Kind of surprised me, I expected a mention of it and then more coverage of the Iran / Israel war. But I suppose it is more important to cover Peter than a war that might just spread. A wise man once said , "sports is the most important thing in the world ".

You've got valid point there. I think unless the war is right here in our country, most could care less. Those countries have been at war for hundreds of years and it will never end.
Lance will probably have a big show tonight on Pete.

Sad content but alot of great radio on 700 WLW yesterday. Most of the daytime shows focused on Pete Rose, and of course Lance's show was all Pete as well.
How many athletes, 30 years past their playing days can command that much interest? It is incredible how much impact he had on Cincinnati, the Reds and baseball.

Mike finds all kinds of stories out there. So today he was talking about a business owner in Springfield, Ohio (wonder where this is going, right?) that was getting death threats because he's hired some Haitian immigrants to work for his business. Side note they are there LEGALLY. Anyway, the owner was interviewed and said yes, he's had trouble hiring and keeping people for years and with the Hatian's he's hired, they come to work, they do their jobs, they aren't late and are good workers. Darn them for being good employees.

wow, down to 3rd and haven't won a ratings period in at least 4. wonder if it's talk radio format or just stale performances across most of the hosts.

Why has the owner had trouble keeping people? My guess: Pathetic wages.

He also used to routinely DM people out of the blue on Twitter to debate them when he didn’t like a tweet that was sent to him. I think you can’t do that anymore with most people when X changed the default DM settings to non-public. Very odd behavior to hop into people’s DMs when the convo could be continued publicly by just tweeting at the person publicly.

My guess is they'll have to go syndicated. They are not developing any young talk show hosts. Mike's been on since the 80's / early 90's.
AM radio is a dying industry anyway since it’s much more convenient to listen to podcasts from untold numbers of content creators around the country. You get to listen to exactly what you want, when you want, without all the excessive commercial breaks.

I imagine WLW’s listenership is 98% old fossils.

Good gosh WLW does overload on the Bengals beginning in July. Since I'm a Reds fan and not a Bengals fan it's kind of amusing to me that so many Bengal fans were done with the Reds in June...let's get to football season. How's that going? Cincinnati is a baseball town and always will be. NFL is America's sport, but in some regions baseball's still king.
Don’t kid yourself. Football is king in Cincinnati and has been for decades.

Speaking of Eddie Fingers. If I’m in the car and WLW is already on the dial I’ll stick with Eddie and the big Orange LB for a bit. It seems to me that Eddie is really showing his age. He struggles to make a point in many discussions and seems to ramble on a lot.
Eddie on WLW always seemed like an odd fit since he was so associated with the funnier, edgier Dawn Patrol on WEBN back in the day.

Proud to be part of that 2%.

I represent that remark!!!

A topic on Mike's show today, a Washington politician from the Cincy area has had protesters hanging out at his house. He's been in support of Israel and apparently some don't like that.
So at what point do people think this is a good idea? First of all if you ever want to get people to join your cause, protesting at a person's house may be the worst way to do it.

Oh here was my better one from Mike's show today. So can the girls play with the boys? Apparently not in Spain. So a soccer club in Spain has a team made up entirely of transgender men (born female, transitioning to men). My guess is since it's a formal team, that the participants have all played at least some form of organized soccer, if not more.
This particular league has allowed the past two seasons to allow any gender to play. Well apparently that's not good enough either. Also of note, in Spain in 2022, legislation was passed so citizens could change genders without a psychological or medical evaluation.
They played their first game recently, lost 19-0.

You wonder what's wrong in the bad areas of town. Heard a story yesterday about a shooting somewhere in Cincinnati on or near a bus. Over 30 people were on that bus and ALL left the scene before the police arrived?? If you're willing to allow things like that to happen in your neighborhood and not ever try to help, then you've accepted the consequences.

Some more just darn good quips from Mike, and he does his research. Many times things you'll never hear from the typical media today.

So former President Barack Obama recently chided black men for not falling in line and automatically voting for Kamala Harris because he has this notion that Trump is anti-women? So get this, a FORMER President, not just some guy, telling black men to vote for someone because of their gender and color???? This seems like something that would had been said in the 60's??? Yet nothing from the mainstream media or anything negative to Obama??? Nuts...

Another one, just to show you Mike is balanced. So Trump was in Michigan for a rally...Michigan is supposedly a swing state. He said if Harris gets elected, the country will become like Detroit?? And he's IN Michigan saying this?? Talk about deaf??

Finally and most importantly, a recent report from Moneyweek states that today, in 2024, Americans have to work less hours to pay for a weeks worth of groceries since 2019. Yes, all you guys out there that think wages are too low and inflation and prices are too high...it's WRONG. So why would this report show this? The spike in wages. Think about it. In general, wages have gone way up since the pandemic, grocery prices have gone up some, but not at the same rate wages have. Again, Mike researches these things. The typical media will never, ever report these things because it's all about how bad it is out there.

Interesting fact from Mike today, has to do with helmets and motorcycles. Currently 17 states have requirements for helmets for motorcycle riders. A recent study indicates that 20,000 riders have died in crashes since 1970 attributed to not having a helmet on, or around 500 annually.

This has always amazed me because this is one of those "freedoms" that's just never been acted on. Not wearing a helmet is substantially more dangerous than having one on. There are no statistics that back the non helmet group, it's simply for cosmetic purposes only. You can say there is an issue with hearing but no one is going to pick cracking your head open over hearing the wind whip by your head.

Give it to Mike, he calls em as he sees em. A few days ago, a report came out where a former Trump advisor said Trump said he admired some of what Adoph Hitler did. Of course the national media ran with it and made it factual and there has been no validation to it.
Mike even ripped ABC's evening world news saying they spent a segment ripping Trump in such away that it was not fair reporting. Now Mike is not a Trump supporter, he's made that clear on several occasions, but he'll call the media out when they get out of line, which is pretty regular.
It's just a comedy of errors with the media, every couple of days there is a slam piece on Trump and will continue probably through the election.

Well what do you know, less than a week before the election WLW news reports the economy is looking up, jobs are better as is wages. It just amazes me how the national news media slants to one candidate.

Heard that one yesterday. I'm sure the news they used 20 years ago was not nearly so left of center. Won't be many more years and WLW will be a distant memory for most conservatives.

Earlier in the week, Mike reported a story that likely received little attention because it's a hot button topic. This was the fact that the Catholic diocese of Cincinnati was discontinuing it's relationship and support of the Girl Scouts of America. I'm sure it's not difficult to see why, the thoughts and philosophies of the Catholic hardly line up with the Girls Scouts in the area of transgenders.
I say two things, one good for the diocese for stand up for their thoughts. Too many times today, many thoughts are rammed down our throats and for fear of being called racist or mean, we cower. Now the Catholic diocese certainly has it own issues with Priests and sexuality, but that's largely a tiny portion of the overall faith.
To me it's sad because here is just yet another organization, the Girl Scouts who do 98.5% great work and are such a value to girls, who because of taking a hard stance on a situation that frankly affects so few. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
I just hope someday, we'll have more common sense rule.

Radio and TV have such a open book on what they "choose" to report. There are literally dozens of stories they could do daily and they seem to push the ones that align with one particular party. There did used to be an expectation of balance in news.

i presume it was either Matt Reece or my favorite Sandy Collins!!
