Region 28 Playoffs

i
16 Lewisburg Tri-Country North (4-6) at 1 Maria Stein Marion Local (10-0)
15 Lockland (4-5) at 2 Ansonia (10-0)
14 St. Henry (3-7) at 3 DeGraff Riverside (9-1)
13 New Bremen (4-6)
at 4 Cincinnati College Prep (7-2)
12 Bradford (4-4) at 5 Minster (8-2)
11 Fort Loramie (5-5)
at 6 South Charleston Southeastern (7-3)
10 Mechanicsburg (6-4) at 7 St. Bernard-Elmwood Place (7-2)
9 Sidney Lehman Catholic (7-3) at 8 Cedarville (7-3)
agree with these picks

1. Riverside just played MU and they played Ansonia close early in the season. I think you guys just hear how talented the MAC is (and rightfully so, it’s the most dominant conference in HS) but let’s not act like the Pirates weren’t tested either. The same guys made the mistake last year picking Ansonia to lose to NB by 40-50.

2. NB will clearly shred CCP to pieces

3. Loramie and Mechanicsburg are also playing teams that played club schools and schools with nobody attending. Which is the exact reason OHSAA needs to change the playoff formatting.
I can clarify. Being a 9-1 team, and seeded #3, Riverside was given no favors by drawing St. Henry. At this point, it's been made clear year after year how the MAC prepares teams for the playoffs. Riverside can win that game, but it's definitely not an easy opponent either. St. Henry sits at 3-7, but beat St. Mary's who went 6-4 playing in the WBL and beat New Bremen as well. Not your typical resume of a 3 win team.

Not bashing the MAC at all but saying St. Henry is a buzzsaw and will easily win this game was just laughable. St. Mary’s is a decent win nothing spectacular as is New Bremen in a down year. Getting smacked around and losing by 2 scores to Parkway and a near loss to Fort Recovery shouldn’t be excused either.

I did mock seedings during the summer and had Tri-C as a 16 facing Marion Local in round one.
TCN runs it pretty well but losing their QB makes it that much worse. Obviously Marion would still be able to make the score but at least they’d have a touch of optimism going in.

T

The only real teams they’ve played they lost to. West Liberty Salem and West Jefferson. Their other loss in Greenview is meh. Sneaking past Lehman just doesn’t impress me honestly.
i never said Southeastern would win but they’ve given the good teams they’ve played fits. i have Loramie by 2 scores.

Absolutely no one in Region 28 should have a touch of optimism. Anyone who thinks anyone in D7 can compete with Marion is not very bright. Marion will have a 2 score win against another MAC school and maybe a 14-24 point win in the semis and nothing else will be within 30.

I never once said TCN could compete with Marion obviously they can’t but as I stated I’m sure they’d feel much better if they had their starting QB…

saying that NOBODY can compete with Marion is a joke. Ansonia is the exact team equipped to hang with Marion. Not saying they’d win but it wouldn’t be 30+ as you state.

Not so fast, Flyers rarely go through the play offs without a close game. Bad weather is a good equalizer, 2002 very few people thought Hardin Northern would give the Flyers a game, roster less than 35 players, mostly a run only team (HN) guess who won. In 2010 the Flyers def. Minster 41 - 6 lost to the Cats 30 - 26 in the play offs this year the score was 42 - 7 reg. season. Deja vu? Flyers do not have a dominant defense like the past 2 years, in 21 when ML got Buschur and Hess back for the playoffs that D was almost as good as 22. Offensively ML does not have a power running game less than 80 yds. rushing vs Coldwater, bad weather which would negate Marion Local's passing game and the Flyers could lose.

It would be 30+

Marion, Ansonia, Minster should win in blowouts.
New Bremen and Mechanicsburg should win comfortably, but not in a "blowout."

St. Henry might give Riverside a game, but Riverside wins. St Henry gets too much credit just because they are in the MAC. Yes - Many MAC teams are crazy good like Marion, Coldwater, Versailles, and Minster - the rest? Just because they are in the MAC doesn't mean they should be put on a pedestal. Maybe they'll surprise me, but I'm just not buying St. Henry as being a huge threat here.

Loramie - Southeastern and Lehman - Cedarville should be your best games. Could be a coin flip in either!

The great thing is we get to see who’s right, I will certainly admit if I’m wrong. I do know I’ve seen Wapak play several times and they are a really good team and I doubt many D7 teams could hang with them, much less beat them- just my opinion. Weather certainly can make a difference, Ansonia used the perfect weather conditions, perfect game plan and perfect execution to almost beat Bremen last year, could it happen again? Certainly, once again my opinion is it won’t. For some odd reason people are down playing how good this Marion team is, maybe it’s because they don’t have any true stars? But, they still have Tim Goodwin and that makes a big difference.

Cedarville Running Back Caleb Coffey is out for the season I heard, had over 1000 yards rushing and also heard their TE/LB is out for the season but not 100% certain.

Nobody said this Marion teams not good. Stop saying they did, they said that Marion beating everyone by 30+ is just unrealistic

Just like NB was going to beat Ansonia by 50+. The Tigers run it probably run it the best out of anyone in the region. I promise they wouldn’t lose by 30+
ML plays their best football in the playoffs. There have been multiple times were they have beaten even the best MAC teams by 30+ in the playoffs. ie. 2017 Coldwater and 2022 Versailles. It's nothing against Ansonia...

Not disagreeing with you but their average margin of victory as of the beginning of week 10 was 33.7 points. It'll slim up a little because they only beat coldwater by 20 but once again it's all about match ups. If you're a run only team and you don't have a competent running QB to go with your RB then you're going to have a tough time scoring any points. Stirred is very much downplaying the defense just because it is Junior laden and it's his thing. It may not be as dominant as last year's defense but that was Marion's most dominant to date. This year's is still giving up the fewest points and yardage of any MAC team by a fairly healthy margin. Also he's saying Marion has no run game because Coldwater of all teams held Marion to 80 yards rushing. This even though Marion had the best running game in the Mac over the whole season. He also failed to mention that Coldwater sold out to stop the run so much that Knouff had roughly 250 yards passing on only 13 attempts. Goodwin is a master tactician. He and his assistants see what isn't working right away and adjust on the fly. I would say Marion has the deepest playbook of any team D4 and down and they run it all well. What Marion lacks in overall talent they make up for it in the coaching department.

I'm not sure who said they were a "buzzsaw" or that they would "easily" win this game. I know I didn't.

My Predictions for the Region:

#16 Lewisburg Tri-Country North (4-6) at #1 Maria Stein Marion Local (10-0)
#15 Lockland (4-5) at #2 Ansonia (10-0)
#14 St. Henry (3-7)
at #3 DeGraff Riverside (9-1)
#13 New Bremen (4-6) at #4 Cincinnati College Prep (7-2)
#12 Bradford (4-4) at #5 Minster (8-2)
#11 Fort Loramie (5-5)
at #6 South Charleston Southeastern (7-3)
#10 Mechanicsburg (6-4) at #7 St. Bernard-Elmwood Place (7-2)
#9 Sidney Lehman Catholic (7-3) at #8 Cedarville (7-3)

To be honest, I think this is one of the more interesting regions in SW Ohio. Several good games in Round 1, plenty of potential seed upsets. I think Marion Local is the prohibitive favorite, but the team that faces them for the Regional Final is wide open.

I'm not sure who said they were a "buzzsaw" or that they would "easily" win this game. I know I didn't.
Bless Em All did on post #20. We are most certainly not a buzzsaw. I also know nothing about DeGraff Riverside, so who the hell knows.

Since 2017 Ansonia has made the playoffs 5 times. The losses they sustained in the playoffs were by an average of 24.5 points, so I think people saying they will lose to Marion by 30 plus is not bashing Ansonia it’s saying how good Marion is.

Wrong I posted the Flyers do not have a power running game not that they have no running game. Coldwater did not sell out to stop the Flyers running attack, the Cavs blew a coverage on one TD. but the Cavs did not have 8 men at the LOS most of the game. and Marion Local got most of their rushing yardage vs lesser teams. The Flyers this season vs Wapak, Versailles, and Coldwater struggled to convert short yardage situations and you don't think teams tried to stop Marion Locals running game in the past esp. last year yet the Flyers were still able to convert. This is a not a power I football team and is not particular stout vs the run again, Marion Local only played 2 run 1st teams Wapak and V and were very fortunate to win both games the Flyers did stop CW's running attack fairly well. The MAC did not even have a 1000 yd rusher this year, that says a lot right there. Marion Local will be the favorite to win state but the Flyers will have at least one close football game. This ML team reminds me a lot of the 2018 team.

Okay stand corrected, they only have 1 power back and their personel is not conductive to a power I team so you are correct on the power run game. As for Coldwater, sure they did sell out to sell the run, that's why the play action passing worked to a perfection. Just like when the bengals play the browns when Chubb is in the backfield: run, run, run, catch the defense sleeping. Also a win is a win, doesn't matter if they're fortunate to win or not, they did enough to win the game. Replacing almost your entire D and asking them to completely stop their running game against experienced Wapak team in week 1 is unrealistic. As for a 1000 yard back, i dont think that tells you anything IMO. There's no need for a 1000 yard back, I don't even know if Marion has had one of those since 2014. They use the whole RB and QB room to get yardage. Also I wouldn't be shocked if they have a close game, I'm just not so sure in DVII. The last DVII team to give Marion fits in a flyer win was Loramie in 2019 I'm pretty sure. Could Ansonia be that team? Yes but I'm not convinced yet. But hey that's why we have this forum, for good spirited debate. Need more of that these days.

Ansonia football has changed a lot, I guess the MAC just has blinded you… obviously Marion will run the table but again I can promise you, they won’t beat Ansonia by 30+

I remember being at that game in 2019 FL celebrated a little too early
