Is 14 too many?
most schools can’t fill 14.
Too many forfeits.

Lets not get into this one... I think everyone knows I am not a fan of diminishing the number of weights. The genetically predisposed (small) athlete is already at a disadvantage when most sports are geared towards 7' tall B Ball players and 250# Linebackers..... Can't the little guy get a break? If you can't tell from my picture my son is 4" taller than me.... ?Ten weight classes and one division...
Is this the, 'less is more argument?'
Nah, there will always be 98lb weaklings who played JH football and want another outlet in HS. I was one.If anything maybe time to move weights up a bit. If kids are getting bigger. When I was in school it was 103. Now 106. Maybe it needs to be 110 and so on. But I really don't care.
VB3 is young. I remember there being a 98 pound class. Matt Cornell was ours at North Olmsted back in the 80s. He was the nicest kid, but that weight management program sucked.Nah, there will always be 98lb weaklings who played JH football and want another outlet in HS. I was one.
I LIKE IT.Where are the options for more?
I would like to see 15 or 17... odd number to break ties.
Cutting starting opportunities is not a good way to grow the sport.
105, 112, 119, 125, 131, 137, 143, 149, 155, 164, 174, 184, 195, 220, 285
or
100, 107, 113, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 151, 157, 165, 175, 185, 195, 220, 285

Because actually coaching, building and developing the sport at places it’s not established and/or with first year kids is hard work. It’s more than possible to actually be successful but you have to be mentally flexible and hustle. You have to be willingly build kids mental toughness.I'll never understand the default position of "fixing" the sport by taking away opportunities. This is the type of thinking that almost got Wrestling canceled from the Olympics and college wrestling programs cut every year. There is a solution to every problem and for most there are many. Why not begin the discussion from the mindset of enhancing opportunities rather than taking them away?
I would like to see a increase at HWT to 300.

it’s funny you say that. I don’t think it’ll help unfortunately. A lot of coaches take an idiotic pride in having 3-4 tuff guys. Cause the “other kids is too soft so I don’t waste my time”.This is an extremely biased and bad poll. Why would we want to limit weight classes? If you’re worried about there being too many forfeits we should be rewarding programs who do the work to fill the weight classes.
One simple solution I have heard- make forfeits worth 7 points instead of 6. Put it on the coaches to recruit more to make their team competitive.
Bring back the 98lb class! #littleguysmatterLets not get into this one... I think everyone knows I am not a fan of diminishing the number of weights. Yep and his name is Loui Hayes.Nah, there will always be 98lb weaklings who played JH football and want another outlet in HS. I was one.
Maybe we should start with a vision of what a wrestling team should look like and then build teams up to fit that vision. Instead were always trying to change the vision. A low but attainable vision would be filling all 14 weight classes for duals. It means you might have to get guys that are new to wrestling and build them up. You might have to actually coach and care about kids not be because they win for you but because it's your vision of what's right. It's very rewarding so get out there and do it.
But that’s so much work for some people. After all. “Hard work” means running lots of sprints and yelling a bunch and martyring yourself. Hard work can’t be marketing your program, recruiting, fundraisingdoing your hw on improving things outside a half Nelson technique, being organized, building relationships with other coaches and the AD. That wouldn’t fit the wannabe tuff guy machoness.Maybe we should start with a vision of what a wrestling team should look like and then build teams up to fit that vision. I completely agree. I’ve mentioned it several times but wrestling needs to stop it’s trend of coaches becoming lazy and not entitledI agree but if we allow that kind of coaching to continue we won’t have wrestling in the next generation. We have to grow the sport and that mentality can’t be tolerated.
“If we allow that type of coaching to continue”....... the only coaching we really have a say in is clubs. Done by our paying for and participating in. As far as High School well that is your Athletic Director, Superintendent, and Board of Education. For the most part the latter is just looking for a reliable babysitter.
People are people and every example on personality as far as a coach. If a club has a quality coach then he will be successful. It’s the ole capitalism in an open free market result. As far as a school system. Then it’s more of the socialist product. They usually want one of their own, school teacher. I don’t know if it’s the union or they feel more control from a liability point. But if your product is good you will get the kids in your room. But if your product is bad well it is still up to the administration. The protective bubble! This is why I’m for transfers with out penalties.I personally am a hs coach, I get what you’re saying but I’d argue the average person can put much more influence on a school coach than on a club coach.
