As a fellow idiot of working my life away, I wonder if the poor sap realizes what he gave up in trade for that 700k?Mike noted a story this morning where a lineman from the Northwest, Oregon/ Washington area made over $700,000 last year in earnings, largely from overtime. His base wage was around I believe $150,000. He took every overtime ask he got. How does this happen? Shortage of labor and other linemen passing on OT. Incredible and good for him. Wonder if the UAW guys have that kind of work ethic?
If my math is correct. That is 5.4 per day of "free" time. Sleep, eat, chit, shower, shave, laundry, commute to work etc.As a fellow idiot of working my life away, I wonder if the poor sap realizes what he gave up in trade for that 700k?
If he really likes his job, and is that into his work, good for him. But if his base wage was $150,000 for 40 hrs / week , then that is $75 /hr. Overtime would typically be 1.5 x $75 = $112.50 per hour of overtime. So $700,000 - $150,000 = $550,000. $550,000/ $112.50 per hour worked is 4,889 hours of overtime. That works out to be around 130 hrs per week . I've worked 115 before and could not imagine the brain fog he must be in.
Thanks for doing the math, but I don't think it was this way at all. I'll have to go back to the podcast and listen to the details. I think their OT rate is much higher than standard. Looking at it the other way, he may be cutting off years from the end of his worklife where he can retire sooner. He made wages that equal about 4+ years of work in 12 months. And yes, sacrifices have to be made sometimes. As a fellow idiot of working my life away, I wonder if the poor sap realizes what he gave up in trade for that 700k?

Jones will be off the air soon as the Brennaman / Jones show every morning will be over after baseball season, and Furman does a Sunday morning show on Fox Sports radio. There's a guy that fell off the map. He was on WLW all the time years ago, had a restaurant up in Sharonville.Bring bsack Tracy Jones and Andy Furman
that one cracks me up because they say something stupid like '... your teeth look good even while you're sleeping..'Anyone else notice the dental commercial that runs in the morning, and asks if "you are embarrassed, because you haven't been in a while"?
It sounds like we all should be embarrassed every now and then to keep from getting embarrassed. I know that was not the intended meaning of the commercial.
Easy solution right...just hire people to replace them and work for less money. Except they can't hire enough people as it is now.Forgot to share this one, but Mike was talking about the UAW strike, and the absurdity of it all. To compare he used the comparison of the Reds top wage earner, Joey Votto, vs. an usher at GABP. Because the Reds make so much money, the ushers should strike to get more. Simply put, ushers are replaceable. Actually very replaceable. Votto has a specific skill set that very few people have an that commands a large wage. Now also understand that the UAW workers make a really good wage, better than most in their industry and have a good deal currently on the table. You just wonder when labor unions will just dry up and go away.
I like the Chickster, he has a tough job. I think the days of the radio call ins are nearly over, and he gets the crappy time slots. I'll say this, it's easy to get on his show and he actually takes calls. I tried to call into sports talk with Lance for Wednesday night's show, was on hold for 90 minutes, he took a grand total of 2 calls. This was the day the Reds lost the day game to the Twins. The Chickster an outstanding person but he has become very hard to listen to on Reds and Bengals Postgame last yr or so.
What did you have to say that was so important that it was worth wasting 90 minutes of your evening?I like the Chickster, he has a tough job. I don't normally stay on that long, just depends on what's going on. I was actually mowing my yard, called when I started, and was done and Lance was going to talk Bengals so I gave up.What did you have to say that was so important that it was worth wasting 90 minutes of your evening?
Nobody calls and he just tells us repeatedly how AWESOME everything is Win or Lose! He got his coffe, his computer and all he needs is you (to call in) and it’s always the same 3-5 dweebs Calling in.I like the Chickster, he has a tough job. Yes, shutdowns have happened.I think the news people think we're imbeciles.
So the last few days, the news cycles have talked about a "government" shutdown. If the government shuts down many workers won't get paid, including TSA and the airports will struggle, etc.
This seems like it's only been a think the last few years, once or twice a year, it's brought up that the government has to approve a bill or they'll shutdown. Has that ever happened? Do they really think we think there's going to be a shutdown??
One congressman even had a sound bite on saying - "this is a great day for the American people". Really? They must think we have zero intelligence and our lives revolve around government and the media.
Did you think one would happen this time?Yes, shutdowns have happened.

I have no idea of this story or anyone involved in it.Is there more to this story than this, it seems very odd to get to this point for two people who seemingly have fairly responsible lives.
No doubt about that, but generally people who are on school boards or other public groups are ones who generally "get along" with others. Now obviously other run of the mill people, yes, you open it up to anything. But school board members? Stalking and harassing another board member? And imagine if the tables were turned and it was the guy stalking the female board member? This would be national news and be getting alot more attention.I have no idea of this story or anyone involved in it.
I would venture to guess, however, that among the general American populace, there are plenty of people — many more than you think — who appear to the outside world to have a boring, run-of-the-mill, moderately successful life, when pulling back the curtain would reveal much choppier waters.
Darbi Boddy doesn't exactly "get along" with anyone at Lakota. She's also been trespassed from the school district she represents and been censured by the school board. Has made false accusations about the previous Superintendent which was the deciding factor in him leaving the district.A news story has been on WLW the last few days that seems a little odd. There is a member of the Lakota school board who has a TRO against another board member. Oddly, a male board member has the TRO on a female for stalking and harassing him. Is there more to this story than this, it seems very odd to get to this point for two people who seemingly have fairly responsible lives.
