2025 WOAC Season

With these divisions this is just 1 game for the division championship and 4 running clocks............
We can name them the SWBL division as PS and MU will run the "south" and we can have the Darke County League as the TV vs Ansonia game will be it. Now the 4 bottom feeders of each division will have a great battle for 3-6.
I mean let’s be honest football is a 3 team race right now. I don’t think I’m for expanding yet either considering as a league we are just heading into our 5th year and things have worked so far. It’s just not the right time in my opinion. I do hate that Milton is stuck looking for a league though I don’t feel so bad for Covington.

When is it the right time? I hear that’s but the only real good reason fire not expanding is competition not being equal and MU has been mediocre in the past two years. Football-wise, I think we compete with the top 3 in the WOAC. Anytime you don’t want something proposed, you need to state reasons against it. I don’t see increased gates, better competition and local schools being a negative.

Personally I just feel like the league has been doing good not sure why it needs to change, I do hate that the TRC didn’t work for those schools I think the SWBL is the best fit for Milton maybe Miami East could go with them.

I agree. League has been pretty solid. Top 3 teams are capable of pretty deep playoff runs. The league has some pretty good small town rivalries. The 4 Preble County schools and Dixie are finally all together. I’ve been impressed with the competitiveness on the top end, which should only make the bottom end better with time. No reason to add more teams to an already large league, and football shouldn’t be the driver in expansion. Both Milton and Covington to look elsewhere. I would say that the SWBL won’t be looking to take Milton back, either.

I think adding MU and Covington makes sense. I like the big school/small school division format with cross over games. The bigger schools have one more larger school to prep for the playoffs. Also they optionally can do the crossover games or maybe go outside the conference for more competive games. Currently playing against some of the smaller schools does nothing to prepare a team to compete in the post season.

The smaller schools like MV and Bradford that currently struggle have another team closer to them in size to compete against.

The "dominance" isn't necessarily big school vs. small school though.

Arcanum is the 2nd biggest school, but outside of this past season hasn't performed very well. Ansonia, TV, and PS have been some combo of 1-2-3 every year of the WOAC. Ansonia is one of the smaller teams in the league (bigger than MV and Bradford) and Tri-Village is just a pinch bigger than them.

If you really wanted to get the top teams better prepped for the playoffs, you do the following
1. Give them a 2nd OOC game
2. (IF MU and Covington would join) you put Ansonia, MU, TV, and PS in the same division with maybe Arcanum and and South (or NT), so they just beat the hell out of each other and don't get weeks off like when they play MV, Bradford, and Dixie.

2 of the 5
Milton beat Covington 29-6. The Buccs were much better this year. I think they turn a corner in’25.
I’m kind of shocked at the negativity from the WOAC posters about the additions.
Preble Shawnee, Ansonia, TV and maybe National Trail would be open to playing Milton. We are a small school from a farming community. Much like the schools and towns in the WOAC.

The teams that already aren't competitive in the WOAC don't want to add better teams to the league. It's just another blowout loss for them. Adding Milton/Covington doesn't help Dixie, MV, Bradford, TVS, NT, TCN (at least in football). If you split the league now you are potentially taking away a game those schools can be competitive in for a game against Milton/Covington.

Totally agree, Covington should of stayed with them from the jump but didnt take a good look at their own hallways before making the decision that they were better than the WOAC. Milton was seeing the writing on the wall of the Big/South SWBL. I get their jump really, this isnt their fault but its not the WOACs problem either.
MU panicked and left the league early. MU should never have lowered it's standard to the TRC. Major hit to the program all around.

They should be begging the Small side to let them back in. I'm hopeful they make it happen.

I completely disagree.
The teams that aren't competitive now could be replacing PS, TV, and/or Ansonia with Covington and another OOC game. Those schools are the ones who should want expansion the most! Right now they they 3 games they are getting blown out in every year, they can reduce those!

Im sure this has been posted before, but I am trying to wrap my head around folks up there talking about coming back to the WOAC/SWBL. So, Bethel left for the CBC, are other chips falling? Or are people in panic mode? Seems to me like one team shouldn't make or break a league.
I'd say it's more around the fact that other chips could be falling. Miami East and Riverside have made the final 3 for filling the open spot in the OHC. Potentially leaving the conference with 6 schools and a decent size disparity for a school like Northridge and some other schools in the conference. I don't blame schools for being pro-active for a better fit.

I'm not sure panic is right. They definitely made a hard decision to leave stability for county schools. Having a league with 5 Miami County schools was really a great selling point.

MU is trying to get back into the SWBL now. Hindsight says they never should have left, that's hard to argue with. But I get why they did.

Bellbrook should be trying to get in the MVL

No thanks, stick with the SWBL as long as possible.

Why would Bellbrook go to the MVL they’ve been in SWBL for a long time and play on the big side of the SWBL?

Better competition. Tipp, Troy, Butler, Xenia…improvement over Edgewood, Ross, Talawanda and Franklin. In my opinion.
Let’s say the WOAC decided to say no, Milton has three options left; stay in the TRC, get an invite from the CBC, go back go the SWBL, if accepted. Going back to the SWBL would solve some issues with that league and Bellbrook leaving would open a spot for Valley View and one other to move to the big side. I’d take that spot if I were MU. Just opinion, again. Brookville would move to that side tomorrow.

Bellbrook is bigger than all of the old SWBL schools. They fit size-wise with Franklin, Monroe, and all of the southern schools the league keeps adding. But Bellbrook in a league with Tipp, Butler, Xenia? sounds perfect!
The days of BB playing most of the smaller schools (in all sports, not just football) should be over.
I'm not trying to kick out Bellbrook, as much as I'd love to see them against the MVL schools.

It’s not really negativity it’s just the WOAC has 12 teams already 10 football schools and it’s a league that’s just heading into its 5th season why make changes so soon.

The MU is trying to get back into the SWBL now comment is a reason all WOAC schools should be a no Milton doesn’t want to be our league they just don’t want to be in there league anymore.

Oakwood needs to go to big side. But they cry because " no growth".

If I remember right Eaton and Oakwood are both bigger than VV, so they would go to the big side before VV. VV could complete in football in the big side but not in any other sport. I have a hard time believing any league will be shuffling things around to add MU. I like Milton and would take them over DC but I don't see the SWBL telling DC to leave or risk upsetting a current small school by trying to place them in the big side.

You are correct. Oakwood and Eaton are both larger than VV. By total enrollment, Brookville is larger than VV. VV just has a disproportionate amount of boys compared to girls.

Obviously you’re not a person that likes Milton. It was only after Shawnee and Dixie left the league that Milton and Northridge decided to look. We do desire to be on the WOAC, but will take the SWBL. It is where most of our history lays. The WOAC has very good schools and that is something Milton desires. Our boys basketball plays several WOAC schools annually. Football has played Nat trail in the past. We just happened to have a really strong class coming through those two years. But Nt was competitive.

Has zero to do with not liking Milton has everything to do with liking the league as it is right now. As a south school I’m not for two more north teams, if we add it needs to be one North team and one South team.
