2021 UWW Senior World Championship Schedule

13-2 J'den. First time I've seen him taken down in a while. But looked more offensive than in the past IMO

John Michael aka Yianni goes down 5-1 to Armenia.... and it really wasn't that close

Through Session I Day 2

USA 100

Iran 86

Russia 68
USA 100 - 3 finals, 3 semis, 1 3/5, 1 eliminated*
IRI 86 - 2 finals, 4 semi, 1 8th, 1 DNP**
RWF 68 - 1 finals, 2 semi, 2 3rd/5th, 1 7th, 2 alive***

Still way too early to declare a victory, but maybe by the end of the day things will clarify.

*eliminated could still place top 10 and earn team pts.
**DNP does not earn any team pts.
***alive could still be brought back in repechage and place as high as 3rd.

Yianni was a disappointment, but everyone else has wrestled great. Gilman is on a mission. Fix has been fantastic. Dake is trying to make amends for his one bad match at OLY. JB is showing that the old man isn't finished yet, even tho he's at a new weight. Magic Man is pure magic. Cox has shown a new level of offense. And Gwiz has done everything he could have hoped to accomplish. Can't wait for the next session - 10:45-11:45 am Semifinals 57, 65, 79 & 92kg MFS. Putting 3 more in the finals might seal the deal. Cox goes H2H w/ IRI in his match. IRI has all 4 of their day 2 guys in the semis.

From someone on Twitter..."Tevanyan has only lost to Rashidov at Olympics and Otoguro at 2019 worlds , beat Haji aliyev 9-0 at Euros '21 , and Muskuzev 9-1 convincingly to win last yrs World cup". Yianni lost to a very good wrestler who had a bad match in the quarters. Tevanyan is someone who will challenge for world medals this quad. It's a rough loss, but not a bad loss.

Thomas Gilman dominates his semis match and wins 15-5. He'll be in the finals against Sarlak of Iran, a U23 bronze in 2019. Gilman has to be the favorite, he's looked excellent this tournament (and this year) and looks to put a cap on an all-time run.

Yazdani Cherati wins at 65kg, pulling Sebastian Rivera back into repechage. He'll face Austria in the first round of repechage tomorrow morning

JB shows the youngster how it's done w/ 10-1 victory and a berth in the finals at 79kg.
Will face Iran, who have been wrestling out of their minds today. Healthy JB is the favorite, he looked a little banged up that first period against Japan

Thanks yank. The more ya know... he did look quite impressive and had Yianni figured out and frustrated. He doesn't look very old, I'm sure they'll see each other again in next few years

So Cox loses to IRI and USA falls behind in the team race.

IRI 126
USA 120
RWF 88

Major bummer. o_O
